Chapter 140: 140 A Glimpse of the Scripted Fate.

"Wait". Jin raised his hand and extended it toward Kenji. "You probably know this, but my name is Jin Midnight in this world, formerly Makoto Jin".

Kenji blinked, grasped Jin’s hand, and shook it, nodding in understanding.

"My name is Tojima Kenji in this world, formerly Sagara Hikaru". Kenji released his hand and nodded.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you".

"Pleasured to meet you too".

The room was shrouded in silence; Jin looked toward the glass before him and noticed that Kenji had given him his consent.

Jin took the glass in hand and sipped to moisten his sweetened mouth after gobbling many cookies.

"Can I go first?". Jin glanced at Kenji, who straightened his spine.

"Sure, might as well listen to the significant character first".

He smiled bitterly upon hearing Kenji’s words and started to tell him how Jin had arrived in this world.

A piece of information from his friend borrowing a game, out of the typical everyday scene where he got shot and then snapped from his peaceful dream of having a slow life on his second chance.

Kenji held the glass midair as he was absorbed into Jin’s story.

"So, you didn’t have any knowledge about the story?".

"Yes, I’m afraid so".

Jin held his breath, for he still was not telling everything straight about him possessing a status and quest system that helped him until now.

He wanted to tell Kenji, but his wary side flared up, thinking that it might be wise to keep the things to himself for a bit longer.

At least until he believed that Kenji was on his side.

"That’s rather concerning matter". Kenji rubbed his chin and swept his gaze up and down to observe Jin’s appearance. "Or not?".

"How have you lived until now? How about your parents? Your home?".

"Wait, wait, settle down, please".

Jin raised his hands, trying to stop the fox boy’s barrage of questions.

"Oh yeah, sorry. I was just curious...".

Kenji coughed and sat straight while staring at Jin’s expression.

A heavy feeling weighed down in their chest; Jin exhaled sharply and opened his mouth.

"Kenji, can you at least tell me who Jin Midnight is?".

The fox boy gasped and then closed his mouth, shrugging his shoulders.

Kenji grabbed the glass, letting the water inside stir the same as his heart, and then gulped in one go.

"Jin Midnight was an unfortunate fellow".

"?". Jin tilted his head, unsure of where this conversation was going.

"I will tell you from what I know, Jin was...".

***

A boy was born in the frontier territory of the Eira Kingdom.

He was a cheerful boy, loved by his family and cherished by everyone around him, which made him a kind and caring person.

He was trained in swordsmanship by his father and in magic by his mother.

His unparalleled talent, wisdom, and grit forged him into one of the strongest people in the place.

With his parents being former Mithril-Rank Adventurers, the boy was given considerable freedom and decided to follow in their footsteps.

However, destinies said otherwise as the boy went through his first ordeal in life.

His homeland was wrecked by a monster wave that goes for days without stopping.

Then came a mutated Storm Wolf that evolved into Fenrir. It destroyed half of the facilities and piled up a large number of bodies.

Thanks to his parents, the monster was subdued, but at a great cost.

His Second ordeal was when he attended a party in the capital; his mother, the pillar in his heart, got transferred to the North Pole and died protecting a Duke’s daughter, which he hates later on.

The kind and cheerful kid fell silent under a thousand blames. He built a massive wall around his heart to contain all his emotions alone.

Over days, the void in his heart shrouded him with darkness that gnawed at his consciousness.

Until the final point as his heart shattered into pieces. The father he used to admire was gone from the world.

Trapped in one of the Noble Conspiracies within the border.

Instead of mourning, the Kingdom celebrated the occasion, as the Protagonist was hailed as a Hero who had stopped the rampage, and the boy took all the blame.

Because one of his family members was involved in the matter.

From that moment, the boy whose heart was shattered joined the enemy and turned him into one of the worst Villains that always stood in the Hero’s path.

"...".

Jin was at a loss for words; the story was too heavy for him to bear. ’So that was my backstory’.

He gritted his teeth, fingers curled in a tight fist as he believed that he would end up that way if he didn’t intercept the Storm Wolf and Silvia’s disappearance.

Half of his people died? Mother’s death? Jin shuddered at the thought.

Both of those probabilities had been negated thanks to his perseverance and system help.

The only thing that still haunted him was the new information about his father and brother’s death.

"Noble conspiracy, when did it start?".

Jin shifted his attention toward Kenji, who brought a silver kettle from his storage and poured another filling into his glass.

"Summer this year when you and your family were being invited into the Count Magna’s territory to celebrate your brother’s promotion".

"Summer".

He lowered his gaze in deep thoughts. The season was still spring, and he still had approximately two months to prepare.

"Thanks for the information, Kenji".

The fox boy brushed his thanks by waving his hand and offered Jin a refill, which he took for granted.

As the water filled the glass, Jin saw his reflection.

Emerald eyes shone with blazing determination, a molten heart that forged into a fierce blade that could cut anything.

"Are you not going to ask another thing?".

Kenji’s sudden words brought Jin’s consciousness to the surface. He gazed at the side and watched Kenji with a hardened expression as if ready to face a great enemy.

Jin shook his head, as the earlier information was more than enough for him.

"Nope, thanks for the explanation".

"Really, you aren’t interested in what event that will involve the protagonist".

"No, let me hear your story, instead? Who are you? Are you related to the story?".

He didn’t have any attachment to how Allen’s story would progress. Jin would let Allen do his scripted role, and he would do his own.

With that, he could focus on the matter regarding his trial in the future.

Jin’s new Goal was to save his family members and not to let him step into the path of no return.

Because it would be a laughing matter if he did, Lucya would probably laugh.

"Alright, sadly, I’m not some grandeur character, just a mob you could find anywhere".

Kenji exhaled, putting his elbow on the table as he rested his chin on it.

"Is that so?".

"Yep".

The fox boy shrugged his shoulders and began to tell Jin his story so far. How he lived after realizing he was reincarnated into the game world and his ultimate goals.

They talked in whispers at first, until both stifled a laugh together because Kenji was fancying one of the heroines in the story.

"Hee, so you like Nanami, that fox demi-human. She was a senior in Prometheus academy?".

"Right, but because of my lack of combat capabilities, I joined another academy that focused on craftsmanship".

Jin blinked, finding the words Kenji said contradicted his first impression of him.

"You lack in combat?". Jin knitted his brows in wonder. "Then why did you growling at me earlier".

Kenji scratched his back head and shyly admitted it. "Well, I was ready for being battered, but luckily you are not the person in the story".

"Are you having a sister-complex or what?".

"Oh shut it, it was not like that". Kenji swung his hands furiously with a tinge of blush on his cheek. "It is normal for a brother to worry about his sister."

"Yeah, right". Jin replied half-listen, nodding to confirm the boy’s complex.

A gentle knock rang behind the door, prompting the boys to glance at the source.

"Big bro, Hiyori brough the takoyaki".

"Hiyori".

Jin and Kenji’s sounds overlapped as the fox boy abruptly sprang from his seat and dashed toward the door, pulling it gently with a creak.

"Big bro, Kenji, can I come in?".

The big brother turned to Jin, who nodded and said to his little sister.

"Go ahead, let me take that heavy stuff".

"Ehehe, thanks". Hiyori beamed, approached Jin’s side, and sat on his left.

"Big bro, Jin, let’s enjoy the takoyaki together. It is delicious and Hiyori approved of it".

"Is that so? I can’t wait to taste it then".

Jin pretended to be oblivious as he raised a hand to pat the girl’s head, making her fluffy tails swaying happily.

Kenji arranged the wooden boxes on the table and opened the lid to let the encased steam vaporize into the atmosphere.

The golden-brown, crisp batter on the surface shimmered with a glossy homemade sauce. Bonito flakes danced on the heat, releasing a savory aroma that roused Jin’s appetite.

Three pairs of chopsticks lay on top of a small plate that Kenji had taken from his storage.

"Let’s dig in". Kenji used it to pinch a ball of takoyaki and brought it to his mouth after several blows.

"Hiyori too".

Hiyori also skilfully used the chopstick to take one. Watching her cheeks bloated adorably, Jin chuckled as he took one on his plate.

"...Thanks for the food".
