Evelyn stood stunned after watching the series of events that had unfolded. Except her shock came not from Lucia's near flawless surprise attack, but because her target had evaded it.

'Impossible!' Evelyn thought, her expression twisted into one of disbelief.

Lucia's magic had been cast with almost no indication of what she planned to do, and the powerful beam of light she had conjured moved far to fast for anyone to realistically react to it.

Yet, in the small frame of time while she wove her magical energy into a spell, the man that had stopped them had realized Lucia's intentions and calculated the trajectory of her attack.

If some sort of protective magic tool or spell had blocked the beam of light, Evelyn could have understood it. But the man had dodged from a relaxed position without any signs of being wary towards them. Without a doubt, Evelyn knew she could not hope to pull off such a feat.

"Woah! Now that wasn't nice. I thought we were having a polite conversation, but you suddenly try to kill me." The Deamhain Sect executive said, his tone conveying irritation.

What happened next was too fast for either Evelyn or Lucia to see.

Suddenly the man that had stopped them was right in front of them, and his right leg slammed into Lucia's stomach with so much speed that it looked like a blur.

With a sound like an explosion, she was blown back and slammed into the carriage behind her where the others were waiting.

The sturdy wood the vehicle was composed of splintered and cracked and the carriage went flying several hundred meters as Lucia ricochet off of it and shot in another direction.

Evelyn could not breathe as all of this occurred. It felt like a lead weight had suddenly appeared in her throat and an unbridled terror took hold of her.

"Are you going to try anything as well? Or do you want to comply peacefully and get this over with?"

For a moment Evelyn shuddered, and her mind froze. An immense wave of hostile magic energy was being directed at her.

Yet after only a moment of wavering, she bit down on her tongue hard enough to draw blood.

The sharp pain and taste of iron in her mouth helped to take her mind off her fear and focus on what she had to do. Surrender would only lead to her imprisonment once again, and she refused to become a test subject again.

'I stood up to that monstrous dryad that was far stronger than this man. It will take more than this to break me.' Evelyn thought, strengthening her resolve.

Without warning she activated her gravity field to its full power and lowered the natural pull of the world to less than a fortieth of its normal force.

Immediately as she cast her magic, the man moved to intercept her but found that his immense strength and speed had sent him soaring over her head.

The natural pull of the world that had always been constant before was suddenly many times less.

As the man flew through the air, he quickly twisted his body around and pulled out a flying disk to stand on.

All of this happened in less than a second, but it was still enough time for Evelyn to prepare her next move.

Holding both hands in front of her, she swiftly conjured wind magic in her right hand and fire magic in her left. Both combined to create a raging crimson twister that shot towards the man with enough power to level a city block.

'He's gone!?'

Right before her attack hit, the man appeared to vanish. His flying disk had still been where he was moments ago and took the full brunt of Evelyn's magic, but the item's owner was nowhere to be seen.

"Now that's a pretty fierce attack coming from a low tier arcanist. Or are you a tyrant beast? It's still hard for me to tell because of the magic tool you're wearing."

Despite Evelyn catching him off guard for a moment, the Deamhain Sect executive still had his nonchalant demeanor. He was not taking her seriously in the slightest. Of course, why would he. She was more than an entire rank below him.

'At the very least I know what he's been doing now.'

At first Evelyn could not understand how he was moving so fast, but now she did.

He wielded the same type of magic as her sister, Aralee. By using momentum magic around himself, he was able to greatly raise his speed to the point where it seemed that he was vanishing.

Fortunately, Evelyn's gravity magic matched up well against him. She could lower gravity to mess with his ability to close the distance in an instant just as she had earlier, and if she increased gravity, the added force would slow him down.

"It's definitely weird. Right here, my body suddenly feels lighter." The man said, pushing one of his arms through the threshold of Evelyn's gravity field.

There was interest and amusement in his eyes as he practically played around with Evelyn's magic.

She was not going to just let him do as he pleased though. With both hands she began attaching gravity tethers to the man that had large trees and boulders connected to the other end.

The strength of her magic pulled the roots of the trees out of the ground and the long-settled rocks rose up and shot forward like cannonballs.

It was a sudden barrage coming from the landscape, and the Deamhain Sect executive turned into a blur as he ran around and dodged the projectiles.

However, even as he darted around, the objects Evelyn had forced him to become the center of gravity for flew after him unceasingly.

"You're just full of surprises. How in the world are you making this happen?" The man said while leisurely avoiding the stones and foliage chasing him.

Whenever Evelyn spotted him, even if for only an instant, she connected another object to him with her gravity tether.

Yet she soon realized that this plan was not going to work.

'He's too quick.' Evelyn thought, grinding her teeth in frustration.

She had already reached her limit for the number of gravity tethers she could currently conjure, and her target showed not problems easily zipping around and evading the persistent assault.

He had practically turned it into some sort of game, seeing how long he could wait before dashing away.

Eventually he seemed to grow tired of simply running around, and flashed Evelyn a devilish grin when he stopped for just a moment.

Immediately she braced herself for whatever it was he planned to do.

"Ah, I think I finally figured out how to deal with whatever this magic is surrounding you."

Evelyn's eyes went wide as she heard a voice behind her. She could feel the Deamhain Sect executive standing there.

Not once had she lost focus on her gravity field. With how low the gravity around her currently was. it would have been practically impossible for anyone to get to her too quickly for her to respond. If someone used enough force to go as fast as her enemy must have, it should have sent them flying.

Evelyn channeled her magic energy into a thick shield behind her, expecting an imminent attack like the one Lucia had received.

Yet, the man just stood there without making a move.

It was only a second later that Evelyn realized what he was doing.

Everything she had attached to him with her gravity tether spell was barreling towards her.
