Chapter 268: Shocking Phone Call!
Sawyer glanced at Abigail and noticed she seemed fine talking with his mother and Grandma. He quietly slipped out of the room to answer the call he was reluctant to take, yet he wondered why this man had suddenly called him.
A laugh echoed from the other end of the line before a deep voice followed, "Little brother, I thought you would ignore my call like you usually do. I’m surprised..."
Sawyer stood by the glass window, gazing at the scenery outside. He didn’t respond; instead, he tried to figure out why Harvey had suddenly called him. He pushed himself to look calm and relaxed despite everything that had happened lately.
After the incident at his mother’s birthday party, Sawyer asked Ethan to monitor Harvey’s activities, including his finances. But nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary came up. Harvey spent much of his time either at his mother’s house or visiting her, and his financial activities show nothing unusual.
He had no opportunity to engage in business activities. He didn’t even attend public events like usual, making Sawyer uncomfortable and leading him to suspect that his brother had an ingenious malicious plan.
And now, Harvey called him, and Sawyer could guess what he wanted to discuss—something suspicious. He sighed deeply in silence before saying, "If you don’t have anything to talk about, I will end—"
"Hahaha, come on... why do you sound angry?" Harvey rushed to say before Sawyer ended the call. "I’m supposed to be the angry one, little bro. Honestly, I’m still slightly salty that you didn’t invite me to your wedding."
"Seriously, bro? What do you want?" Sawyer’s voice, slightly raised, sounded impatient. He just wanted to return to the bedroom and stay beside his wife, cuddling.
"Chill, little bro," Harvey chuckled before continuing. "This is what makes me different from you. I won’t hide my marriage. I’m calling you to tell you directly about it so you won’t be caught off guard when the news breaks in the media," he said proudly.
Sawyer couldn’t conceal his surprise. Despite his effort to appear uninterested, he couldn’t believe he had asked him, "You’re getting married?"
"Yeah, my little bro." Harvey took a deep breath before continuing. "I feel like I’m getting older, and it’s time to marry the one I love. This is also thanks to you, bro. You inspire me."
’Since when does he have a girlfriend?’ Sawyer muttered, puzzled. He was confident that Ethan’s information was accurate—his older brother didn’t have a girlfriend.
Before Sawyer could respond, Harvey added, "Well, little bro. Don’t worry, I’ll send out my wedding invitations later. Okay, I need to go now. Bye!"
Sawyer could only shake his head while chuckling as he ended the call. Although he was curious about who Harvey was marrying, he decided to set that thought aside. He rushed back to the bedroom to check on his wife.
...
As soon as Sawyer walked into the room, Hannah quickly approached him.
"Sawyer, where have you been?" Hannah asked, wrapping her arm around her son’s. She pulled him closer to the bed. "Can you call Aaron? Let him remove Abigail’s IV..."
"But Mom—" Sawyer started, but he couldn’t finish his sentence when he noticed Abigail pleading with her eyes. He smiled at her and quickly made the call.
"He’ll be here in thirty minutes," Sawyer said, standing by the bed. His affectionate gaze fixed on Abigail, he asked, "Abby, how are you feeling?"
"She’s fine now, but she’s hungry," Martha replied as she stood up from the bed and joined Hannah. "We’ll go downstairs to cook lunch for her. Let’s go, Hannah..." fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Thanks, Granny, Mom..." Sawyer felt relieved as he watched them leave the bedroom. However, his expression gradually grew gloomy when he turned back and looked at Abigail again.
Abigail chuckled at Sawyer’s expression and patted the edge of the bed, inviting him to sit beside her.
"I’m doing just fine, Sawyer," Abigail said with a smile as she took his hand. "I don’t feel dizzy or nauseous anymore. I’m really fine," she added, trying to sit up.
After Sawyer helped her, Abigail leaned back against the headboard. "Why do you still look so sad and worried?" she asked.
Sawyer didn’t answer immediately; instead, he gazed affectionately into her eyes.
When he noticed her frown, he finally expressed his concern. "I’m worried you might feel this way again in the future. And—" His voice trailed off as he looked at her for a moment before continuing, "Abby, let’s cancel our visit to Grandpa Philips’ house tomorrow."
Abigail’s eyes widened in surprise at his words; she had expected Sawyer to say something like this.
Shaking her head slowly, she took a deep breath before saying, "No, Sawyer. We still have to go. Tomorrow is an important day in Grandma’s life; we must be there. I can’t imagine her being alone. Please..." Her eyes became blurry, pleading with him earnestly.
Although Sawyer didn’t say anything, the worry in his eyes was unmistakable.
"I know you’re worried about me, but we can manage this, Sawyer. I’ll do my best to feel better tomorrow. Maybe you could ask Aaron to get me some med...?" she suggested.
Sawyer smiled resignedly, gently stroking her cheek. "Okay, but if you get sick, we’ll head home. I’m sure Grandma Sophie and Grandpa Philips will understand..."
"Deal!" Abigail finally felt relieved. "Oh, right. They asked us to come earlier. What do you think?"
"It doesn’t matter what time we get there. But you should get ready because you’ll be meeting his family..." Sawyer warned her.
Abigail chuckled, seeing Sawyer’s face turn tense and dark.
"You mean we’re going to meet his granddaughter, Serena?" she asked playfully, trying to tease him.
Sawyer shook his head slowly. "No, I’m not worried about you meeting her. I know she won’t easily provoke you. However, I do worry about you meeting her father and mother. They can be a bit manipulative..."
Abigail was a little stunned. She had completely forgotten about them because she had thought only about Serena and nothing else. Nodding slowly, she said, "Don’t worry, I trust Grandpa, and you will take care of me, right?"
"Without a doubt!"
