Chapter 1389: Final Farewell

"Really? That's great!" Nangong Wan exclaimed in an ecstatic manner, then began looking around as if she were searching for something.

Han Li knew what she was looking for, and he sighed in a forlorn manner, "He was assimilated by the Heavenly Dao from excessive usage of reincarnation law powers during the battle."

Nangong Wan shuddered slightly upon hearing this, and a film of tears surfaced over her eyes.

She pressed a finger against her own glabella, then moved her fingertip away to draw out a translucent figure.

It was the final remnant of Gan Rushuang's soul, and it was extremely transparent and feeble, resembling a ghostly flame that could be extinguished at any moment.

Right at this moment, another soul remnant suddenly flew out of a broken object that was hovering nearby.

Han Li was surprised to discover that a corner of the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate had been preserved, and it had been holding a remnant of the Reincarnation Palace Master's soul this entire time.

The soul remnant was just as frail as Gan Rushuang's, and it immediately flew over to join her.

The two of them embraced, then turned to look back at Nangong Wan and Han Li with warm smiles on their faces.

The faint voice of the Reincarnation Palace Master rang out in Han Li's mind: "I have no regrets. Look after Jiuzhen for me..."

Before he had a chance to reply, the two soul remnants had already faded away.

"I will," Han Li answered silently in his heart.

"Is this really a good ending for them?" Nangong Wan asked with a look of sorrow in her eyes as she rested her head on Han Li's shoulder, and Han Li didn't know how to respond.

Right at this moment, his brows suddenly furrowed slightly as he turned to the Devilish Monarch and asked, "Do we really have to do this right now, Fellow Daoist Shi? We've just fought alongside one another as comrades, can we not appreciate this second chance at life that we've been given?"

Nangong Wan hurriedly also turned her gaze to the Devilish Monarch, upon which she discovered that he had already arrived beside the Heaven Controlling Vial and was holding it in his grasp.

"You seem to have misunderstood something, Fellow Daoist Han. I didn't work with you and the Reincarnation Palace Master because I was opposed to his actions. On the contrary, I am very much in approval of his plan, it's just a pity that I didn't think of it first," the Devilish Monarch said, having also already reverted back to his human form.

"You'll have to wait for me for a bit longer," Han Li sighed as he turned to Nangong Wan.

"Alright, be careful," Nangong Wan replied after a brief hesitation.

"I won't be too long," Han Li said as he swept a sleeve through the air to conjure up a door of silver light, sending Nangong Wan back into the Flower Branch domain.

"All of us endure so much hardship and so many tribulations in order to attain true freedom, yet the Heavenly Dao constantly looms over our head, and it's even claimed your left arm. Have you never thought about rebelling against the heavens and transcending beyond it?" the Devilish Monarch asked as he pointed a finger up at the sky.

"Cultivators of our caliber can do anything that we please, as long as we comply with the restrictions of the Heavenly Dao. If everyone strives for power at the expense of the Heavenly Dao, then the entire world would be plunged into chaos. There would be no beauty left in such a world, and what a depressing world that would be," Han Li countered.

"I didn't think someone that has reached your heights would have such a soft and weak heart," the Devilish Monarch sneered.

"Is there no way to resolve this peacefully?" Han Li asked with a smile.

"I'm afraid not. Right now, you are as vulnerable as you'll ever be. If I don't kill you now, I will constantly be burdened with thoughts of what could've been," the Devilish Monarch replied.

As soon as his voice trailed off, he took a backward step, vanishing from the spot amid a burst of spatial fluctuations.

Han Li was already prepared for this, and a burst of time law power fluctuations erupted out of his body, stopping the flow of time within a radius of thousands of kilometers.

Immediately thereafter, he spotted a tiny rift that had appeared in the nearby space, and he lashed out without any hesitation, piercing his sword toward it to send a bolt of golden lightning flying into the rift.

Immediately thereafter, the flow of time resumed as normal, and a resounding boom rang out from within the spatial rift as the surrounding space exploded violently.

Before Han Li had a chance to react, a burst of silver light abruptly descended upon him from above, completely immobilizing him within layers of tremendous spatial law powers.

"And then there was one," the Devilish Monarch chuckled as he made a grab for Han Li's head.

The final attack that Han Li had unleashed to kill Gu Huojin had almost completely exhausted all of his law powers and immortal spiritual power, leaving him powerless to defend himself.

In this dire situation, a massive, golden beetle suddenly appeared before him amid a flash of golden light before crashing headfirst into the Devilish Monarch.

A dull thump rang out as the Devilish Monarch was sent flying back through the air, following which Jin Tong devoured the layers of restrictive spatial law powers around Han Li to free him.

A stunned look appeared on the Devilish Monarch's face as he steadied himself.

He had always known that Han Li had a Gold Devouring Immortal companion, but he hadn't anticipated that it had already become a Dao Ancestor. For whatever reason, this Gold Devouring Immortal hadn't made an appearance at all throughout the entire battle against Gu Huojin, nor had the Reincarnation Palace Master told him about it.

The Devilish Monarch wasn't carrying any severe injuries, but he was also extremely depleted in the wake of the battle against Gu Huojin. In his current state, he was far from optimistic about his chances of securing victory against both Han Li and Jin Tong, but at this point, he had already made an enemy out of Han Li, so if he were to allow Han Li to get away and recover his strength, then he would be in an even more dire situation.

As he scrambled for a way out of this predicament, he unconsciously took a glance at the Heaven Controlling Vial in his hand.

Right as he did so, countless rays of silver light began flowing out of the vial's opening before vanishing into the palm of his hand.

His eyes instantly widened with elation and incredulity as he could feel bursts of tremendous spatial law powers flowing into his body, replenishing his depleted dantian.

"Even the heavens are on my side!" he chortled with glee.

Han Li wasn't surprised nor concerned in the slightest to see this, and at the moment, he was making a rapid string of hand seals with his hand concealed up his sleeve.

Even though he wasn't able to refine the Heaven Controlling Vial earlier, he had established a strong connection with it, allowing him to make use of it even from a distance.

Unbeknownst to the Devilish Monarch, Han Li was currently using the vial to force feed him with spatial law powers, and it didn't take long before he realized Han Li's nefarious plan.

There were wisps of chaotic law powers intermingled in the spatial law powers flowing into his body, and by the time he realized this, it was already too late.

"Han Li, you..."

Those were his final words as his body began to bulge unevenly before being torn to shreds by bursts of chaotic light.

A miniature chariot formed by silver light emerged from the pieces of his body, seated atop which was a silver soul, but before it could flee the scene, it was stopped cold in its tracks by a burst of time law power fluctuations that had surged out of Han Li's body.

"I'm afraid I can't let you get away. This will be our final farewell," Han Li sighed as he strode over to the silver chariot, then erased it from existence alongside the Devilish Monarch's soul with a gentle sweep of his sleeve.

A look of mixed emotions appeared on his face as he surveyed his surroundings, but he quickly composed himself and drew the Heaven Controlling Vial back into his grasp, feeling a sense of comfort and security as he gently stroked the familiar patterns on its surface.

Wisps of time law powers began to flow into his body from the vial, nourishing all of his immortal acupoints and eradicating his fatigue.

He could sense that the chaotic law powers in the surrounding space were gradually receding, while the order was being restored to the Heavenly Dao, and everything was slowly returning to the way that it had once been.

However, the gargantuan spatial rift that had been torn open by his almighty sword displayed no sign of closing.

It seemed to be untouched by the powers of time, space, or reincarnation, and it was most likely going to serve as an eternal reminder of the calamity that had taken place here.

The entire Middle Earth Immortal Region had already been completely destroyed, so there was no way to restore it to its original state, but the immortal region had once been very abundant in the world's origin qi, and that would be replenished once the Heavenly Dao returned to normal.

In another million years or so, all of the scattered particles in the immortal region would most likely reconvene to form a small continent.

All of the other realms and immortal regions impacted by this calamitous disaster were also on the road to recovery.
