Chapter 165: The police and heroes arrive

The piercing sound of the police sirens sounded loud as the red and blue flashing lights lit up a large portion of the horizon.

As that was not enough unwanted distractions, a buzzing group descended down, one of them looking back and chuckling when he saw that the police group was still on the way.

The person that Ravi had seen that day stepped out of the group of five and smiled at him, "Officer West, I am glad to see you well and alive. This must have been the most frightening ordeal. We have a healer, she can..."

"No need." Ravi said curtly, causing the man to raise his brows.

"Officer West’s ability is self-healing." Arlen moved to respond to his friend, causing Ravi to look at him in surprise, his voice was oddly cold.

Why? Was it about their kiss just now? Has the adrenaline worn off and he has started regretting it? Even though this situation and was different, Ravi could not help but speculate at this moment.

"Oh heavens! It is Helena, a member of the Phantom."

Finally! With the way Arlen and his brother had ignored the dead body, a small part of Ravi felt like he was hallucinating this entire ordeal.

With the scream of the hero, the rest of them rushed to the body, "Was she stabbed?" One of them asked.

"No, the wound is too large to be a knife..."

Ravi did not pay them any attention, his focus was on the two men facing each other like they were about to fight. There was a tension in the air, a tension that Ravi did not particularly like.

"It seems like one of the members of the Phantom is dead, maybe there was infighting in their team?" Vega said, his eyes raving over the scene before landing on Ravi.

"You tell me." Arlen said almost immediately, moving subtly to block Ravi from Vega’s gaze. His blue eyes, now sharp, roamed over the form of his old friend. That biting suspicion at the back of his head. They had arrested Fluxx in the pizzeria and contrary to his expectation, the young man had been all too willing to spill; the answer to any of the questions he was asked.

He had claimed that he had been in and out of the police station several times, and the Heroes Hotel spying on them and collecting information but had indicated that he was not the one who had reported to both Victor and Nova that the police had detected their presence in the riot that day.

"I can’t be in two places at once." The young man had said, his head lowered as he held the cup in his hand. He did not particularly concede that he would be sent to jail any time soon, in fact, Arlen had the terrible feeling that the youth would rather welcome that particular information.

That, however, the information had made him tense and cautious, as if his previous suspicion was true, the person whom he had made the call to was no other than the Vega in front of him, of course his behavior when Arlen had called the tracker had helped cement that suspicion even more.

He had no evidence though and the man’s blank look when he looked at Helena’s dead body did not seem fake.

"It is just a suggestion, Captain Sinclair." Vega’s tone was clear and almost unforgiving, like he understood that he had been tense all day.

Arlen agreed in his mind, he could collect evidence to conduct an investigation later. Today, he had another matter filling his mind. He looked back to see Ravi looking at the police car that was fast approaching.

The police car stopped in the clearing and the three police officers came out each one equipped with a gun and a bulletproof vest.

Ravi had a particular mirth in his eyes and Arlen could tell that he had a particular sarcastic thought in his mind right now, along the lines of, ’Like a bullet vest would help when fighting mutants’

Ravi saw him looking at him and his ears colored red almost immediately. He looked away when he saw a smaller figure coming out after Sarah.

Ravi smiled and made it for him. Asher also ran towards him, launching himself into a ball into his arms. Ravi twirled him around for a bit and kissed him on the forehead.

Asher sniffled and he patted his head, "Haven’t I told you not to worry about me?"

His words did not make Asher reassured but made him burst into tears. Arlen left Vega and made his way to the two of them.

"Secure their perimeters. We found one of the bodies of the villain."

Lisa looked at Ravi and his nephew with a smile and nodded at the Captain. She can hug him and scold him later. frёeωebɳovel.com

"He received a threatening call from one of the villains, the leader, priestess ." Arlen said, his voice a little guilty, " I came late."

Ravi shook his head, still consoling Asher, "No. Thank you for taking care of him." He bent down to look at Asher, "Ash. Ash. I am okay. I am fine. You are fine. Everything would be fine, okay? If you say it is your fault one more time, you will lose your television privileges." Feeling like that the particular threat was not enough, he added another, "You would not be allowed to make smoothies either."

There was a snuffled laughter and both pairs of eyes looked up to glare at Arlen who raised his hand up and moved back.

"Did they hurt you?"

Ravi rolled his eyes, "They are not capable of that. I am fine, see." He moved back to let Asher see that he was completely fine.

There was the sound of two people running and Ravi looked up to see both Lisa and Draco run out of the van, retching and he recalled how Victor had died.

It was not his fault, he and Malik had not had enough time to clean up.

"You should take him back to rest. We would take care of the rest, okay?" Arlen reached his hand before taking it back.
