Chapter 345: Chapter 345: A Kiss as Compensation

After leaving Minister Ray’s office, Serena Summers curiously looked at Adrian Holt, "When did you send someone to search for the organization’s base? How come I didn’t know?"

Adrian Holt explained with a light laugh, "A few days ago, I privately ordered Brandon Reese to do it."

When he first met Brandon Reese, he thought the guy was unreliable and even doubted his own judgment from before.

But unexpectedly, Brandon Reese was efficient, meticulous in his thinking, and highly effective in his work.

In his own words, it was "value for money."

Serena nodded in agreement, "He truly is a capable aide. During the two years you were away, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to the company and made many sacrifices."

Adrian Holt’s hand on the steering wheel paused slightly, and a shade of gloom flickered in his eyes.

It was his fault...

His Serena shouldn’t have had to go through all this.

A strong sense of guilt grew in his heart, and Adrian Holt became even more determined to treat Serena Summers doubly well.

He couldn’t turn back time, so he would only become stronger.

No matter what the future held, he would never leave again.

After some thought, Adrian Holt suddenly made a U-turn and drove in another direction.

Surprised, Serena looked out the window, "Where are we going?"

"You’ll know when we get there." Adrian Holt kept her in suspense and sped up the car.

About fifteen minutes later, the car stopped in front of a building.

He unbuckled his seat belt, got out of the car, and said to Serena beside him, "Come on down, we’re almost there."

With curiosity in tow, Serena followed him all the way up to the top floor.

After the elevator doors opened, Adrian Holt led Serena Summers down a long corridor, where all the decor had completely changed.

This corridor was long, more like a connection between two buildings.

At the end of the corridor, there was a door with a high-tech feel. Standing before the screen, Adrian Holt entered through facial recognition.

By the looks of it, this was probably a technology company.

"Follow me." ƒreewebɳovel.com

Adrian Holt took Serena’s hand and led her inside, into an office.

To Serena’s surprise, the decor here was exactly the same as the CEO office at Shaw Group, not just the layout but even the color scheme.

Serena’s gaze swept around the room and finally came to rest on the balcony.

There was a white lounge chair placed there.

Suddenly a memory flashed through Serena’s mind.

Back when she and Lucas Shaw had just gotten married, he especially liked to take her to the Shaw Group.

Each time Lucas Shaw was busy with paperwork in his office, she would comfortably lie on the sofa, reading or sleeping.

Sometimes when Lucas Shaw was tired from his paperwork, he would pull her to the lounge chair on the balcony to bask in the sun.

Surprised, Serena asked, "How come this is here? Weren’t you suffering from memory loss?"

Adrian Holt sat down in front of the rocking chair and, stretching out his long arms, pulled Serena onto his lap.

"Actually, during the renovation, I couldn’t understand why I insisted on placing a lounge chair here until that day when I saw a similar setup at our home. That was when I realized that some memories can be easily altered, but habits cannot," he said with emotion.

Even if memories were erased, those habits engraved in his bones were always there.

Like the need for a lounge chair on the balcony, her favorite kind.

And like... loving her with everything he’s got.

Serena Summers wrapped her arms around his neck, looking disdainfully at the lounge chair he was sitting on.

"It’s not as nice as the one I chose."

The one she had chosen was very delicate and pretty, and also very comfortable to lie on.

This one... just average.

The surface was bare, it wasn’t at all soft to sit on, and it was even pure white, without a hint of pattern or decoration.

The aesthetic of a certain Mr. Straight Guy was really... beyond words.

"You’re being picky now?"

Adrian Holt chuckled, his fingers curling to tap gently on her smooth forehead.

"It’s obviously ugly, straight guy aesthetics really can’t be trusted easily."

Serena covered her forehead in pain, bowing her head forcefully, her chin hitting his forehead as payback.

Adrian Holt sucked in a breath from the pain, "Hiss... quite some strength there."

On hearing this, Serena quickly lowered her head to check his injury, "Did I hurt you? Let me see."

But just as she lowered her head, Adrian Holt suddenly lifted his chin and kissed her lips briefly.

"Mmm, a kiss as compensation then."

"You tricked me!" Serena wanted to hit him.

Not only had she been deceived, she had been taken advantage of. How had she never noticed before that he could be so cunning?

Adrian Holt grabbed her slender, fair wrist, his deep eyes filled with a galaxy of stars.

With his lips slightly upturned, he claimed righteously, "What I did is called all’s fair in war."

After saying that, he wrapped an arm around Serena’s delicate waist and used the other to cup the back of her head to deepen the kiss.

The back of the lounge chair tilted with Adrian’s leaning back motion, and Serena was held by him, assuming an intimate posture against Adrian’s body.

Serena felt so weak from his kiss, the hands placed on his chest softened, initially managing to prop herself up, but in the end, she completely collapsed onto him.

From behind, the position was very suggestive.

Serena frowned, wanting to struggle, but he held her tightly, "Keep wriggling, and I can’t guarantee something else won’t happen."

His mention of "something else" instantly brought back memories of last night to Serena’s mind, and her cheeks flushed with blood.

She quickly stopped moving and took the chance to catch her breath, then glared at him coyly, "Can’t you control yourself a bit?"

Lazing back in the rocking chair, Adrian raised his eyebrows upon hearing this, a bold and unrestrained smile on his face.

"Can you really control such things simply because you say so? I’m no paragon of chastity."

Serena was stunned, trying to shake off Adrian’s hand, "Then let me down, you cool off by yourself."

"Fine."

Adrian knew if this continued, it would be even more torturous for him, so he let go of her quite readily this time.

In the span of two years, the business had developed fairly well and had gained some renown domestically.

Serena nodded in understanding without asking further.

At this moment, she suddenly felt that Adrian Holt losing his memory was not entirely a bad thing.

At least everything he does now is for her, without considering the feelings of others.

This version of him was truly living freely.

The office quieted down for a while, and Serena walked back in front of Adrian.

"Can you tell me about what’s happened in these two years? Or... what memories they’ve fabricated for you?"
