House of The Dragon-A God Amongst Men-Chapter 238: Cultists
Chapter 238 - Cultists
(Third Person POV)
[King's Landing]
Inside the Dragonpit, Alyssa quickly rushed to Dreamfyre's nest, trying not to startle any of the keepers, nor wake the dragon up.
"Curses...." She whispered to herself as she had a pouch in her hands, "This is not good...."
As she quietly approached the mouth of the cave, she could hear Dreamfyre's loud rumbling, the she-dragon was sleeping. She slowly crouched down as she noticed the heat of the clutch in front of her.
"This one is quite the mother, huh? Meleys won't lay a clutch at all..." Alyssa thought to herself as she sneaked towards the clutch
As she reached it, she quickly grabbed an iron pick from the bag she had and immediately began to open the membrane, trying her best not to make much noise. As she did so, she felt the heat of the clutch release into steam, hitting her in the face.
"Hm..." She said as she quickly pulled the eggs out, "Come on...."
She opened the pouch and began to place them inside, constantly looking at the sleeping dragon and back at the entrance of the cave. The last thing she wanted was to be caught by the keepers because she did not have that good of an excuse to have five of Dreamfyre's eggs.
She let out an exhale as she placed the last of the eggs inside the bag, "Alright..." She said as she slowly stood up, backing away, "This is not something I like doing...."
She quickly rushed over to the entrance of the cave and leaned against the wall, letting out another exhale, anxiety filling her entire body. What she was doing was not something she had hoped to do; go behind her House's back and perform tasks for the Trinity.
But she had no choice, the Trinity was the reason she was alive, as well as her son Aegon. She had no choice but to do as they said, even if she hated it. That was part of the deal she made with Drakken, to give her being to the Trinity and use her free will to make the right choice for her and her son.
She felt the weight of the pouch hanging from her shoulder, "Alright....."
Without wasting another moment, she immediately began to rush out of the caverns, hearing the rumbling of the other dragons.
As she passed Meleys's cave, she heard her own dragon waking up and heard her call.
Alyssa stopped and extended her hand, "Silence, Meleys..." She commanded in High-Valyrian, "Do not make noise."
The Red Dragon merely snorted and looked at her, noticing the odd smell of the dragon eggs near her. She let out a rumble as she slowly blinked, probably wondering why her rider had eggs on her.
Alyssa slowly stepped away, immediately breaking into a spring and made her way up the stairs that led to the entrance of the Pit.
As she reached the top, she noticed the figures of two keepers walking inside. She quickly ran to hide behind a pillar, one that was next to the stairs.
"Fuck..." she whispered
She then saw that the keepers slowly walked over to the steps, "Was that Meleys I just heard making a rumble?" one of them asked in High-Valyrian, "She's usually asleep, something could be wrong."
"Dragons usually wake up during slumber, pay no mind." The other said, "Let us go and grab the eggs as His Grace commanded."
Alyssa gritted her teeth, "That is not good." She muttered under her breath, watching the keepers walk further inside, "I have to leave now."
Once she saw the coast was clear, she immediately rushed out of the Dragonpit.
The moment she reached the exit, she noticed some torches in the distance, in the area outside the pit. There was a group of hooded individuals standing in front of three guards and someone who seemed to be Jaehaerys.
She quickly darted to the left, hiding behind a group of crates. She covered her mouth to muffle her heavy and anxious breathing, hoping she had not been spotted.
Fortunately, she was not and she slowly peeked through a gap between the crates.
She saw that her Father, Jaehaerys was speaking to the hooded individuals.
"I want you to understand." Jaehaerys said, "That this is not part of the deal."
"Why not?" a woman's voice asked, "We did as you wanted."
"It did not work!" Jaehaerys exclaimed, "The source of Drakken's power was not severed! The War did not end, quite the contrary! Drakken unleashed a wrath upon the Vale like nothing else! Thousands dead!"
"I am aware." the woman in the front said, "But.....we reached the center of the Shade...and we detonated. The deal was that the Chosen Flame reaches the source of power in exchange for two dragon eggs. The Chosen Flame reached the source of power."
"But it was futile!" Jaehaerys scowled, "You ended up killing one of his mistresses!"
"Casualties are not my problem." The woman said
"Like the ones in Asshai?" Jaehaerys asked
The woman lowered her hood to show her frown, "And how might you be aware of that?"
"Word travels pretty quickly when it comes to Drakken's devastation." Jaehaerys said
"No matter." the woman said, "The Lord of Light has followers all over Essos. He would have to destroy all of that land to get back at us. It does not matter if Asshai was destroyed, his Light has already spread throughout the world."
"Not on this part." Jaehaerys said, "I want you to know that I will not agree to this exchange."
"And why are we here?" The woman asked
"Because..." Jaehaerys stepped to the side, "The Faith requires you to be detained."
Suddenly, several dozens of armed soldiers swarmed the area and surrounded the six cultists in front of the King.
Alyssa covered her mouth as she hid behind the crates, "Oh my..." She said as the soldiers drew their swords and pointed them at them, "Father...."
"You are committing a grave error." The Priestess said, "We have agents all over Westeros, embedded in every region. When they learn of this, they will act."
"Please." Jaehaerys said, "Do not try something. Unlike the Trinity, we can definitely afford to deal with the likes of you."
"You are quite something, Jaehaerys Targaryen." The Priestess said, "To think that you would turn on us like this."
"I took a huge risk in dealing with you in the first place." Jaehaerys said seriously, "This is me atoning for those mistakes."
"Hm." the Priestess said, "Very well. Our Lord guides all, after all. He will guide me out of this predicament. And make no mistake.....you will regret this."
Suddenly, the keepers ran out of the entrance.
"Your Grace, the eggs!!" The keeper said, "They're gone!"
"What?!" Jaehaerys exclaimed in High-Valyrian, "What do you mean?!"
This was Alyssa's cue and she immediately rushed out of there, escaping into the shadows.
"This is not good....!" Alyssa said,
"I have to get these to Viserra!"
