Chapter 87: Ace’s Parents!

Marsel exhales, his fingers tightening around his cup. He looks at Elira, as if silently asking how to begin. She gives a small nod, but the tension between them is unmistakable.

"Guys! My patience is running out! Don’t you think I have had enough of worry already?! What is it?!"

The room is silent except for the faint crackling of the fireplace. But Ace barely hears it.

He sets down his cup slowly, his fingers feeling numb. "What do you two want to say to me? Am asking one last time and if you don’t speak, am leaving!"

Elira exhales shakily, casting a brief glance at Marsel before finally speaking. "The night you were found as a newborn... Ace, it wasn’t supposed to happen like that."

Ace frowns, the unease curling in his gut tightening.

"What do you mean?"

Marsel swallows hard.

His usual firm, controlled demeanor wavers, his fingers twitching slightly on the wooden table. "The people who left you there..." He looks directly at Ace, his voice raw. "It was us."

The words hit Ace like a physical blow.

For a moment, everything feels distant

_like he’s hearing them from underwater, muffled and unreal.

His heart stammers.

"What?" His voice barely comes out.

Elira flinches slightly but doesn’t look away. "We left you there, Ace."

Ace pushes back from the table, his chair scraping against the wooden floor.

The warmth in the room suddenly feels suffocating, thick like it’s pressing down on him.

"No," he breathes out. "No, that doesn’t make any sense. Okay, how comes?!"

Marsel doesn’t move. He just watches him with dark, troubled eyes. "We didn’t do it because we wanted to."

Ace clenches his fists, his nails digging into his palms. "Then why did you? I mean, how in the first place? Like why you exactly? Why d... ugh!"

Marsel’s jaw tightens. "Because you were going to be killed."

Ace freezes.

The words echo in his mind, twisting around his thoughts like a vice.

Elira’s voice is softer, but no less painful. "The moment you were born, they saw it. Your powers."

Ace stares at them, his pulse roaring in his ears.

Marsel nods grimly. "They said you weren’t normal. That no wolf child should be born with powers, especially like yours."

Elira’s hands tremble as she grips them together. "They called you unnatural. A danger to the balance of the packs."

Ace feels a sharp chill creep through him, sinking into his bones.

"They were going to kill you," Marsel says, his voice low but firm.

Ace swallows, his throat suddenly dry.

"They said you should never have existed," Elira whispers, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "That if they let you live, you would bring chaos."

Ace’s breath stutters.

His whole life, he had believed he was abandoned_ discarded by people who didn’t want him. But this... this was something else entirely.

Marsel’s voice is quieter now, but just as heavy. "We had no choice, Ace."

Ace shakes his head, his hands curling into fists at his sides.

"One second, what you mean is that, you are my parents?!," he asks, his voice hoarse.

"Yes my baby" Elira nodes violently answering, while marsel nodes quietly, his vision blurring.

"And you left me there, alone." Ace adds , tears streaming already.

Marsel’s face twists in pain. "To save you, son. We didn’t leave that place until some two couple took you, we followed, we saw where you lived, but we didn’t dare take you again. We’ve been watching you, even when you started living with Xiao Jun, we knew."

Ace lets out a shaky breath.

His entire body feels like it’s trembling, but he doesn’t move.

He just stands there, the weight of the truth crashing over him like a tidal wave.

The room is silent, waiting for him to speak.

But Ace... Ace doesn’t even know what to say.

Elira’s fingers tremble slightly as she reaches for Ace’s hand, but he doesn’t take it. He’s too stunned to move. The words hang in the air, heavy and suffocating.

Marsel takes a slow breath before continuing, his voice firm despite the sorrow laced in it. "We were cast out, Ace. For bringing you into this world."

Ace’s stomach twists. His throat feels tight. "Why?" His voice is barely a whisper.

Marsel’s eyes darken with something ancient, something painful. "Because they said we brought unnatural being to life... that a power like that wasn’t supposed to exist."

Elira nods, her eyes glistening. "They called you unnatural. A curse. Said you weren’t one of them. They wanted to... to get rid of you."

Ace flinches. His breath comes shallow.

"We refused," Marsel says, his voice like steel. "We refused to let them touch you. We fought for you. And for that, they cast us out."

Elira swallows hard. "So we ran. Deep into the woods, as far from the pack as we could. We had nowhere else to go, but we had you. And that was enough."

Ace looks at them_ at the way their eyes burn with emotion, the way their hands remain tightly entwined as if bracing for impact.

"But if you were exiled," he says slowly, "how did you survive?"

Marsel and Elira exchange a look before Elira speaks. "The Moon Goddess."

Ace’s breath hitches.

"She spoke to us," Marsel says. "Through dreams. Visions. She guided us. Told us why you were different, why you were special."

Ace’s mind spins. He doesn’t even realize he’s gripping his knees tightly until his knuckles turn white.

"We didn’t just speak to her, Ace. She chose us. She gave us purpose. We became her VeilWalkers."

Ace blinks. "VeilWalkers? The ones Kieran mentioned"

Marsel nods, his expression unreadable. "Wolves who stand at the veil between the living and the divine. Wolves who hear her voice when no one else can."

Elira’s voice turns soft, reverent. "We are the last ones left, Ace. The last of the early wolves who walked this land before packs even had names."

A shiver runs down Ace’s spine. His whole life, he had known them as mysterious figures_ wolves who lived on the edges of society, untouched by time. Legends.

And now...

Ace feels his pulse in his ears, loud and fast. The weight of their words settles in his chest like a storm waiting to break.

His parents, they are his parents... the parents he has always wondered about... hearing their story just makes Ace break into tears.

He weakly walk to them, landing into their arms as sobs erupt.
