Great Demon Sun Wukong-Chapter 691 - 632: The Truth (Part 2)
By the end, Sun Wukong had already closed his eyes, filled with lament, feeling sorry for the simpleton. The image of Bajie being demoted to the Lower Realm and born in the form of a pig ended there, the last scene freezing on the newborn piglet's puzzled expression. With both scenes concluded, Sun Wukong's mind was churning with thoughts, and he now desperately needed a quiet place to sort through everything he had seen and thought.

To Sun Wukong's surprise, when the second image disappeared, he wasn't cast out but instead, after a twist in the space, another scene appeared. The scene was still set in the Heavenly Palace, still at the Jade Pool, still during the Peach Banquet, but Sun Wukong noticed that the seat that belonged to Tianpeng Marshal was gone, and although everyone was still eating and drinking, their expressions were somewhat unusual. Sun Wukong suspected this was after Bajie was demoted. The Peach Banquet was the grandest and most significant event in the Three Realms, even more important than Buddhism's Ullambana Festival, and naturally, it wouldn't just end abruptly because of Bajie's demotion.
This new scene was very direct, and Sun Wukong immediately saw the figure in armor standing at the entrance of the Jade Pool. "Could it be Old Sha? Old Sha looks like this when he was Juanlian General; he was actually quite imposing back then!" But no sooner had he spoken than Sun Wukong suddenly realized something. Bajie's demotion was a setup, but what about Old Sha's? Sha Wujing was demoted because he accidentally broke a glass cup during the Peach Banquet and angered the Queen Mother, so he too was cast down to the Flowing Sands River to painstakingly collect the powdered fragments of the glass until it was completely restored, only then could he return to Heaven and continue as Juanlian General.
Reflecting on this, Sun Wukong felt a profound sadness. Compared with Bajie, actually, Sha Wujing's fate was more tragic. Before his demotion, at least Bajie had enjoyed some glory for a long time; as Tianpeng Marshal, he commanded eight-hundred-thousand marines of the Milky Way—a true general with real power. And Sha Wujing? The title of Juanlian General was impressive-sounding, but in reality, it was just a job lifting the curtains at the Jade Pool whenever someone passed by. According to Sha Wujing, he had been doing this ever since he attained immortality, for tens of thousands of years. This was why Sha Wujing was so taciturn.
So, when Sun Wukong saw that the focus of this scene was Sha Wujing, he remembered the incident of Sha Wujing breaking the glass cup. Could it be that there was also some hidden story behind Sha Wujing's demotion? After embarking on the journey to the Western Paradise, Sun Wukong had often told others that Sha Wujing smashed him with the glass cup because Sun Wukong had disturbed the Peach Banquet when he caused havoc in Heaven. But those were only words of comfort Sun Wukong offered to Sha Wujing.
Indeed, in the scene before Sun Wukong, Sha Wujing, who had been standing motionless at the entrance like a statue, suddenly moved, and Sun Wukong immediately noticed the expression on Sha Wujing's face—an utter disbelief. Then, Sha Wujing moved again, stepped aside, and knocked over the glass cup nearby. Afterward, Sha Wujing's expression of disbelief turned into horror. Having served as Juanlian General for tens of thousands of years had made Sha Wujing's personality incredibly timid, yet he was still utterly perplexed by his own actions; however, breaking the glass cup was indisputable.
Therefore, Sha Wujing immediately fell to his knees, muttering about his deserving death. Normally, a gatekeeper breaking a non-rare glass lamp wasn't an unforgivable misdeed, but the Queen Mother was already in a foul mood due to Bajie's demotion the day before. And now, Sha Wujing had broken the glass cup at her Peach Banquet, further embarrassing her. So, the Queen Mother simply waved her hand and ordered someone to cast him down to the mortal realm, only allowing him to return when the glass cup was repaired. In reality, though, the Queen Mother had long since forgotten about Sha Wujing, but the honest Sha Wujing was still fearfully searching the bottom of the Flowing Sands River day and night for the powdered fragments of the glass.
This scene was brief, and it ended right after Sha Wujing was thrown into the Flowing Sands River. By now, Sun Wukong had seen clearly—Sha Wujing must have been controlled by someone at the time. So, Sha Wujing breaking the glass cup was also a set-up? Could it possibly be the same androgynous person who had set up Bajie? But why would that person want to set up Sha Wujing? Back then, Sha Wujing's cultivation had barely reached the initial stage of an Earth Immortal, not even a Heavenly Immortal, and he was really quite insignificant in Heaven. But since it had happened, however improbable it might seem, there must be a reason behind it.
And Sun Wukong also knew that Sha Wujing was actually very powerful. Even though Sha Wujing hadn't shown anything too astonishing throughout the journey to the Western Paradise, anyone who now dared to say Sha Wujing wasn't a natural prodigy was either blind or a fool. The perfect fusion with the World Suppressing Stele—what kind of heaven-defying talent was that? At this thought, a spark flashed in Sun Wukong's mind, and he suddenly remembered Sha Wujing's mysterious disappearance and subsequent appearance in the Ancient Primordial World with the World Suppressing Stele in hand. At the time, he thought it was the work of the Crimson Army, but later Yi Xuan denied it.
Now it seemed that Sand's disappearance and reappearance, along with his suddenly surging cultivation, probably had an inevitable connection with that androgynous person. At that time, Sand had no reason to be framed; even Sun Wukong, when he created havoc in the Heavenly Palace, didn't spare him a glance, and didn't even bother to kill him. It was clear just how ordinary Sand was back then. Such an ordinary person was framed by someone using those means—there absolutely had to be something fishy going on.
In saying this, Sand being framed and demoted to the Flowing Sands River, was likely because that androgynous individual had seen Sand's potential—he would one day become a super powerhouse in this universe. But this was too shocking to believe—who could possess such foresight to see that intangible future? And most importantly, that person's judgment was indeed precise. Based on Sand's current cultivation, a million Jade Emperors wouldn't match up to the slap of his hand.
"Bajie and Sand's demotion could be said to have someone pulling strings behind the scenes, what about the little White Dragon? And Master?" Initially, Sun Wukong thought the androgynous person was framing Bajie and Sand, but upon further consideration, although that person's methods weren't honorable, they did leave a lifeline for the two. Furthermore, if it weren't for that person's methods, they wouldn't have the brotherhood they have now. At the same time, Sun Wukong was almost certain that the choices for the pilgrimage to the Western Paradise were also the result of someone's interference. Otherwise, just he and his master would have been enough, yet Bajie, Sand, and little White Dragon were all involved as well.
Without letting Sun Wukong wait, after Sand's scene ended, the fourth scene appeared. It was set at the bottom of the sea. After Bajie and Sand, it should be the little White Dragon, Ao Yu. Ao Yu was originally the Third Prince of the West Sea Dragon King, Ao Run. He set fire to the Bright Pearl bestowed by the Jade Emperor in the palace, violating the Heavenly law and committing a capital offense. Fortunately, Bodhisattva Guanyin from the South Sea intervened in mercy, sparing him the trouble. He was demoted to the Eagle Sorrow Stream on the Serpent Coiling Mountain to wait for Tang Sanzang to retrieve scriptures from the Western Paradise. Helplessly he did not recognize Tang Sanzang and Wukong and mistakenly consumed Tang Sanzang's white horse. Later, after being enlightened by Bodhisattva Guanyin, he cut off his horns and shed his scales, transforming into the White Dragon Horse, taking refuge in Buddhism. He served as Tang Sanzang's mount on the pilgrimage road, toiled devotedly through hardships, and eventually attained enlightenment. After returning with the scriptures, he was promoted by Tathagata Buddha to be the Heavenly Dragon of the Eight Divisions, Wide Power Bodhisattva.
Of course, this is what everyone knows about the little White Dragon, Ao Yu. However, what Sun Wukong saw was not the same. In the scenes he witnessed, at that time, the little White Dragon, Ao Yu, was still a Third Prince, elegant and graceful in white robes, extraordinarily handsome. One day, while West Sea Dragon King Ao Run was out meeting friends and left his third son Ao Yu at home, which was a very normal occurrence. At that time, Ao Yu was still young and not fit to accompany his father on outings in the West Sea.
After Ao Run left, someone suddenly arrived at the West Sea Dragon Palace. Sun Wukong did not recognize the person but found him somewhat familiar. On further thought, he couldn't identify who it was. Once at the West Sea Dragon Palace, this person suddenly claimed to want a battle with the Third Prince Ao Yu. Ao Yu, being warlike, plus the old Dragon King not being home, disregarded the advice of the palace's inhabitants, took up his spear, and left the Dragon Palace to agree upon the terms of the engagement. Then the two began their battle. Sun Wukong could tell that the little White Dragon's cultivation was shallow, and the challenger's cultivation was even inferior to the little White Dragon's.
After a few rounds, the challenger was defeated. The little White Dragon did not kill him, but instead, he laughed heartily and took the challenger's offer before letting him go. This was actually the little White Dragon's first time in combat, but he won on his first attempt and even obtained such an offer, which naturally made him extremely happy. What the little White Dragon won was a ball of flame, presumably a Strange Fire. Although Ao Yu was of the Water Attribute, it would still be impressive to show off later.
Thus, in his joy, he widely proclaimed his victory to the denizens of the Dragon Palace; after he had shown off enough, he placed the ball of flame in the Treasure Pavilion of the West Sea Dragon King, planning to show it to his father upon his return. However, that very night, a great fire erupted in the Treasure Pavilion. The other treasures were unharmed, but the Bright Pearl gifted by the Jade Emperor was destroyed.
The little White Dragon was very young then, so he was instantly scared witless. What followed was nothing extraordinary. After the old Dragon King returned, he was terrified, and although he tried to cover up the incident, the Jade Emperor still came to know of it. Burning the Bright Pearl given by the Jade Emperor was a capital crime. But fortunately, Bodhisattva Guanyin appeared in time to plead for the little White Dragon, and thus he was spared from death. But when Sun Wukong saw Bodhisattva Guanyin in the scene, his expression suddenly changed. (To be continued.
