Chapter 986 -896: The Second Oscar Best Actor
The last weekend of February 2016 marked the grand opening of the 88th Oscar ceremony.
This edition sparked much more buzz than usual with controversies related to African Americans and diversity affecting the whole of America.
In front of the Dolby Theatre, both fans and media reporters were present in greater numbers than at the previous ceremony.
In the media zone, Martin, who had come alone, was being interviewed.
“You are the front-runner for Best Actor, according to all major media predictions,” asked David Gru from ABC, “Do you feel confident about winning?”
Martin smiled, “The Oscar is a fair competition, everyone who is nominated has a chance to win, and I hope Lady Luck will favor me.”
Soon after, more people entered the media area.
Martin didn’t stay long and went straight into the Dolby Theatre.
Mene approached from one side, greeting, “Boss.”
Martin gave him a quick look-over and said, “You look a lot tougher, kid.”
Mene responded, “I’ve been worn out by Chad, Tiger, and Marcus. Over the past year, filming ‘The Continental New York,’ I’ve been pushed to the limit, even more draining than dealing with Emma and Celine.”
Bruce, who was following Martin, said, “Why do I hear bragging in your complaints?”
“Is that so? Am I bragging?” Mene’s boasting seemed unintentional, “Old Cloth, look at my face, my hands, the injuries from filming haven’t even healed! Don’t crush my fragile heart anymore…”
Chad, Tiger, and Marcus approached from the restroom area.
The former said, “Martin, Old Cloth, you didn’t see it, when Celine and Emma visited the set at the same time, we thought Mene was done for, but he managed to defuse the situation just with his smooth talking.”
Marcus, with a pregnant belly, gave a thumbs-up, “Mene is truly a role model for men.”
Tiger also added, “If I had Mene’s skills, I’d have retired already.”
Everyone burst into laughter.
Martin went over and hugged each of the three men.
Chad, Mene, Tiger, and Marcus were all going to be presenters tonight, which served as a promotion for “The Continental New York.”
This spin-off from the “John Wick” series had finished filming in January and was currently in post-production, with a release expected in July in North America.
As the main character of the new movie, Mene had endured many hardships during the shoot.
Martin asked, “Any plans for a follow-up?”
Chad briefly said, “If ‘The Continental New York’ does as well as expected, we can split into two paths, one is to continue filming sequels, and the other is for Blake Lively, who plays Sophia the manager at the Casablanca Continental Hotel, to cross-shoot productions, wait a few years, and you can play Jonathan again, and then the three characters will appear together.”
Martin nodded, “Sounds a bit like the Avengers’ approach.”
Chad mentioned, “We borrowed their plan, and we can expand our universe further.”

Martin reassured Chad, “Just handle it, and remember to give me a complete proposal.”
Chad had never considered leaving the franchise, saying, “I’m working on a detailed plan already.”
The group chatted as they entered the main hall of the Dolby Theatre.
Martin’s seat was in the front row, and he soon split from them and took a seat by himself in the second row.
It might have been an intentional arrangement by the award ceremony’s directors, but his seat was right next to Leonardo and Nicholson.
The two jerks still hadn’t arrived.
Just as Martin sat down, Jennifer Aniston from the row behind leaned over and whispered, “Things are going smoothly on my side, how about yours?”
Martin turned his head and lowered his voice as well, “Darling, you’ll know the outcome in three hours.”
Aniston shrugged, “Hope we both gain something,”
Then she looked towards a row across the aisle.
There, the main crew of “Spotlight” had almost assembled.
For the Best Picture award, “Moonlight” and “Spotlight” were the top contenders.
Other nominated films like “Bridge of Spies,” “Split,” and “Room” were clearly just making up the numbers.
The “Split” crew didn’t have many people present, David Finch had long said goodbye to the Oscars and naturally had no interest in attending the ceremony.
Besides Martin’s nomination for Best Actor, only Jonathan Nolan had received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Leonardo and Nicholson finally arrived from outside and took their seats next to Martin.
Martin glanced at Leonardo and said, “Congratulations, Leo, you’ve successfully lost the weight.”
Leonardo replied, “The Revenant character was really torturous, you know? I lost a whole ten pounds!”
Nicholson flicked Leonardo’s deflated belly, “Now you can win back true love.”
Speaking of true love, Leonardo’s mood seemed to dip as he said quietly, “They are very happy together, I don’t want to be a home-wrecker.”
Martin patted Leonardo on the shoulder, “Gisele will divorce Tom Brady, I’ve heard from a few friends in the fashion industry; she’s very unsatisfied with Tom Brady.”
Leo, incredulous, asked, “Why?”
Martin casually fibbed, “Because Tom Brady loves football more than family.”
Leonardo blinked, “Really?”
“Whether true or not, it’s of no use to you,” Nicholson delivered a harsh reality, “Even if Gisele divorces Tom Brady, she won’t choose you, Leo, you’ll still be the idiot cheering Gisele and someone else from the sidelines.”
