I Became My Healer Elf Character-Chapter 102: The Web of Hope
Hikari looked down at one of the large spiders in its hole. She estimated that its size was around 3 meters. It was interesting looking. It had a black top, but on its bottom was white—much like a shark's camouflage. Although, the elf went close to it, the thing didn't even try to attack her. She tilted her head in confusion, looking towards Ayase for answers.
"The spiders are mostly docile. That's why they've been driven to near extinction. They feed on fish for the most part. There are recordings of them attacking people, but that was always when people encroached on their territory."
Hikari nodded along to the explanation. "Before I came here, I believed that monsters were nothing more than mindless beasts, always attacking people. However, the more I'm here, the more I've learned it's not really like that. Monsters are closer to animals and have their very own way of living."
"Well, it's basically true. Monsters are a classification that we invented. We classify monsters by whether they appear in dungeons or not. Dire wolves are considered monsters here. Though, there is a big difference between monsters in the wilds and those in dungeons. Dungeon monsters have things like cores. They extract their mana from the core of the dungeon itself. Monsters in the wild are different."
Hikari smiled. "Such a fascinating topic. I bet we could learn a lot at the Imperial college. How do we gather these threads without harming the spiders?"
"If you take only half of each web, the spiders can replenish quickly. They're pretty limited by the amount of threads they can make but they should be able to produce half. After all, their web is an overabundance of threads. Fish are larger than bugs, so they should be able to make due with half."
Hikari observed many of the fish swimming around in the water, and a lot of them never even ventured towards the webs. "It seems like all of those fish adapted to the spiders already."
"Some fishes don't swim into those crevices anymore. They learned from their predecessors. Yet another reason why the spiders suffer."
Kurayami observed the spiders with pity. "Wretched creatures. I almost feel bad for them, Master."
"Maybe I can take a few of them and figure out what to do with them from there."
As the others began gathering threads, Hikari decided to store some of the spiders in her domain. She made one of her subordinates look after them in the meantime. This will also give me a way to make many outfits with ease.
"Master, I know that grin! You're planning on using those spiders aren't you? So devious!"
"You make it sound like I'm some evil overlord when you say that!"
Ayase chuckled. "I find it cute."

Mizuko nodded. "Me too, but I think the mistress is always cute."
"Did you all start a contest to see which of you can make me the most annoyed? Because if you did, it's working."
The group laughed at their silly master's declaration. In the end, it wasn't much of a challenge for them to gather the threads. They made the rest of the crew aware of the danger of gathering too much, so they only took half.
Still, half of a massive reef was enough to fill an entire cargo bay with threads. Several large crates ended up becoming full of spider silk.
"This was way easier than I expected it to be," Lord Vuldragon said, looking towards Hikari. "Are you some kind of good luck charm?"
"That depends. How much Hope did you have when you started this journey?"
The captain laughed. "Well, I always did hope that everything would turn out okay. I guess this counts as a good run. When we get back, I'll make sure that everyone is compensated well for this. Really, I owe you guys a lot. I have no idea why, but I feel like you're the only reason this was possible."
Hikari smiled wryly. "Maybe that's partially true."
The lord sighed. "I guess that's the big difference between someone who went beyond the realms of what normal humans are capable of and reached the 8th tier. It's just a shame that I couldn't show off my strength. Do you know how motivated my men were after that long speech?"
Hikari shrugged. "You should consider yourself lucky. Trust me when I say that you didn't want to do battle this time. Better that you and your crew stayed safe." Hikari looked towards the man's legs. "There is one last thing I wanted to do before we separate. I know it's still a while until we get back to your city, but…"
"What's that?"
The elf touched her staff against the ground. Warmth spread throughout her body, and the staff glowed a hot white. The bells jingled on the end, creating a soothing voice to the captain and the rest of the people aboard.
"[Grand Cure]," the elf said, tapping her staff against his leg.
The effect was immediate. White particles spread up and down both appendages. They began cleansing the curse from within. They sapped the life from the living curse, until it was no more. Even the healing effect of the spell was prominent. After the curse died, the leg healed back to knew, even gaining the muscle that should have been there in the first place.
"Now then, your curse is cured. You can walk freely, but I recommend taking it easy for the next few days."
The captain looked at her dumbfounded. The crew looked at her dumbfounded. Everyone stared as if they'd witnessed the greatest miracle of their lives.
Lord Vuldragon could only shake his head in disbelief. "What do you mean the curse is cured!? Do you have any idea how many people tried to heal these legs!? You can't just…"
He attempted to stand, trying to prove her wrong. There was no way that such a plague could have been cured by some random adventurer. However, her words rang true. His uneasy legs were wobbly, yet he stood as a new man.
Tears filled the eyes of his closest comrades. "Captain...I don't believe it…"
Kurayami grinned smugly. "I don't know what you all are surprised about. This is a simple matter for the master."
The captain had no idea what to do with all of the excitement and joy building inside of him. In the end, he wrapped his arms around Hikari and hugged her. A river of tears poured down his cheeks and sprinkled onto her white robes.
"I...I don't know what to say. In all of my years. Thank you! Thank you so much!"
Hikari had no idea what to do with this showcasing of emotions. She gently patted the man's back, noticing that with his legs back he finally towered over her. Of course! Everyone is taller than I am!
She waited for him to calm down. Once the man finally released her, he realized his mistake.
His face turned red and he rubbed the back of his head. "I'm very sorry. I was just so overcome with emotions that I couldn't help myself."
Hikari sighed and waved him off. "You don't need to be sorry. I didn't do this because I wanted you to apologize to me."
"Right...Thank you again. In all of my years, I never thought I would see the day when I could move these again. This was one of my many follies. If not for my crew, I'd not have been able to stay sane." Lord Vuldragon looked at her in a new light. "Is there anyway I can ever repay you?"
"You don't need to worry about things like payments. The payment was going on this adventure. Also...A word of warning for the future. That curse was placed on you by someone else...Probably someone in your Empire."
The man didn't seem at all phased by Hikari's words. He shrugged. "I expected that. That's part of the reason that I accepted my family's proposal so easily. In the Empire, it's kill or be killed a lot of the time. Someone didn't want me to succeed the throne, so I was crippled as a boy. I imagine it's someone in my brother's court."
"What about your brother himself?"
The lord shook his head. "I highly doubt it was him. He was only around 4 at the time. Besides, in those years we were really close. When I first became unable to walk, he tended to me and brought me food. He'd sneak past many of the guards and maids to come to my room, even when Esteemed Father said no."
"I see. It sounds like an average political situation."
"Indeed," the captain said," by the way, are you some type of goddess? That's the only explanation that makes sense to me. I've been thinking all of the time that you're too beautiful to be anything else."
"Are you trying to flirt with me? I'll have you know that I only like girls."
The captain grew flustered and waved his arms helplessly. "No! I was being serious!"
"Relax, I was just pulling your leg." Hikari chuckled and looked at his new legs for emphasis. "But to answer your question...Yes, you can call me a goddess."
