Chapter 298: Regret (3)

"There are no guards here. Your son has ruined the palace just as you ruined it when you ruled. Know that your death is a result of your actions regarding my daughter. Seraphina was innocent," Zephyr said, pushing the sword down into Dorian’s chest.

He could not wait a second longer in case Dorian regained his strength and there would be a long chase around the palace to catch Dorian. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

Dorian grabbed the sword sticking out of his chest. It was painful, like his body had caught fire.

Where had Zephyr come from now? Where was he all those years ago?

Had Dorian known Zephyr was still around, he would have questioned him too.

"You!" Dorian spat, blood dripping from his mouth.

Just a little longer, and he would rise to kill these men, then find his incompetent son, who didn’t know how to properly guard a room.

Dorian tried to pull the sword out of his chest. "You should have let her come to my side, but you foolishly thought it was best for her to be with a Harrison over me. No matter what, we shall find your secrets. We will find them and take them for ourselves."

Dorian was still certain that the Everharts were hiding something big, and it was so big that it wasn’t going to stay a secret forever.

"Killing me isn’t going to stop the others from finding out what that secret is. We’re going to get our hands on it even if we have to slaughter your entire family," said Dorian.

Zephyr placed his hand on the sword again, pushing it down to ruin Dorian’s efforts to pull it out.

Dorian’s eyes squeezed shut, his groans filling the room. Zephyr should have been long killed for having a holy weapon in his possession. Only the palace or the five families should have these weapons in their possession, since they were so dangerous.

Dorian looked at Orlork as the one responsible for Zephyr getting away with what he was doing. He always knew that the Blackthorns would be the family to betray everyone else.

"You are a traitor. You are one of us, yet you are helping him to kill a royal. You must help us to find what secrets the Everharts hold and kill them for what he has done to me. Why are you helping him?" Dorian asked, curious as to what he missed during his slumber.

Was Darius still king?

"I never agreed to go digging around into anyone’s secrets, and we’re not sheep. The Blackthorns do not need to join in on what everyone else does with their time. Besides, we are family now," Orlork said, managing to upset Zephyr and Dorian at the same time.

Dorian wasn’t happy to hear that Zephyr had allowed someone from the Blackthorns to marry into his family when he had been so difficult when it came to Seraphina. This all could have been avoided had Zephyr not been against his advances to Seraphina.

Dorian laughed, which soon turned into a coughing fit with more blood flowing out of his mouth.

Zephyr yanked the sword back, creating a bigger wound before he finally pulled the sword out of Dorian. They didn’t have much time left to be here without getting caught.

Zephyr closed the coffin, letting Dorian be in darkness in his final moments. The scent of blood filled the room, so anyone who walked in would know there was death here.

Orlork took a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the blood that dripped on the floor. "You will need to clean that off until it is spotless, but don’t do it at your home. Run elsewhere to take those who will hunt you on another path. Zephyr?" He called, noticing Zephyr’s attention on the other coffins.

"You will kill all of them? Even the ones who had no part in his plans?" Orlork asked, followed by small knocks coming from inside Dorian’s coffin.

Zephyr gripped the sword.

He thought about killing everyone else who laid here so the palace would know how it felt to have something taken from you.

Seraphina was still alive, but in a way, they had taken his daughter from him, and he wanted to repay that feeling with double what he experienced.

In the end, Zephyr left the room without killing anyone else. He had gotten what he came for, and that was enough for now. He had to return to let his daughter know that the former king was now dead, and he looked forward to seeing Selene.

The one issue they would have now was that Zephyr knew the Everharts were still lurking around the town, wanting to take Selene and Seraphina back to their home since their secret was almost out.

Upon leaving the room, Zephyr noticed the guards from earlier were still present and no longer moving.

Orlork was so childish at times that Zephyr forgot how powerful he could be.

"’No need to say thank you," Orlork said after noticing the look he received from Zephyr.

"I wasn’t going to thank you," Zephyr replied, proceeding to leave first, only to come across Xavier. "On a night like this, you should be at Selene’s side."

"I have left her where it is safe," Xavier replied, taking a magic stone from his pocket. "The king is dead, so you must get out of here now. Demons are around the town, attached to priests."

"This king in there is dead. I will come with you," Orlork said, following Xavier as he turned to leave.

Zephyr also made his way to leave the palace and headed in the opposite direction of his home to get rid of the blood on the sword.

Zephyr slipped out of the palace before any guards could see him and question who he was. He had killed many for the night and now wanted to rest.

He travelled far out of the palace, away from all the chaos of homes burning and humans running to get away from vampires. It was going to be a long night for everyone else.

Zephyr stood before a small stream where he washed the blood off the sword. Many years ago, when he took this sword from the humans using it for all the wrong reasons, he never thought he would use it like this to kill a royal pureblood.

Zephyr found more relief in knowing that Darius was dead, so Selene wouldn’t face what her mother did. She wouldn’t have some crazy king after her.

Zephyr continued to wash the sword while listening to the person trying to creep up on him.

"We must speak, Zephyr. You failed to inform us about your daughter and granddaughter."

Zephyr stood when the sword was free of blood, but there was a chance he would have to kill someone again.
