Chapter 313: Reunited (4)

"Was that meant to be a threat, or were you telling me a joke?" Xavier asked, uncertain of what Thomas was doing.

"It was a threat. I said that I would kill you if anything ever happened to my daughter. How could it not be a threat?" Thomas asked.

"The tone you said it in wasn’t convincing," Xavier explained, ignoring Thomas to keep an eye on Selene. "You don’t need to threaten me. Should I put it in writing to pass out among all of you that I will not harm her?"

Zephyr kept himself busy with a glass of blood, which helped him feel better after being out in the sun.

"I had to say it at least once," said Thomas. "I’m glad that we understand each other."

Xavier stayed silent to let Thomas think that he had threatened him. He found Thomas to be funny more than scary. Thomas fit how Selene described her father to be when no one was watching.

"You are two fools," Zephyr said, setting the empty glass down. "That is why they are both watching us and laughing. I have already told him to treat her well, and he promised, so let us move on from it. I would like to send you both away and be with only those two."

"Welcome to the family," Thomas said, offering Xavier a glass of wine.

Instead of continuing to question Xavier, Thomas liked that he had someone who understood just how grumpy Zephyr could get concerning Seraphina and Selene.

"You will need lots of wine," Thomas said, grabbing the bottle.

"When will you be leaving? I can escort Selene here for another day. I’m sure they would both like that," Xavier said, watching intently as Selene spoke with her mother.

"We were going to leave tomorrow night. We must leave soon to have all the Everharts here return with us before they can speak to Selene," said Thomas.

"How will you stop their curiosity about him still being alive? They will assume it is either you, Seraphina, or Selene. If they come questioning Selene, I will kill them. Ripping their heads off has never failed me," Xavier said, giving an early warning.

"I shall take care of it. There will be no one coming to question Selene, but if they are foolish enough to slip away to find her, I will personally kill them. As far as they are concerned, Selene didn’t inherit the family talent. It is not impossible," Zephyr said.

There were many purebloods born without the talents their families possessed.

"Seraphina and I never spoke of seeing any signs that Selene was like the Everharts. Unless Selene is cut, there is no way for them to find out. We will all take care of it so they don’t come to you," Thomas promised.

Once they leave, Thomas hoped that it would be the last Xavier and Selene ever had to hear about the Everharts.

"About your father, must I kill him? Is his dislike of Selene to the point I must worry about him?" Thomas asked, unable to get his mind off Nathaniel.

"My father fails to get close to Selene, and even if he were to succeed, he will never be able to convince me to leave her. Besides, if he must die, then I will not let you steal that moment from me. For the last time, there is nothing to be concerned about," Xavier said, handing Thomas back the glass.

Xavier was bored with the talk he had about the dangers around them. He had been concerned with their enemies for a long time, so all he wanted was a day when he could focus only on Selene, but her family would not allow it.

Xavier understood very well that they wanted to know Selene would be well once they left, but they needed to start trusting him. He had kept Selene safe when they were not around, and he would do it again.

"Have the men bore you with their talk?" Seraphina asked when Xavier came over. "You’ll have to excuse them. Killing someone is on both their minds, but they both know Selene is in good hands."

"Why must I be in good hands? I am learning how to fight using a weapon. In time, I will be able to defend myself," Selene said, confident in her skills.

"You have been teaching her," Seraphina said to Xavier. "Why do I get the feeling that you are mostly teaching her how to hold a weapon, but you don’t intend to ever have her need to defend herself. You will always be with a guard, like you said, Selene."

"It is still good for her to know how to properly hold a weapon," Xavier replied.

Selene couldn’t believe her ears. "You were not teaching me to become a good fighter?"

"I was teaching you how to use a weapon like you asked. If you ever got separated from Lucas, which should never happen, you would know how to defend yourself. I am not teaching you to the point where you can go around killing anyone. It is not you," Xavier said, knowing she couldn’t bring herself to kill anyone.

Selene pinched Xavier’s hand. It was noticed by Seraphina, who found it interesting.

"I didn’t let your father teach you how to use a weapon. When you were younger, you couldn’t hurt a fly. It is not bad that you have guards around you to do all of the fighting. Besides, unless the situation was urgent, you should avoid a fight," said Seraphina.

A fight presented a chance for Selene to get injured and reveal their secret.

"I am fine with that part. I thought I was becoming good with my training, only to hear that I am at the basics. Would you like something sweet to eat? Xavier doesn’t care for the food humans eat," Selene informed her mother.

"It is common. We have always enjoyed sitting around a table with food after a long day. Some of the food is always tasty, so we thought of it as a treat. You may just have the blood," Seraphina said, not minding that Xavier didn’t want to eat.

He wasn’t the first pureblood who had no interest in it.

"He isn’t fond of it, but he will still sit for dinner with me. I have started to bake again, so we eat what I make more than dinner. I didn’t want our tradition of sitting together after dinner to stop," said Selene.

"It won’t stop," Xavier said, sitting down beside Selene. freewebnøvel.coɱ

He didn’t care about the food, but he did enjoy the conversations they had at dinner.
