Almighty Father System-Chapter 129: Wall.
The arrow shot through the void in a parabola, and lodged itself in the shoulder of the Bear. The beast was hurt and it was enraged. The bear roared loudly as it turned to look at Leo. The young man took out another arrow, and he shot another arrow at the animal.
The beast understood that Leo was the biggest target in this scene, and it ignored the rest of the people and dashed toward Leo. The young man frowned and he squeezed his legs around the waist of his horse and he charged toward the bear.
In his mind, Leo had the information of mounted combat and he also had the ability to handle this situation as well. His strength attributes were stronger than the rest of the people to assure that he manages to survive the situation. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Maximus charged forward as well, and he grabbed the long spear and then aimed the tip of the blade toward the charging beast. Just when the beast was getting closer, Leo stabbed the spear at the eyes of the beast.
His shove was quick and his grip was firm. The spear stabbed deep through the skull and the beast groaned and roared as it lost balance. The young man kept charging forward before he slowed down and then came around to the groaning beast. He raised his spear and shoved it through the second eye of the beast. However, this time, he grabbed the shaft of the spear even tighter and pushed it even deeper before giving it a big twist.
The bear groaned loudly before its voice lowed gradually and it fell on the ground completely devoid of life.
The young man took a deep breath and said, "Kyle, where did this beast come from?"
Kyle rushed up to him, and said, "Your Grace, it came from that direction. A few children were playing here, and they saw it before they alerted us."
Leo turned his horse around, took a look in the direction where the beast came from and he frowned. He said, "Gather a few people and find some alarm traps hundred meters away from the treeline. Increase the patrol frequency around the entire city."
Kyle nodded and then Leo looked at the rest, "If anyone is injured, get treated fast, the rest take a rest, and get someone to clean up this beast, and distribute the meat among the brothers. Also, the fur and bones, I want them all."
The people bowed and said, "Yes, My Lord."
Leo then rode his horse back home, and found from Crawford that Lily and Snow had gone to town to console the parents of a child who was slightly injured by the bear. The young man didn't mind that, he took off his armor, and sighed.
Crawford was surprised and asked, "Lord, what happened? Are you injured?"
Leo shook his head and replied, "I am fine, Crawford, it's just that I am worried about what might happen to the people in the future."
Crawford was surprised and asked, "Sir, what do you mean?"
Leo replied, "Winter is upon us, and the entire outer town is exposed to the wild, what do you think will happen? They have enough to worry about food, and then they have to think about the beasts coming in to attack them. How can they survive?"
The old butler had also come to this town with Leo and so it was his first time as well. The old man sighed and said, "Sire, we cannot build a wall that quickly."
The young man nodded and replied, "I have a solution, we might not be able to hold against any big beast, but the wolves and tigers wouldn't be a problem."
Crawford asked, "What solution, Your Grace!"
Leo said, "Call the blacksmiths, I want to talk to them."
Crawford thought for a bit and said, "Lord, shall I just summon the leader of the blacksmith guild?"
Leo raised his brow and asked, "We have a blacksmith guild?"
The old steward chuckled and said, "Lord, the head of the blacksmiths is the person who served in the army. He is very disciplined and so he established a guild and standardized the princes of things they make based on the quality. He is very well received. There are about seven black smiths in our town."
Leo nodded and said, "Summon all of them. I will talk to them."
Crawford agreed and then left the spot. Snow and Lily came over after a few minutes, and the little girl looked at her father, as she said, "That child is lucky, his arm would have been lost had it not been for his quick reaction."
Leo asked, "Is he okay now?"
The little girl nodded and Snow said, "Her parents are in peril. They are humble potters, and such an injury could really jeopardize their household. I couldn't see her tear up and gave her ten silver coins. That should be enough for her. I will send someone to check on them in a few days."
Leo nodded and said, "That is good, I have called the blacksmiths, we need to come up with some sort of defence against the wild animals."
Lily frowned and said, "Baba, why do animals attack us?"
Leo sighed as he heard her question and said, "My love, animals don't attack unless they are hungry or panicked. The bear today must have wandered around and in search of food it found itself close to the human settlement. The food that is cooked in the homes must have lured the bear here. The children were just unfortunate."
Leo paused and he said, "Humans are the ones that you need to worry about more, Love."
Lily frowned and asked, "How?"
The young man smiled and replied, "Remember how you wanted to buy the same dress as the princess last time?"
Lily nodded and Leo continued, "You did not get that dress, what did you do? You stopped eating. Similarly, if someone else likes something you have, and they cannot have it. No matter what they do, if they cannot have it, they will harm you for it. Be it greed, or hate, or envy that they cannot control would force them to harm you."
The girl looked unusually serious, while Leo didn't wish to expose her to such things but this was a medieval world setting, he wasn't sure if he could afford to let her grow ignorant for the coming one year.
Snow beckoned the little girl and said, "Your Baba doesn't want you to be scared, but you are now the Young Miss of the Baron mansion. It is your duty to protect the people and while you are too young to protect others, you are still strong and big enough to protect yourself."
Lily nodded and said, "I will do my best."
Leo nodded and took her little hands in his own. After a few minutes, Crawford came over, and said, "My lord, the blacksmiths are here."
Leo nodded, he pecked the back of his daughter's hand and then he went out of the mansion where he found seven burly men standing with a curious expression on their faces.
Watching Crawford and Leo coming over, the oldest blacksmith among the people said, "Silence, His Grace is here."
The people fell silent and Leo smiled and the old man said, "Greetings, Your Grace."
Leo saw they all bowed to him and he said, "Please raise your heads."
The people stood up straight and Leo said, "I am sure that you would be wondering why have I called you over. The cause is simple and only you are capable of doing the job."
The old man said, "Lord, your wish is my command."
Leo was surprised and the old man said, "Lord, there has never been a lord who could lead this town. You are the first person and we all need your wisdom. We will follow your commands without failing."
Leo had been smiling the entire time but when he heard this, he became serious and said, "We have a serious problem. The outer town lacks a wall, and the winter will invite the beasts to come in. So, we have to do something about it, since we cannot prepare walls, we need to come up with an alternative."
The men nodded and Leo said, "I want you to make iron staffs, as thick as an adult's arm. I want them to be erected on the ground five meters away from each other. Then I will need you to make wire from iron, as much as possible. Make it barbed and we pass it through the iron posts, and it would be slightly better than having no wall."
The old man said, "Sire, how about we use wooden trunks, clearing some trees from the vicinity and weave a barbed wire through it? The iron reserves are not high as it is, and cutting trees and making posts is quicker as well."
Leo was surprised and then he said, "Good, we will do this, Chief Ares."
Ares smiled and said, "Thank you, Your Grace. I will organize the woodcutters right after going back. Within a week you will get the result."
Leo nodded as one boulder was taken over his chest.
