Chapter 53 - Mysterious Place [1]

"Seriously? Kael trained you in swordsmanship earlier?!"

Vale paused, then added:

"And gave you his wooden sword?"

Zane nodded and said, "That's right."

Vale remained silent for a moment, looking at Zane with a strange expression. He then said, "But, why were you practicing swordsmanship in the first place? Considering you already have a large mana capacity, and you specialize in barrier spells too, I don't see a reason why you must learn swordsmanship."

Zane remained silent for a while this time. Vale had a point.

It was pretty evident that Zane learned swordsmanship to defend himself when an enemy got close enough, which is why Vale brought up the fact that he specialized in barrier spells.

But the reason he learned swordsmanship wasn't just to defend himself in close combat, but also to improve his physical capabilities.

Mages nowadays rely too much on magic, neglecting how vulnerable they are when facing an enemy who specializes in weapons. Once the enemy gets close and finds an opening, they can easily knock you down.

Not if you were durable and fast, though.

"Well, there's no telling what might happen in the future, you know? What if there was someone who could temporarily stop you from casting magic spells, and all you could do is rely on your physical capabilities?"

He paused, then added, "And plus, I'm only going to learn swordsmanship to improve my physical capabilities more. I'm not actually going to make it my main fighting style."

Vale nodded, agreeing with Zane's statement.

"I see."

He paused, then added, "But, it's really unusual to see you so dedicated to physical activities. It's making me think you've been reborn. It was already surprising to learn that you've been cursed, taking away most of your mana."

...

Moments afterward, Zane and Vale began their physical training.

They did so until the moon appeared.

Zane and Vale were breathing heavily, having finished their physical training.

They were sweating as if they had just taken a shower, which honestly wasn't that surprising. I mean, this might be the longest time they had trained physically. Most of the time, they finished in an hour or so.

"Ahh, I might actually die this time."

Vale was lying down on the ground, with sweat dripping down his forehead and breathing heavily as well.

Meanwhile, Zane sat on the ground, holding the wooden sword in his right hand. Just like Vale, he was also breathing heavily and sweating profusely.

"We might have overdone it this time..."

Zane said, as he could hardly breathe.

"Might? I think we really overdid it this time, Zane."

He paused, then added, "Anyway, we should go already."

"Right."

Zane and Vale then stood up.

As Vale was wiping away the sweat that had accumulated all over his body, Zane could see a few bruises on his arms and body.

'Huh?'

'How come I didn't notice them before?'

Zane stared at them for a moment, deciding if he should bring it up or not.

In the end, he decided not to say anything. Vale hated bringing up bad memories, after all.

Zane then also wiped away the sweat that had accumulated on his forehead.

After that, they started to walk away, heading to their dormitory.

There wasn't really anyone to disturb their training, since mostly once the classes ended, they would already head to their dormitory. Only those people who were very dedicated to becoming stronger remained in the training ground.

Which wasn't many, really.

Moments afterward, they finally arrived at their dormitory. Both of them then took a shower and cleaned themselves.

They then ate and went to their rooms.

Zane placed his wooden sword on his table and jumped onto his bed. He then released a sigh and closed his eyes.

'I haven't learned any new magic spells so far.'

'And also, about the personal training room I requested from my mother, I won't be able to use it currently since I can only use it when I'm in the main castle. Which means that I will have to find a spacious place, with no one around other than me, so that I can really start learning.'

'But, where?'

- Sigh

"Ah, what a tiring day. I'm a ghost, yet I still feel tired..."

Startled by the sound coming from his bedroom, Zane jumped back.

"Velrath?"

He paused, then added, "What took you so long to come back?"

Velrath smiled and said, "Well, you know, just strolling around like what I usually do."

'Again with the same reason?'

"Anyway, Zane. I found a place you could train in."

As Zane was about to be suspicious of Velrath's actions and behavior, he was distracted by the good news that Velrath brought with him.

"Really?!"

"Yup."

Hearing Velrath's confirmation, Zane smiled widely. It was almost as if all the fatigue his body had accumulated had been erased by this sudden news.

"Then I can finally start tomorrow!"

As he was about to jump around his room to celebrate, his body then started to hurt like hell, making him fall back onto his bed.

"Ah shit!"

Velrath, meanwhile, was looking at him blankly.

"What a weird kid..."

"What'd you say?"

"Ah, nothing."

Velrath then crossed his arms and said, "Why don't you just sleep already?"

...

The class had just recently ended.

And it was finally time to head over to the place Velrath had mentioned before.

As they were heading there, Zane was starting to get irritated, as the path towards the place Velrath found was too hard to go through.

The forest was extremely rough and thick, the grounds were uneven too. It's like they were walking through hell.

Soon after, they finally arrived at the place.

"How is it? Good, right? Not only is it spacious, it's also incredibly clean."

Zane stared at the scenery before him, with his eyes wide and his mouth slightly open.

Zane didn't expect the place Velrath found to be this beautiful. With how rough the path was, he expected it to be full of ancient trees.

But surprisingly, it was quite the opposite. It was clear as daylight, not only that, but it was also overflowing with mana.

"How come no one has found this place yet?"
