Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 441: Do Bugs Count?
Chapter 441: Do Bugs Count?
Looking out one of the many back windows in the mansion that Eric had given me, I couldn’t help but sigh. The moon was stunning... completely full, with a majesty that made you just want to continue staring at it.
Ever so slowly, dark, black clouds drifted in front of the light, blocking sections of the moon, but not enough to obscure everything. It looked like something out of a horror movie, or the perfect moon when it was Halloween, and you could feel the shift in the air.
Taking in a deep breath, I froze. August had no right smelling like this. This was that scent that was normally reserved for a cold October night. You know the one... the cold, crisp air mixed with something burning... and the earth itself slowly decaying as it prepared for winter.
I could practically see the fall when I closed my eyes...
"What’s happening?" asked Chang Xuefeng as he wrapped his arms around me from behind. "You seem... tense."
Forcing myself to relax, I melted into his body. "I missed you, Daddy," I pouted, my eyes never leaving the line of trees around the bayou. "You were gone for too long."
"I wanted to give you some time by yourself. A lot has happened, and tripping over nine men probably wasn’t helping," chuckled Daddy as he kissed the top of my head. "But I’m sorry if I overstepped." freewebnσvel.cѳm
Shrugging my shoulders, I saw something disappearing into the water. It was like the massive thing, whatever it was, was scared and retreating to the only place it knew to be safe. "You always do what’s best for me... even if I don’t see it at the time."
"Now that was the politest way of telling me that I fucked up that I have ever heard," murmured Chang Xuefeng as he tightened his arms. "I saw Luca."
"I see," I grunted... not wanting to touch that topic with a ten-foot pole. "I don’t know what I should do next."
"There is nothing saying that you have to do something next," advised the man. "You are the one in control here, the only one in control. If Luca can be fixed, he can come to you. If not... then let him be."
"I need that part of my soul," I replied, pressing my hand against my heart. I couldn’t stop the smile on my face as I remembered the random soul that appeared in front of me and pushed through my chest like it owned it.
Leave it to Wrath to offer me his soul without even being in the same room as me... or even asking. But I loved it.
"Then we take that part of your soul back," shrugged Daddy. "Like I said. You are the one in control."
"I’m tired," I announced, even as I heard the rest of the guys moving around the house. "Do you think that I can sleep through the next apocalypse? Or is that going to fuck something up, too?"
"Sleep," assured Chang Xuefeng. Sweeping me up so that I was in his arms, he kissed my temple gently. "The world is still going to be here when you wake up."
"I’m not so sure about that," I shrugged. "But at least the demons will live, so I guess that’s something. I might have to hunt down Bishop if he wants to get his wish."
"All things that can be left for when you wake up. Sleep. I’m here."

The guard narrowed his eyes as he watched the man stumbling toward the front gate. "Gate’s closed," he announced, his voice ringing in the darkness.
"Please!" called out the man, looking up at the top of the wall. "I don’t care where you put me, but I can’t be out here tonight."
The guard was about to refuse when the man beside him clasped his shoulder. "Just put him in quarantine. What’s the worse that can happen? Besides, that man looks like he is about to fall over and die. He can barely put one foot in front of the other. He isn’t a danger."
"What happens if he is a zombie?" sneered the first guard. The second one was known for his bleeding heart, but the other one had seen too many fucked up things since the beginning of the apocalypse.
In fact, he was one of the only people in the world who could actually say that they survived meeting the Sins. True, he was hiding in the forest when the six men arrived and massacred everyone, but others don’t need to know that.
"I stand a better chance at being Alicia’s next fuck than that man does at meeting a zombie. He’s tired. Just give him a place to sleep. If I am wrong, it’s not like Quarantine isn’t capable of dealing with it."
"Fucking bleeding hearts ruling the world," sneered the first guard, but before he could stop his partner, the doors to the Sanctuary were already opening and the man stumbled inside. "Thank you," he called out, just as he collapsed in one of the medic’s arms.
"Thank you."
"I seriously hope that we don’t live to regret this," muttered the first guard under his breath.
"We won’t."
------
The voices in his head were getting louder and louder. The clicking noises that weaved through the sounds were driving him crazy, but there was nothing he could do about it. Every breath he took, every muscle that he moved, he knew that he wasn’t the one in charge of his body.
The feeling of his skin literally crawling wasn’t seen by the medic who was holding him, but even the touch of the other man made him want to kill someone.
"Just a few more steps," assured the medic as he led him toward a large building. "Then you’ll be safe. There’s food, a bed, and nothing can get to you. I just need to ask you a few questions... are you up for that?"
"Okay," groaned the man, swallowing hard. It felt like something was trying to escape up his throat, but he refused to think about it. About what it might be. The last thing he remembered was being at home, opening the front door...
And then nothing until now.
"Were you bitten?" asked the Medic, his voice sounding concerned, but the man could barely hear it over the clicks and voices in his head.
"Do bugs count?" asked the man, cocking his head to the side. "I think I might have been bitten by a bug."
"No," chuckled the Medic. "Bugs don’t count."
