Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Interview
Aurora found a practice website meant for beginners to try hacking legally.
It had simple challenges like finding hidden files or guessing passwords.
........
In the mechanic’s car shop.
All the workers were gathered. Today, the CEO of the shop was going to make an appearance.
The mysterious CEO who rarely showed his face.
Everyone was curious. Even Adam.
After all, for him, the CEO was a kind person who would give out extra bonuses to him every year.
Even Adam didn’t know why he received such special care.
Hence, he was curious.
The door creaks open, and everyone turns silent. An old man walked in slowly, looking like he was in his early 80s.
His hair was white and thin, but his smile was warm and welcoming. His eyes sparkled with kindness.
"Good morning, everyone," the CEO said, his voice calm but firm. "I am Charles Hughes, the CEO and founder of this company. I’m happy to see all of you here today."
He looked around, his gaze gentle and friendly.
"I’ve been running this shop for a very long time. But I don’t have a son or daughter to pass it on to. So, I’ve made a decision."
Everyone held their breath.
"I plan to hand over the shop to one of you," the CEO continued.
"Anyone can apply for the position. And I will personally interview each of you to decide who is most suitable."
The workers exchanged surprised glances.
This was something they had never heard before. Murmurs spread like wildfire.
"I will begin the interviews now," the CEO said. "I hope to hear from all of you." With that, he gave them a friendly nod and walked to his office, leaving everyone in shock.
After the CEO went back to his office, the whole place was buzzing with excitement. Everyone was talking about the announcement.
Some were already planning how they’d impress Mr. Hughes during the interview, while others were still processing the news.
Adam Waters couldn’t help but smile. It felt unreal.
He had never thought about running the shop before, but now that the opportunity was right in front of him, he felt a strange excitement building up.
Mike was still hyped. "Man, Adam, you totally got this! I mean, come on, who else knows this place better than you?"
Adam chuckled.
"Well, I guess I do know a lot about fixing cars. But being the boss? That’s a whole different story."
Mike waved his hand dismissively.
"Nah, you’re a natural leader. Plus, you’ve got years of experience. The CEO would be lucky to have someone like you in charge."
Adam Waters couldn’t help but feel a bit proud. He knew he wasn’t the most ambitious guy, but he always put his heart into his work.
Meanwhile, Adam Price was listening to their conversation from a few feet away, pretending to be busy with a car engine.
His jaw clenched a little. It bothered him how everyone seemed to think that old-timer had a chance.
In his mind, the shop needed someone young, energetic, and full of new ideas. Someone like him. Not some guy stuck in his old ways.
He took a deep breath and put on his charming smile before walking over to Adam Waters and Mike.
"You’re really aiming for the position too, huh?" Adam Price asked casually.
Adam Waters shrugged. "I guess. I mean, why not? It’s a big opportunity."
Adam Price gave a small, tight-lipped smile.
"Yeah, it sure is. Well, good luck. You know, running a business is more than just fixing cars. It takes leadership and innovation."
Mike narrowed his eyes a little.
"Adam Waters has been here longer than anyone. If anyone knows how this place works, it’s him."
Adam Price just laughed lightly.
"Of course. I’m just saying that the world’s changing fast. Sometimes, it takes a younger mind to keep up. Anyway, good luck."
He walked away, his smile fading the moment he turned his back on them.
Adam Waters scratched his head, a bit confused by the comment. Mike huffed.
"That guy thinks just because he’s young, he’s got it all figured out."
Adam gave a small, thoughtful nod.
"Maybe he’s right. I mean, I’m not exactly a kid anymore."
Mike scoffed.
"Don’t let him get in your head. You’ve worked hard all these years. You deserve a shot."
Adam took a deep breath. Maybe Mike was right.
Everyone was nervous but also excited. Mr. Hughes was sitting in his office, ready to talk to each worker one by one.
The line outside his office stretched long.
People were whispering to each other, sharing tips or trying to guess what Mr. Hughes would ask.
One by one, the workers went in and came out looking either relieved or disappointed. Some muttered about how hard the questions were.
Others just looked lost in thought.
Finally, it was Adam’s turn.
He took a deep breath and stepped into the office. Mr. Hughes looked up and smiled warmly.
"Ah, Adam Waters. Please, have a seat."
Adam sat down, feeling a bit stiff. The room was quiet and neat, with papers neatly stacked on the desk. Mr. Hughes’s kind eyes made him feel a little more relaxed.
"So, Adam, you’ve been with us for a long time," Mr. Hughes began. "Tell me, why do you want to run this shop?"
Adam hesitated for a moment, then spoke honestly.
"I... I’ve been working here for over 3 years, sir, and have experience of more than 20 years. I know this place like the back of my hand.
I care about it. And I care about everyone who works here. I want to keep things running smoothly and help the shop grow."
Mr. Hughes nodded, looking pleased.
"I see. And what would you do to improve the shop if you were in charge?"
Adam thought about it.
"Well, I’d try to make sure everyone feels heard. I’d ask the workers for their ideas, try to improve the working conditions, and maybe bring in some new tools to make our jobs easier.
Also, I’d try to bring in more customers by offering special deals and good service."
