Betrayed by Blood, Claimed by the Alpha-Chapter 105
Chapter 105: Chapter 105
Betrayed by Blood
Cain sat at his desk, the quiet rustling of papers and the scratch of his pen the only sounds in the room. The morning had just begun, and he already couldn’t shake the memory of Avery’s gaze from his mind.
The way she had looked at him when he told her to stay. The way her breath hitched. The way her warmth had seeped into him as she finally relaxed against him.
It unsettled him.
The door creaked open.
Cain didn’t bother looking up. "Lydia," he said, his tone indifferent as he continued writing. "If it’s about the reports, leave them on the table. I’ll get to them when I have the chance, but I want to know where the update is on the Northern Ridge."
Silence.
Cain’s jaw ticked. He glanced up, expecting Lydia’s usual reply—
But it wasn’t Lydia.
Kendra stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame in the skimpiest outfit he had ever seen. Thin, delicate fabric clung to her curves, leaving very little to the imagination. Her lips were painted a deep red, and her hair cascaded over one shoulder in waves.
Cain’s expression remained stoic. He placed his pen down, leaning back against the chair. "What do you want?"
Kendra stepped forward, swaying her hips with each step, her lips curling into a sultry smile. "You," she murmured, closing the door behind her.
Cain stared at her intently then exhaled slowly. "Leave."
But Kendra wasn’t listening. She walked towards him, confidently. "You’ve been so tense lately," she purred, moving behind his chair. Her fingers trailed over his shoulders, pressing into the muscles as if to massage them. "Let me help you relax."
Cain didn’t react. Didn’t move.
Kendra pressed closer, lowering her lips to his neck. "Let me take care of you," she whispered, brushing her lips over his skin.
Avery’s gaze flashed in his mind.
Cain’s entire body tensed. His wolf stirred inside him, its rejection immediate, furious.
Kendra kissed his neck again.
Cain’s hands curled into fists.
"Stop," he said flatly.
She ignored him, pressing her lips to his jaw this time. "Why are you being so distant?" she murmured. "You didn’t used to be like this with me."
Kendra took his silence as an invitation and slid onto his lap, straddling him, her hands pressing against his chest. "Cain," she whispered, desperation creeping into her voice. "Let me love you."
Cain snapped.
His hands gripped her waist and shoved her off him. Kendra stumbled, catching herself against the desk. Her eyes were wide, humiliated.
"Get out."
She clenched her fists. "Why?" she demanded. "Because of her?"
Cain’s jaw locked.
Kendra let out a sharp, bitter laugh. "I made one mistake, and you’ve held it over my head ever since. But you hated her too! You wanted her gone just as much as I did! So why—why are you being so mean to me now?"
"Kendra-" Cain growled lowly.
"No, don’t Kendra me. Why can’t you see me like you did before? I-I agree I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have had those rogues take her, but I was desperate. I was desperate for your attention! You stopped looking at me. You ignored me. I couldn’t stand it." She cried out, suddenly getting to her knees. "I’m sorry, okay! I’m sorry I did what I did. You’ve punished me enough, but please don’t push me away. I can’t stand it. I need you, Cain."
Cain stared down at Kendra, his expression unreadable. She was on her knees, her hands trembling as she reached for him, her lips quivering with desperation.
"I love you," she choked out, her voice raw. "I always have. Even before she came. Even before all of this. I have always been by your side. Why is that not enough?"
Cain’s jaw clenched. His wolf growled in warning, urging him to push her away, to send her out, but he remained still, watching as Kendra crumbled before him.
Tears streaked her face, ruining the careful makeup she had applied. "I was there when you built this pack. I stood beside you through war, through betrayal, through everything. And you—" Her voice broke, a sob racking through her. "You’re throwing me away for her?"
Cain exhaled sharply, his fingers twitching against the desk. "Kendra, stop this."
"No!" she snapped, her desperation turning into hysteria. "You ignore me. You sideline me. You don’t see me." She sniffled, getting on her feet again. "I love you, Cain!" She took a shaky step forward. "I want you by all means. I’ll do anything—"
Cain stood up, his gaze pinned on Kendra. "You have to stop this craziness, Kendra. You didn’t just make a mistake; you put the pack in jeopardy. That’s not one silly mistake that can be overlooked. You will-"
Kendra leaped forward, latching onto his arm, "Them punishable. Punish me here in Vehiron, but don’t send me out of here. Please don’t make me stay away from you. Please don’t-" she’s cut off by the sharp squeak of the door.
Lydia stepped in, "Alpha, I am done with the rep—" the words die down her throat. Her gaze darting between Kendra and Cain.
Kendra’s chest heaved heavily, she wiped her tears off quickly as she sniffled. "I’m not giving up.." she turned on her heel, walking toward the door. she slowed down a little, her gaze flickering to Lydia’s before finally stepping out. ƒreewebɳovel.com
Lydia exhaled, her gaze shifting to Cain. "That was-" she’s cut off quickly.
"Not a word, Lydia." Cain interjects as he pulled his chair open to sit. Lydia couldn’t help the smile on her face even as she tried to hide it.
She dropped the reports on the table, "I have compiled it all like you asked-" she said and he nodded, reaching for it only to have the door open for the third time, and Callum stepped in cautiously.
"Has everyone suddenly forgotten how to knock, or do I need to set up a teaching school with instructions on how to knock?" Cain barked angrily.
Callum stiffened and bowed quickly. "Forgive me, Alpha. I overstepped." He replied.
Cain doesn’t reply and simply dismisses Lydia, who stepped out immediately. He then shifted his attention to Callum.
"I still haven’t gotten reports from your three days hike, and seeing as you’re back in the pack. I’ll assume your search was fruitless."
Callum swallowed hard, "We didn’t find him. I think he suspected something was off, but we have warriors stationed out there. They’ll find him in no time, Alpha." He rushed out.
Cain rolled his eyes, he stood up from the chair and walked to the window, pulling the blinds down, his gaze sweeping over the pack’s landscape. He then turned to Callum, his jaw clenched hard.
"Go back into the town now. I want results immediately, Callum, and if you are not man enough to give me the results I want, then I’ll put someone else in charge. You have two days to get this done and over with."
