Chapter 181: The Return of The Healer, The Puppy, And The Knight

Ray flexed his arm, testing it, and nodded. "...Thank you."

Xion grinned in response. However, his white sheet-like face with that smile looked almost eerie in the darkness.

Ray was against his treatment mainly because of Xion’s own health. His arm could be treated by Allen, but what if Xion got hurt in the process?

Just as he was worrying about the healer’s well-being, Noxian was already dragging the healer away.

Ray shook his head before joining them.

Xion had a strange talent for gathering weirdos.

His Grace was one of those people, and so was Noxian.

Ray was not blind to those signs. Albeit Noxian was a child, his temperament was very similar to those special humans.

These types of people often had different moral compasses than normal humans, but they were also excellent weapons if trained properly. That was why Berry had taken Noxian in.

And let’s not forget that hedonistic prince, Nikolai.

If he somehow ignored them all, there were still those idiots, Soren and Klein.

Ray would very much like to argue that Klein was actually much better off than Soren, though. At least he was in peace now.

The heir to the Marquis Vaelis, on the other hand, was in grave danger. It was his fault for offending someone he should not have.

From their position, they could already see the silhouette of the tents peeking from the long trees. Even when they were so close, there were no loud noises.

The battle had left the entire camp in ruins.

Xion finally could not hold back. "How is he?"

Ray’s shoulders stiffened slightly before he relaxed. He didn’t need to ask who he was.

The knight hesitated. Nonetheless, there was no benefit in hiding it, especially from Xion.

"His Grace is not doing well."

Xion’s lips pressed into a thin line.

Darius had already been in a weak state before the battle. After fighting through an entire army of orcs? The fact that he was even alive was a miracle.

Xion exhaled. "Is it because of his mana?"

Ray nodded. "Yes. His Grace is getting weaker."

They no longer rushed back — not because they didn’t want to, but because they simply couldn’t. None of them had the strength to do so.

Xion, though naturally pale, was now almost ghostly white. His face was slick with sweat, his breathing came in uneven gasps.

Ray had long since noticed it, and so had Noxian. Both of them silently flocked to Xion from both sides, ready to give him support whenever he needed to.

Ray had so many questions rearing their heads. He was a knight after all. And battle was something he was much more familiar with than anything else.

He really wanted to ask Xion how he managed to attract those Orcs away. How had he run so fast? And what about that explosion?

Even someone of his caliber would not be able to make it out alive after something that violent.

Xion had none of the burn marks. Sure there were ashes smudged on him everywhere, and there were slight burn marks at the edge of his robe.

But other than that, Xion was fine. At least he didn’t look like charred meat.

However, Ray could not ask something like that. Mana was a very private thing — especially for someone like Xion, who was using it to heal others.

He had no right to pry, not when Xion was already pushing himself so hard for them.

Still, when the healer swayed slightly, Ray instinctively reached out, ready to steady him.

Yet before he could take action, Noxian grabbed Xion’s arm first. Even if he was short and only reached Xion’s waist, he still had enough strength to support his brother.

Xion glanced down, then chuckled softly. Instead of brushing him off, he simply wrapped his arm around Noxian’s shoulders.

"Mind helping me until we go back?"

Of course, Noxion would not mind. More than that, he was excited. This was the first time Brother Xion had taken the initiative to ask his help in such a serious situation.

He subtly glanced at the silent knight and the corner of his chapped lips could not help but rise along with his mood.

"Of course," he puffed out his chest, and raised his heels, trying his best to appear taller, "I definitely won’t let you fall."

Xion laughed. His pale face gained some color under Noxian’s cuteness.

Ray silently took his hand back and swallowed the words of worry. He hated those who were all talk and no actions. Before he realized he had become such a person.

How stupid of me.

Ray might have continued to curse his shameless behavior if not for the more important things to work on.

Thinking about it all, he finally forced himself to ask the question that had been gnawing at him the entire time.

"Do you think ... His Grace can be saved? Is there any hope for him or ..."

He couldn’t bring himself to say the second part.

Or will he die?

Xion looked at him for a long moment.

Then, slowly, he smiled. "He won’t," Xion said softly.

He answered the silent question first, attempting to put Ray at ease.

"I won’t let him die. Not before he lives a long life and experiences everything he’s missed."

Ray stilled, and so did Xion.

Noxian stared at both of them, not knowing if he should drag his brother away from Sir Ray, who was still talking about the archduke.

But brother likes good people. So, Noxian pretended to be obedient, silently protecting the one who was precious to him.

Xion, unaware of the little movement of Noxian’s abacus, continued.

"If I say I have a solution," he tilted his head slightly, staring at those baby blue eyes widening at his words. "What will you do, Sir Knight Captain?"

Just as his words fell, Ray didn’t hesitate to act.

He dropped to the ground. His knee hit the ground so hard that Xion winced reflexively.

But Ray did not care about such trivial things.

With his head bowed in full submission he raised his sword resting on his hands. It was as if he was offering his sword to Xion.

It was a sign of respect, and willingness to submit completely.

"If you save him..." Ray’s throat tightened. "My life is yours to take."
