Chapter 228: There Will Be Nothing Else

** Harper **

For the first time in her life, Harper came to fully appreciate the precious invention of pillows. The squishy layers of cushions buffered her fall, giving her just enough time to hold on to the headboard, and she was beyond grateful when she narrowly avoided flattening Eli’s handsome face with her butt.

Eli, on the other hand, didn’t seem to have realized how close he was to getting his nose broken in such a tragic way. Supporting her thigh with one arm, he continued to lap her up, and he groaned disappointedly when she finally slipped away from above him and completely collapsed into a boneless heap.

"Argh, I’m not full yet," he whined, though he still helped her lie down comfortably on her back. Those wicked lips kissed a lingering wet trail up her hips, over her stomach, across her chest, as if trying to lick up every last trace of his "dinner" to appease his insatiable hunger.

Then she felt a soft click at her back when he rounded behind her shoulders, and her bra came undone with a tug of his hand.

Wait ... Was she seriously still wearing her underwear?

"Yes, you are. And this one too," Eli chuckled, planting more kisses along the side of her neck as his hand glided down, pulling her panty down her shaky legs.

"... Did I somehow say that out loud?" Harper’s head was in a whirring daze. Gosh, they had already gone two wild rounds — to the point that she no longer knew the words coming out of her own mouth anymore — and yet she was still clothed. He was too, in fact, with the open shirt that had long wrinkled to pieces and dangled crookedly over his shoulders. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

Eli chuckled again without answering her way-too-obvious question. Having satisfactorily and fully undressed both of them this time, he reached over to the nightstand, pulling open the top drawer.

The haze clouded over Harper’s mind slowly started to lift at the sight of a box of foil wrappers. "Oh ... hang on." A bit belatedly, she remembered the surprise that she was still holding back from him.

An eyebrow raised at her interjection. "Not impatient today anymore, my little demoness?" He sat back into the bed with a curious expression. "Need a break? Or do you require some certain techniques of resuscitation as well before we continue?"

Harper laughed, still breathless. "I suppose I can’t say that I’ll mind it ... But, have I told you that I’ve been on the pill since we got back from Hawaii?" Her eyes darted to the drawer that was still open. "It’s been a week now ... so I don’t think we’ll need these anymore."

She looked back at him, waiting expectantly for his reaction.

At first, it didn’t seem like he had quite processed exactly what she meant. He stared at her blankly, then glanced at the drawer. "You ..." It took a few moments for him to turn back to her, and there was a subtle change in his gaze. "Are you ... sure?"

Harper smiled. "Well, if the books are telling the truth ... It’s supposed to feel better this way for you, isn’t it?"

Something flickered in Eli’s expression. He climbed back to where he was on top of her, and when he nudged his lips over the shell of her ear to whisper against her, she could hear a slight catch in his breath:

"I would hope so ... but you’d have to help me prove it. I’ve never gone raw before."

Now, it was Harper’s turn to be caught off guard by a revelation she hadn’t expected.

It made sense, of course, if one actually thought about it. Playboy as he might be, Eli knew what it was like to have an irresponsible father, and there were probably few things in life that he hated more than that. He would never take the chance to let the same pattern repeat itself on him ... so it was only natural that he’d be extra careful on the matter.

Harper chewed her lips at the thought, suddenly growing a little uncertain. Would he ... not like the secret plan she had made without him? If he wasn’t comfortable with changing things—

The hot, hard presence lodging itself between her thighs was her answer. "Harper," he said again softly, "are you absolutely sure?"

It was a familiar tone, one that he had spoken with back in Hawaii, when he asked her the same question on their first night together.

And then ... she suddenly understood.

This wasn’t about risk or responsibility. Not when it was between the two of them. To him, peeling away that last layer was a new vulnerability, a new type of trust that he wasn’t used to giving or receiving. It was a first for both of them ... just like that night in Hawaii.

The realization made her heart swell. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she hugged him closer to her, and she smiled to herself when she felt a subtle yet sure pulse from where their bodies were pressed together. "I am," she said. "I want you, Eli. All of you, always. And from now on, I don’t want anything else between us."

There was a moment of silence. Then he pulled back just enough to look into her eyes, and when she met his gaze again, there was something new in there. Something that glowed softer yet brighter than all the blinding heat from before.

"There will be nothing else," he promised, and then his lips were on hers, claiming her breath and all her words with a deep kiss.

It was a slower dance than the ones they had shared earlier, measured yet sensual all the same as he painted tingling arcs in her mouth with every sure stroke. They savored each other in that deep tangle, and she moaned softly into his mouth when she tasted the lingering tang of both of them on the tip of their tongues. And again, when the wet heat between her thighs pushed forward, gliding snugly into her.
