After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1294: Alterrans Fighting (Part 2)
After a few breaches were created by the invaders, a few hundred more entered. However, a good portion of them were detained within the wide easements, unable to step deeper into the territory.
This was accomplished using various strategies. Ignoring the areas that were pretty much impenetrable like the Golds' areas, the rest made use of intelligent formations, maximization of equipment, and so on.
A great majority of the fighting population was limited to the walls. After all, while the interior breaches were troublesome, winning the war was to keep the enemies out in the first place. It was also making sure the invaders were kept as near to the walls as possible.
Other than those, there was also the fact that a massive ball of black-and-white careened through the wide easement like a random pinball rolling around.
"PANDA AHOY!" Mao yelled and their allies knew what to watch out for. The enemies were not so lucky.
Pak!
A group of random enemies was thrown to the side.
Bang!
Another pair was pushed straight to a Alterran formation.
Smack!
And some—particularly those who were pushed down by Alterrans— were directly rolled over, and they could only gasp when an unexpected weight pressed over their bodies.
Although the ball—with its low level—could not really take down majority of the enemies he bumped into, the distraction and imbalance it created were helpful enough.
He continued to roll and roll and—if there was nothing to stop him—he could go around the entire territory. frёewebnoѵēl.com
The easements spanned the entire length of the walls, creating a clear area for the large ball to roll without having to turn back, and therefore would be difficult for the enemy to retaliate and prepare for.
Sadly, the ball was a living being in the end, and it did get dizzy. At some point, it just stopped, flopping to the side.
The invaders saw the strange animal like this. They didn't know what it was, but since it was vulnerable, they immediately went to attack it.
Unfortunately for them, trying to attack the ball was equivalent to a death wish—as if they hadn't asked for enough death by entering Alterra in the first place.
The retaliatory attack was brutal. The enemies judged it was better to be mobbed and trapped in shields by the humans elsewhere than be near that animal!
No one dared attack the flabby ball in the middle of the battlefield since then.
And so… the iron panda slept soundly, gathering energy to roll around again later on.
…
Some of those who had managed to get inside the easements were elementalists—a mix of elementalists from Terran and elementalists from the local area.
As a Town, Basset naturally had a number of elementalists. Overall, there were several dozen of them, though they were mostly in early level 20s.
Elementalists were naturally arrogant, however, and they refused to listen to people who weren't of much higher levels than them unless they were elementalists themselves.
Elementalists were rare and powerful, and they were treated as nobles. Because most nobles would not join wars, this meant that the elementalists were treated with extra care in the battlefield, exacerbating their arrogance.
This was why there was only one or a few elementalists per team—still with a clear hierarchy—otherwise, there'd be conflicts. For local elementalists, one wouldn't see them concentrated and focused on a few areas, which ultimately made them easier to handle.
This was also why most elementalists weren't able to cause much damage at all because they were handled with amazing teamwork from Alterran elementalists, whether or not their levels were inferior to those from Basset Town.
At the same time, many of them hadn't acted until recently. They considered it below them to be part of the vanguard forces, and they only started attacking when more breaches were formed.
Anyway, just their faces were annoying to Alterrans, and they'd find themselves targeted much more than their colleagues.
As for the Terran elementalists, they were really quite pitiful. They were filled with wounds and were obviously exhausted and stretched thin. However, their bodies were pushed beyond the limit just to follow their orders.
Their order was to lead their citizens inside and, after a while, they did succeed a bit, which was how at least half of the breaches in this area were formed.
At this time, Baison, Hippo, and Anton had each others' backs as they threw their respective elements at the Alterrans.
They positioned themselves near a structure next to a street, allowing the building to cover their backs as they threw elements at approaching Alterrans, aiming to clear the way to the streets.
In order to let the Basset Town folks escape to the streets, they'd attack the guards and civilians who tried to stop them. Theoretically, this was smart and effective, but the slaves were not happy at all.
They were sobbing while they did this. They had no control over their bodies, and it was such a horrid feeling. The only comfort was that although some Alterrans were hurt and many had to step back, they hadn't killed anyone yet.
It was amazing—how these people were so strong and well-prepared.
Sadly, they were on the other side and were supposed to kill them.
The sight was a bit heartbreaking, and it made people really reluctant to hurt them more. This was especially the case for people like Gurnam, who knew how horrible it felt to hurt your own brethren without choice.
Fortunately, now that the slaves were inside the territory, they were therefore much easier to handle. After all, to approach them without killing them, they didn't have to go out the territory and into the enemy mobs anymore.
Slaves were not counted in the population. Whether they lived or died wouldn't have affected the war in terms of the quantity required to win.
As such, an organized team immediately headed straight to them. Many of the guards dealt with them directly, tackling them.
Many of the guards took direct Elementalist attacks, but somehow they came out nearly unscathed. They had no idea why, but they were relieved.
Even when their bodies spent the remaining small amount of mana they had to attack, aiming to hurt, the Alterrans bravely approached them without aiming to kill.
The next thing they knew, their mouths and noses were covered with a handkerchief coated with a strong smell. It wasn't those chloroform solutions from back in Terran, but they didn't know what it was.
The slaves could only struggle under the guards' hold, slowly weakening as they felt their consciousness slip by.
"It's time to rest now," they heard someone say. And then it was black.
