Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Leave the Military or Not?

He was said to be the only person in the country who can infiltrate any maximum security system, whether a prison or research institute and come out alive.

He also had a long record of apprehending terrorists and protecting the country from devastating consequences.

Hearing the legends is one thing, but witnessing him in action was a whole lot different.

"Indeed, the legends didn’t exaggerate. Who else can fight against and kill over two hundred zombies alone?" One soldier said in awe.

"His superpower is at a higher level than ours. A whole lot higher." Qi Long said as he looked at the place in the distance where only ashes were being blown away by the wind.

"The captain is right. And he can use his superpower to cover his sword. I think it makes the sword stronger or something." Another soldier said.

While these few soldiers admired Ye Xuan’s ability, Qi Long’s focus was on something else. What did Ye Xuan collect and put in his backpack after burning the zombies?

He didn’t think that the major would do something pointless. However, before he figured that out, he wanted to talk to his brothers first.

Everything that has been happening in the military and the struggle for power has affected its operations leading to the death of many soldiers.

But even with reports of soldiers dying out here while conducting pointless missions, nobody seemed to care. It was as if the lives of soldiers were worthless as the leaders continued to fight for central power together with politicians.

He had lost his faith in the military and didn’t want the last of his brothers to perish in vain.

He had to take them out of the military and forge their own path. After witnessing Ye Xuan in action, he already had a pretty good idea of where he would go.

But, before that, he had to seek his brothers’ opinion first.

"All of you must have realized that the military is no longer the previous army that was dedicated to serving and protecting the people.

The oath we took when we joined the military was to protect the country and its people. However, it is obvious that the current military has changed its goal.

The higher-ups are more interested in power than protecting the country or the people.

My question is, are you still willing to serve in such a military?" Qi Long asked out of the blue, causing his brothers to stop their charter and look at him.

They were quiet for a whole minute before they realized what their captain had asked.

The young soldier was the first to speak.

"Captain, even though we know that the military has changed, what can we do?"

The others also nodded their heads.

"We didn’t sign up in the military until death. We are entitled to early retirement. What do you mean by ’what can we do?’" Qi Long asked in return.

"Even though the higher-ups are no longer reliable, we still want to serve the people even in these chaotic times. If we leave the military, how can we do that?" Another soldier asked, and like the first time, the others nodded as well.

Qi Long looked at these young people who were so devoted even in the face of death and his resolve to leave the military intensified.

He was not going to let his brothers die as a sacrifice in a battle for power.

"Does it mean that you can only serve the people while in the military?" Qi Long asked them again.

"Then how?" The young soldier jumped to ask again.

But the others had already started to think deeply about this question. Is there no other way to serve the people apart from in the military.

They could not think of a satisfactory answer.

"Do you all remember the famous scientist, Song Ting who was kidnapped and locked in a research institute in Country M?" Qi Long asked.

Everyone turned to look at him because even though this case was low-key and hushed, they still knew about it.

"Of course we know. Didn’t the country send an elite team to rescue him? The team wrecked havoc in the institute before they left as a warning to country M not to touch our citizens again." One of the soldiers replied.

"Contrary to what many believe, or what they were made to believe, there was no elite team that went to rescue the scientist." Qi Long said as he looked at the shocked faces of his team.

"Then...then what happened?" The young soldier asked the question everyone was itching to ask.

"It was a solo extraction mission conducted by the man you just witnessed kill over two hundred zombies alone." Qi Long replied.

Everyone was shocked when they heard that.

"That difficult mission was carried out by one person?" With a shocked expression, one soldier asked.

Another one added, "I heard that the elite team took only three days to complete the mission, but if only Major Ye conducted the rescue operation alone, doesn’t that mean that the information was wrong? He must have taken at least a week to complete it so successfully."

Qi Long looked at them and debated with himself whether to tell them the truth or not. Considering his plans, he decided to be honest with them.

"He only took two days."

The others felt as if they were hallucinating. One person conducting a mission that was meant for the elite team in the country is one thing, but doing it in two days? That was a miracle.

No wonder the guy was seen as a legend in the history of the military in the country.

"But, captain, something isn’t right. Wasn’t that operation conducted less than two years ago? At that time Major Ye had already retired." One soldier suddenly pointed out.

"Exactly my point." Qi Long said with a serious expression.

Unfortunately, his subordinates were straightforward men who couldn’t think about logical problems to save their lives.

Even after two minutes, nobody seemed to understand what he meant. They all looked at him as if they were curious babies waiting for their mother to enlighten them.

Qi Long sighed silently and sympathized with himself for two seconds before elaborating his meaning.
