First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 2092 - A Battleship Soars Through the Starry Void
Chapter 2092 - A Battleship Soars Through the Starry Void
Buddhist Son Lian Sheng refused without the slightest hesitation. He didn’t even pause to think.
“Even if I lose, and even if I die, I absolutely refuse to share those three legacies with an outsider.” Lian Sheng said gravely. “If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to test me.”
Su Yi flipped his palm, and the Godhead he’d just acquired floated into the air. “What if I offered to trade you this?”
Lian Sheng’s gaze focused, but he nonetheless staunchly refused. “I won’t trade!”
Su Yi smiled. “You really do have backbone.”
He put away the Epoch Fragment, then turned to leave. “Come on, I’ll lead you out of here.”
Lian Sheng froze, a bit caught off guard. He’d assumed that Su Yi would seize this opportunity to kill him, but no such thing occurred.
“If you’re trying to make me owe you a favor, or if you think that this will change my opinion of you, you’re deeply, utterly mistaken!” Lian Sheng caught up to Su Yi and calmly made himself clear.
“Relax. Not long ago, I would have been interested in duking it out with a Heaven’s Chosen like you,” Su Yi said distractedly. “But now, even knowing that you’re Ol’ Dipankara’s closed-door disciple, I have no interest in killing you.”
Lian Sheng found this surprising. “Why?”
“Every debt has its debtor. My enemy is your master, not you,” Su Yi said casually. “I hate nothing more than when the innocent are implicated in my enmities.”
Lian Sheng furrowed his brow in obvious disbelief. “My master has targeted you on numerous occasions over the years. He set his sights on you while you were still in the Human Realm. You... really aren’t at all interested in revenge?”
He was the Dipankara Buddha’s closed-door disciple, so he knew everything that his master had done full well.
“I said it already. Even if I want to get revenge, I’ll seek it against your master. As for you... Honestly, I really can’t be bothered to kill you.”
Lian Sheng suddenly felt like his dignity and Dao Heart were under attack.
Who was he? He was one of Heaven’s Chosen, a natural-born Buddhist son whom every Buddhist cultivator was paying attention to. He was born blessed with good fortune, and countless top experts of the Buddhist way had high hopes for him.
He’d ceased to take others of the same generation into account a long time ago. It was only when Su Yi appeared that this unparalleled Heaven’s Chosen felt that he might have a worthy opponent!
He would never have guessed that when he actually interacted with Su Yi, he’d learn that Su Yi didn’t take him at all seriously. And the most frustrating part was that Su Yi really had the strength and status to justify this disregard!
“I get it. In your eyes, I’m just a junior. Only someone like my master is really worthy of being your opponent,” murmured Lian Sheng.
This discovery came as a massive shock, and he couldn’t help but feel an indescribable sense of defeat.
The one he’d once thought of as the only worthy opponent among his contemporaries saw him as a junior. Su Yi couldn’t even be bothered to bully him.
This was far, far more hurtful than humiliating him!
“Your master must have sent you into the Path of the Ancient Gods with instructions to acquire the Epoch Spark. Only then can you fuse the unparalleled sutras of the past, present, and future into one after achieving divinity,” Su Yi said suddenly. “I’m sure you prepared several countermeasures and killer weapons against me?”
“That’s right,” Lian Sheng said with a nod.
“Why not use them?” Su Yi asked with great interest.
“I’m afraid my master had no idea that you have another, even more mysterious identity here in the Path of the Ancient Gods,” said Lian Sheng. “Otherwise, he would have told me to stay as far away from you as possible. He would never have sent me to fight you.”
When Lian Sheng recalled what he’d just seen and what he'd been told before, he didn’t even need to think to know that his master had no idea about Su Yi’s other past life!
“You really are honest,” smiled Su Yi.
Lian Sheng, “Starting at a young age, I spent one hundred years in silent meditation before finally tempering a Buddhist Heart of supreme purity. I haven’t told a single lie since.”
Su Yi nodded. “Not bad. Honest advice is grating to the ears, and good medicine is bitter. With a Buddhist Heart like that, you won’t let the dust of falsehoods cloud the mirror of your heart. Your future accomplishments are inestimable!”
Lian Sheng fell silent. He felt conflicted. Su Yi spoke like a senior complimenting a junior, yet somehow, it was hard for Lian Sheng to find fault with that.
“That Epoch Fragment contained a portion of that old-timer’s will. Earlier, I thought that you’d have been seriously hurt had you fallen for his trick,” said Su Yi between sips of wine. “But now, it seems I worried for nothing. With your Buddhist Heart, the old man had no hope of possessing you.”
Lian Sheng looked a bit uncomfortable. He wasn’t used to hearing Su Yi compliment him like this; it felt far too strange.
This was his master’s irreconcilable enemy, yet here he was, laughing and chatting with him. He’d even praised him repeatedly, without the slightest of reservations. There was just... no way to describe it.
“You needn’t overthink this,” Su Yi laughed and shook his head. “I admire you, but that doesn’t mean I’m trying to rope you in or change you. It might be rude to say this, but even if you think of me as an enemy you must kill, you can’t do me any harm.”
Lian Sheng furrowed his brow. “You... really think I can’t threaten you at all?”
Su Yi asked right back, “If you have means of hurting me, why haven’t I sensed any murderous intent from you yet?”
Lian Sheng’s pupils silently constricted.
Su Yi laughed and said no more on the matter. He was now completely focused on how he’d go about defeating Greater Gods; how could he possibly concern himself with a Heaven’s Chosen yet to achieve divinity?
In the end, Lian Sheng couldn’t help but ask, “But why not kill me to seize the sutras of the past, present, and future?”
He couldn’t lie, and he wasn’t good at hiding anything. He was direct and to the point; that was just his nature.
“I’m not your master,” said Su Yi, his eyes shining with mockery. “And I disdain to imitate him.”
Lian Sheng froze, stunned, but he quickly understood.
His master, the Dipankara Buddha, had schemed to acquire the power of reincarnation on numerous occasions, attacking Su Yi ruthlessly. He wasn’t the least bit concerned about bullying those weaker than him.
But Su Yi was obviously different. At the very least... he disdained acting against a junior. He wouldn’t attack a junior he had no grudge with just to steal his legacies. Perhaps it was just as he said: he hated nothing more than when the innocent were swept into his enmities
Lian Sheng’s expression shifted erratically at the thought of it. By comparison, his master...
He suddenly felt uncomfortable, and his expression shifted dramatically. “Are you... Are you trying to ruin my Buddhist Heart!?”
Su Yi took a deep, hard look at him, “If you can disregard all that, it naturally won’t impact your Buddhist Heart. Don’t Buddhists have a saying like that? ‘If it doesn’t exist in the first place, how can it gather dust?’”
Lian Sheng fell silent, then took a deep breath, clasped his palms together, and bowed. “You’re right. Thank you for enlightening me!”
His eyes were as calm as the waters of an ancient well. He’d completely calmed down.
Su Yi chuckled. “I’m actually a little bit eager. What’ll it look like if you can really fuse the legacies of the past, present, and future?”
With that, he continued ahead, saying no more. Lian Sheng really is a natural-born Buddhist Son, with innate wisdom and a pure heart. But precisely because of that, someone like him won’t be happy to retread his master’s old path. He’s even likely to found a temple of his own! Only then will Lian Sheng’s achievements truly surpass his master's, and only then will he escape a life in his master’s shadow.
I’d just love to see that happen.
Just as they were about to leave the hidden realm, Su Yi turned to face Lian Sheng. “If you can block this attack, I won’t take you hostage. If you can’t, well, I’m afraid you’ll have to suffer for a bit.”
Lian Sheng was stunned, but Su Yi was already attacking.
It was a simple punch, natural and plain, like an ordinary mortal swinging his fist through the air. It was even a bit crude.
But when Lian Sheng saw it, his heart skipped a beat, and his vital energy shook as if intimidated. Even his soul was under unprecedented pressure.
What kind of punch is that?
Heaven and earth collapsed in front of this strike, and neither time nor space could fetter it. Nothing could block it.
No matter where he fled, he couldn’t escape it. It was as if it had the power to bear through everything in its path and break through the ages!
It seemed that even if every Grand Dao of the heavens stood in its way, this punch would grind them all away!
A chill coursed down Lian Sheng’s spine. His vital energy stagnated, and his heart and soul seemed like they’d collapse.
But then, Su Yi lowered his fist and said, “Come with me.”
He turned and left the hidden realm.
Lian Sheng fell briefly silent, then let out a deep sigh and did as he was told. Victory and defeat were unstated, yet painfully clear.
......
The outside world.
When they saw Su Yi arrive with Lian Sheng, the gods’ expressions shifted inscrutably. Just as we thought. Lian Sheng was defeated, too!
Buddhist Venerate Ghama’s expression darkened, and his eyes glinted with murderous intent, but at the same time, when he confirmed that Lian Sheng was alive and well, he sighed in relief.
Lian Sheng was alive. Nothing else mattered. Buddhist Venerate Ghama had no idea how he’d have reported to the Dipankara Buddha if Lian Sheng died!
“Martial Uncle Ghama, I lost, and am now Fellow Daoist Su’s hostage.” Lian Sheng clasped his palms.
Ghama looked at him with a complex mix of emotions. “Rest assured. I’ll bring you back alive and unharmed!”
He spoke with staunch assurance.
Lian Sheng said calmly, “I naturally have means of breaking free, but I won’t use them unless my life is in danger.”
“????” The crowd was gobsmacked. How could you just say something like that? If Su Yi knows, he’s sure to be on guard!
But Su Yi smiled. This was Lian Sheng: a Buddhist who never lied.
“Su Yi, you agreed to release the hostages when you left the Deification Star Sea. If you dare renege on this promise, I swear to make you pay, even if it costs me my life!” Buddhist Venerate Ghama said gravely.
Su Yi directly ignored this threat. He just used a spatial ability called “a World in My Sleeve,” and said to Lian Sheng, “Go in here for now.”
Lian Sheng didn’t resist. He blurred into a beam of light, then shot into the space of a World in My Sleeve.
Su Yi then turned and was about to leave when he saw an enormous black battleship headed his way!
The battleship crushed the starry void, shattering one star after another. It was like a divine mountain in motion, crushing everything in its path as if it were made of rotten wood. The countless stars filling the void audibly quivered.
Su Yi’s brow furrowed.
The gods were surprised too.
Who's that?
