Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 453: A City For Humans
Chapter 453: A City For Humans
It didn’t take Bishop long to find the Sins, plus the Reaper and the Hellhound. The eight men were standing around in a circle, shooting the shit like the world wasn’t crumbling around them.
"Having fun?" asked Bishop as he strolled into their midst. It took him a moment to realize that Eric was also in their midst. "I could use your help."
Wrath cocked his head to the side as Eric chuckled softly under his breath. "That depends; what do you want our help with?"
"Either saving the humans or dealing with the bugs," replied Bishop, his eyes narrowing as even more of the Sins started snickering like they had just heard the best joke ever. "Want to share what’s so funny?"
"You," replied Envy, a brittle smile on his face. "You seem to think that we care."
"You’re here, aren’t you?" replied Bishop, cocking his head to the side. "Doesn’t that count for something?"
"We’re here because Hattie is," replied Tank, looking around the place with disgust. "And right now, she is peacefully sleeping with Ronan in the house by the bayou. She hasn’t given us any commands."
"Perfect," sneered Bishop with a nod of his head. "If she hasn’t given any commands, then that means you’re all free. I need every person in this facility, both the Sanctuary side and the Base side, to evacuate. Take then beyond the walls, someplace that is safe. Those who aren’t helping with the evacuations will help with the exterminations. Fire is no longer an option, so we need to find another way of dealing with the infestation."
"Look at you," smirked Wrath, his eyes glowing red as the afternoon sun started to set. "Thinking you are in charge. It might actually be cute if it wasn’t so annoying."
"Excuse me?" demanded Bishop, taken aback by Wrath’s words. "What do you mean?"
"No one can control us but Hattie," said Pride, his voice carrying in the wind to the people around them. "So we will have to decline your request for assistance. The moment Hattie wakes up, we are gone. If you are lucky, you might never have to see us again."
"That wasn’t part of the deal," snarled Bishop, his temper getting the better of him. "Hattie promised me the Sanctuary."
"She did," agreed Lust. "And she delivered it to you. What you do from here on out is no concern of ours. Your wish came true. You are now in charge, so go do what you need to do. Don’t waste your time here with us."
"People are dying," hissed Bishop, looking from one man to another until his gaze landed on Eric. "I get that the demons are assholes, but you seriously can’t be willing to sit back and just let everyone die. Right?"
"Sorry," shrugged Eric, his hands in his pant pockets as he looked at Bishop. "I’m trying to become one of them. Besides, the humans that are left don’t really interest me."
Bishop staggered back like Eric had hit him. "You’ve got to be kidding me."
"We’re demons," reminded Greed, his bright green eyes narrowing on the man. "The Seven Deadly Sins, to be exact. Human life isn’t worth all that much to us. In fact, I think that we have been indulgent enough in answering your questions. The answer is no, we aren’t helping you. You wished to be in control of Sanctuary? Then go be in control."
Making a shooing motion, Greed turned his back on Bishop as he looked at Gluttony. "I’m trying," he said through gritted teeth. "But tell me again, why are we still here?"
"Because Hattie is," reminded Gluttony. "And the idea of leaving her for even a moment makes you sick to your stomach."
"So, I take it that feeling is normal?" muttered Greed, looking at the other men around him for the answer. It sucked that so much of his life was missing.
"It is," agreed Wrath, rubbing his chest. "I say that we crash the snooze fest. I call her other side." With those parting words, Wrath vanished into thin air.
"You can’t leave," hissed Bishop, his eyes going wide. "I need help."
"And I need to fuck my woman," chuckled Lust. "We can’t all get what we need. Make due with what you have and learn to be grateful that Hattie even likes you. Otherwise, your life would be so much worse."
"But Hattie does like me. Are you sure that she won’t be pissed if you turn your back on me now?" demanded Bishop. There was nothing he hated more than begging someone for help. If Lust didn’t agree with him now, then to hell with all of them.
Bishop could handle it on his own. Even if the Sins agreed to help, not everyone would be saved.
"As much as Hattie likes you, she hates humans more," advised Pride, clasping Bishop on the shoulder. "Those with demon seeds will survive. The bugs won’t touch them. It’s only the actual humans that need to worry. Take care of them, and everything will be fine. Let your demon out a bit more, and the bugs will naturally be repelled by you."
"Thanks," grunted Bishop, trying to be grateful. "Any idea how to kill them?"
"You can always try frying them. You are a lightning user now, aren’t you? Demon powers, while they mirror the human ones, are stronger since the source is stronger. Find more demons, and you’ll have no problem protecting those you want to protect."
"Find more demons?" asked Bishop, narrowing his eyes as he thought about it. "How do I find them?"
"Open your eyes. They are easy to see when you know what to look for. Black eyes are pride, red are wrath, orange are gluttony, envy is purple... you get the idea. Human eyes will always look the same, no matter what."
"Alicia’s eyes were red," remembered Bishop. He had just thought that it was the tick of the light, but it turned out that she was a demon.
"Wrath," shrugged Pride.
"So, demons can protect the humans," mused Bishop, nodding his head. "So, create a city for humans and then pay demons to protect them."
"Or..." started Envy, his eyes rolling as he turned his gaze to Bishop. "Create a city for demons, and make humans work for their protection. Humans are the ones with the need... demons will do just fine without them."
