Chapter 109: Chapter 109

Betrayed by Blood

Kendra sat in front of the vanity, brushing her long, red hair, her eyes narrowed as she mentally went through a list of what she was to do for the day. But before she could voice her thoughts, the door swung open with a sharp creak.

Maris, her maid, rushed in, her footsteps heavy. The sudden intrusion startled Kendra, causing her to drop the brush clumsily.

With a swift motion, Maris fell to her knees before Kendra. "My Lady, I have something important to tell you," she said, her voice panicked.

Kendra froze, her gaze sharp as a blade. She let out a short, irritated laugh, the insult already on her tongue. But something about the frantic look in Maris’s eyes made her pause.

"What is it?" Kendra asked, her voice cold but tinged with curiosity. The irritation in her tone was unmistakable.

Maris hesitated for a moment, her words struggling to form. Finally, she spoke quickly. "Avery... Avery plans to break her mating bond with Alpha Cain," Maris said, her voice low. She glanced at Kendra, seeing the way her brows furrowed, which made her confident, and she continued. "I overheard her talking to one of the new recruits—the one who’s always by her side. They spoke about her wanting to break the bond, to leave Alpha Cain. She... she wants to get rid of it."

The words hung in the air for a long, frozen moment. Kendra’s eyes widened, the realization crashing over her like a wave. This was big.

Maris continued, oblivious to the thoughts filling Kendra’s head. "I thought you should know. It could be... useful."

Kendra sat motionless for a moment, her face unreadable, then she slowly smirked. "Useful? You have no idea how useful this is. If this is true, then it’s gold for me."

She stood up, the mirror’s reflection now catching her devilish grin. "This changes everything. He’ll tear her apart. The timing couldn’t be more perfect." She grinned, turning to face Maris.

"You’ve done well, Maris. I never thought you had it in you, but I’m impressed." She said, reaching for her bag and took out some gold coins. She tossed them to the maid. "Here, a token for a job well done."

"Leave now and don’t think of telling anyone else what you’ve just heard. Keep an eye on them and let me know when she does plan on breaking it." She ordered, and Maris nodded, scrambling to her feet with an exaggerated bow before scampering out of the room, leaving Kendra to herself.

As the door clicked shut behind her, Kendra was left alone in her thoughts. She could barely contain the joy that spread through her body.

This was perfect. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Avery wants to break her bond with Cain? It was hilarious, really. Kendra still remembered how Cain had taken it when he heard Avery had tried to escape the pack back then. He was livid at the thought of her being the one to break it. Now, after he defended her, humiliated Gerald, banished Kendra from the pack. Avery wants to break her bond with Cain. It was a cinematic moment.

A bitter laugh escaped her lips. "It’s cinematic," she muttered to herself, her shoulders shaking with laughter.

Oh, it really was gold, and to think she didn’t have anything to do with it too...A fucking masterpiece.

The warriors were all prepared and ready to leave; this time around, they weren’t just leaving with their swords but with guns too. Callum had gone all out. They made a circle while Callum stood in the middle, ready to address them before they set out fully.

"Listen up!" Callum began, his voice echoing through the room. "We are not coming back until we have the traitor, Xander. We have been leaving and have let down our pack a few times now, and I refuse to let it continue. This time, we will show no mercy to the traitor. Now, listen and listen well. Xander is to be killed when sighted. You are to kill him the moment you lay eyes on him. No hesitation. No mercy." He ordered.

The warriors exchanged uneasy glances, and one of them stepped out, "Forgive me, but that wasn’t what Alpha Cain ordered. He wants Xander brought back to the pack, or am I wrong?" The man said, earning a couple of grunts and hums in response.

Callum’s gaze flicked through the men, his jaw clenched tight, fists tightened. In a single stride, he stepped forward, and before the warrior could react, Callum’s hand slammed into his chest, sending him stumbling back a step.

Cain’s gaze burned with rage; he was still so severely underestimated. They still respected Xander more than him. "Don’t you ever question me," he gritted out, his finger pointed at the warrior. "Alpha Cain isn’t here, and I’m the one in charge. Everything I say right now are the exact words of Alpha Cain. He told me clearly what he wants, and that is to kill Xander on sight." He paused, straightening up. "Or, do you dare question the alpha’s words?"

The warrior, momentarily stunned, straightened up, his face flushing with fear.

Callum didn’t give him a chance to respond. He turned away, addressing the entire group of warriors. "I am the head warrior now. The commander. Alpha Cain announced it himself, and you all follow my orders, or you’ll deal with the consequences. I don’t care that you all once served Xander. Right now, he’s a threat to our pack, our region, and if we have learned anything, it’s to defend what is ours. Vehiron is ours, and we will defend it with our lives." He looked around, watching as the warriors all straightened up, looking more determined.

"Xander is to be killed on sight, and if an old man is with him, kill him too. In fact, kill him first. None of them should survive. Do I make myself clear?" He barked.

"Yes, commander!" They said in unison.
