Chapter 65 - The New Castle in the Disputed Lands

In the Disputed Lands, a newly erected grey-white castle stood tall, with banners fluttering in the sky. Grey-white wolfpack banners, the Free Army's broken shackles banners, and now, the additional black banners with red dragons.

When the Wolfpack and the Free Army had already occupied the majority of the Disputed Lands and Myr, Gendry was more accustomed to living near the old Powder Keg Manor.

After reconstruction and relocation, a brand-new "Wolf's Den" was built. Surrounding it were ditches lined with sharp spikes, and inside stood sturdy walls and white towers.

"Illyrio says these are dragon eggs from the Shadow Lands east of Asshai, fossilized over millions of years but still bright and beautiful!" In the garden of Wolf's Den Castle, Daenerys said to Gendry.

"It's indeed a priceless gift, but the fat man didn't give it for free!" The fat man had given up Daenerys and her brother, and in return, Gendry had given him some gifts—gold and products from Myr.

Gendry looked at the dragon eggs, or rather, the fossils. A cedar chest adorned with bronze was open, filled with the finest velvet and brocade from the Free Cities... and on top lay three large eggs.

Daenerys looked at the dragon eggs with curiosity. They were the most beautiful things she had ever seen. The three eggs had different appearances, their patterns so rich that she thought they were encrusted with jewels, and she needed both hands to hold one.

Daenerys carefully picked one up, expecting it to be made of fine porcelain, glazed pottery, or glass, but it was much heavier, as if made of solid stone. The eggshell was covered with tiny scales that shimmered with a metallic luster in the setting sun as she moved her fingers over them.

One was deep green, with bronze-colored spots appearing as Daenerys turned it; another was pale creamy white with golden stripes; the last was black, like the midnight ocean, yet with vibrant dark red waves and swirls.

"Drogon, Viserion, Rhaegal," Gendry thought, the gears of Daenerys' destiny beginning to turn.

"I will treasure them forever!" Daenerys had heard rumors about dragon eggs but had never seen them with her own eyes, let alone had the chance to behold them.

"May I take a closer look?" Maester Kebab spoke first. As a fugitive maester and advisor, he was also Gendry's mentor and had the right to view the dragon eggs.

"These are the creations of magic, the legacy of the true dragon family. The Targaryens have always guarded them very closely. Even fossilized dragon eggs are worth a fortune!" Maester Kebab walked around the three eggs several times.

"Deep green, bronze, creamy white and gold, black and red—if they were to hatch into dragons, their colors would be similar to the eggs!" Maester Kebab said. "The old legends are true; a dragon often has several colors, and the dragon eggs match the colors of the dragons."

Gendry also knew a bit about this. He, too, had some dragon blood in him.

"But in this age, there probably aren't any live dragon eggs left!" Maester Kebab said regretfully.

"Live dragon eggs?" Daenerys asked in amazement.

"Yes, Princess! If these were live dragon eggs, not even a whole city of Myr would the magister part with them!" Maester Kebab said slowly. "The Targaryens' dragon eggs were always closely guarded, stored in vaults and cellars. Over time, some even turned to fossils."

"Even fossilized dragon eggs, the fat man was still quite generous!" Gendry looked at the fossilized dragon eggs. With these three eggs, he would eventually make the fat man and Varys cry.

The fat man had given him these dragon eggs to ingratiate himself, knowing that fossilized dragon eggs were an irreversible matter.

But the fat man hadn't anticipated two things. First, magic was slowly returning, and the White Walkers had appeared. Magic was on the rise. Second, even fossilized dragon eggs could hatch dragons with the right blood magic stimulation.

"Can my dragon eggs hatch dragons?" Daenerys asked.

"I'm afraid not, Princess!" Maester Kebab replied firmly. "In the past, even fresh live dragon eggs might not have hatched into baby dragons. Let alone fossilized dragon eggs. Once a dragon egg becomes fossilized, it's irreversible!"

"Alright," Daenerys said, a little disappointed.

"Alright, Daenerys, take good care of them! You also need to go to class!" Gendry said to Daenerys.

"Jen! You have to come see me!" Daenerys said expectantly. They were inseparable. Humans always have a bit of admiration for the strong, especially when it comes to a gentle yet powerful and handsome guy.

"Sure!" Gendry nodded.

The guards escorted Daenerys and the dragon eggs away, leaving Maester Kebab and Gendry in the garden.

Gendry no longer needed to hide his identity and appearance. After all, the fat man had already exposed everything! The scandal of his birth was already common knowledge.

"The fat man was so generous as to give me three fossilized dragon eggs. It seems he might have more!"

"Most likely," Maester Kebab said slowly. "Many people say the fat man used to be in the business of smuggling dragon bones. He probably has plenty of sources."

"What about the dragon eggs left by the Targaryens? It seems like they've all disappeared!"

"It is indeed an unsolvable mystery," Maester Kebab said. "The dragonlords left many dragon eggs back then. Even after the dragons went extinct, they conducted many experiments with the remaining eggs. For example, at Summerhall, they used seven dragon eggs at once!"

"But after the Usurper's War, there were no reports of the new dynasty finding those dragon eggs!"

"It would be best to find better dragon eggs, live ones!" Gendry thought. With such dragon eggs, there would be no need to resort to deep blood magic, making things a little less troublesome.

"Dragonstone, the Red Keep, Summerhall—no matter where, I will find those dragon eggs! They belong to me and Daenerys, to my children!"

"Your Highness, the princess is easy to handle. She is very attached to you and very well-behaved. With proper etiquette and knowledge training, she will surely shine in Westeros," Maester Kebab said. "It's Viserys who remains a threat! He is too old, has priority in the line of succession, and has some psychological issues."

"Is Viserys still hanging around the brothel?" Gendry asked.

"Yes! The two Unsullied sent by the fat man are guarding him!" Maester Kebab nodded. "He thinks you haven't kept your promise and hates our soldiers for looking at him like a fool! More importantly, your true parentage has increased his fear and anxiety."

"Let him be! As long as he doesn't bother Daenerys and me," Gendry said contemptuously. If Viserys continued to indulge in debauchery, he would eventually meet his end without Gendry having to lift a finger.

"It was Illyrio who spread the news that I am a bastard!" Gendry said to Maester Kebab.

"It must have been him. Besides the fat man, he also has informants in King's Landing!" Maester Kebab analyzed.

"There is indeed such an informant, and he is very resourceful!"

"The fat man is not our friend, but rather a potential enemy!" The fat man and the Spider used Daenerys as a distraction, with their main support going to someone else!

"These merchants are all the same!" Maester Kebab nodded.

"The fat man's affairs are of little importance. The priority is dealing with the Tyroshi, Lysene, Volantene, and other enemies across the Narrow Sea!!"

"Tyrosh has the Black City and is part of an island chain. Once we blockade it, taking it won't be too difficult!" Maester Kebab thought for a moment. "The key is to consolidate our rule and prevent uprisings from the exiled magisters, which will require a lot of manpower!"
