I Received System to Become Dragonborn-Chapter 791: A Tug
They continued their march through the heart of the city, descending gradually from the palace tier into the bustling streets below. The paving stones under their feet were smooth from generations of passage, and the smell of spices and smoke drifted heavily in the air.
Eccar's sharp eyes moved across every corner, every little invention, and every peculiar mix of steel and spellwork.
The marketplace was especially alive, with rows of vibrant stalls offering all manner of wares like enchanted cloth that the seller claimed could repel rain, self-heating pans, hovering ink quills, and bottled light sealed in crystal jars.
Merchants called out prices and beckoned customers, their voices overlapping in a rhythm that only made sense to those born into it.
Eccar marveled quietly at the blend of innovation and practicality. He didn't know how much of use all of that invention, but they certainly new to him.
It was all so different from the slow and elegant pace of the Elf Palace where everything was deliberate and steeped in symbolism. Here, it was mixed of invention and practicality. Action over grace. Heat over harmony.
But Eccar, for all his quiet strength, didn't notice the looks he was drawing.
People stepped aside for him, and those who didn't still couldn't look away. His Elven attire that woven with threads of silver and green and embroidered with natural motifs and glints of enchantment caught the eye of everyone around.
The long flowing fabric moved like water in contrast to the stiff leather and metal of the city folk. And beside him walked Archmage Adrius, one of the most important figure in the kingdom, as if guiding an honored dignitary.
Whispers rose behind them like ripples in a pond.
"Is that… an Elf?"

"No, look at his ears. He's human, but he's dressed like royalty from that race."
"Could be an envoy. Maybe something's happening between them and the Elves."
"That's Archmage Adrius, right? He's walking with him personally. This has to be important…"
Eccar kept walking, still absorbed by the sights. He now see levitating carts, the glowing sigils lining the stone roads, and the miniature beasts made of flame dancing on a performer's palm, but Adrius noticed the attention they were drawing.
He leaned slightly toward Eccar and said under his breath, "Don't mind the stares. Most of them have only read about Elves in books or seen them in paintings. You're the closest they've come to seeing someone who walks like them."
Eccar chuckled. "I'm not an Elf, though. But It's fine. Let them look."
His tone was light and unbothered, though his eyes briefly flicked toward a pair of children tugging at their mother's cloak, pointing at him with open awe.
"This is nothing," he added. "Besides, I can tell that they're not afraid. Just curious."
Adrius nodded. "Still, try not to spread your wings or set anything on fire today. That would be a bit much for their hearts to handle."
"I'll try to behave," Eccar replied with a faint grin.
They moved deeper into the city, the road curving downward into a district lined with academies and towers. Spires pierced the sky and floating runes hung in the air like drifting stars.
The contrast between human ingenuity and Magical foundation never stopped unfolding before Eccar's eyes.
And somewhere, deep in the buzz and movement of it all, he felt something. Multiple eyes were gazing his way with from a deep alley. He can feel their bad intentions. But he said nothing for now, choosing instead to enjoy the city's energy.

Inside the dark alley, three figures stood watching Eccar with curious eyes. They wore the gear of adventurers, their armor marked with dents and scratches from countless battles.
"Who is that?" one of them asked.
"His clothes… they look like they're from the Elf Kingdom. Is he some kind of ambassador?" the second replied.
The third man, wearing a hood that cast his face in shadow, spoke next. "We need to keep an eye on him for now. He looks strong—don't provoke him. As long as we don't bother him, he won't bother us. Just stay focused and continue what we came here to do."
With that, the hooded man turned and walked deeper into the alley. The other two followed, though their lingering gazes made it clear—they were still very curious about the man.

After a few hours of walking the fastest route through the city, Adrius led Eccar to the outer wall of the kingdom. The wall was built from solid grey stone, thick and imposing. Hundreds of guards stood watch at various posts stationed along its perimeter, encircling the inner part of the kingdom.
They ascended the wall using Adrius's magic and landed near one of the guard posts so as not to alarm the sentries by appearing out of nowhere.
The guards who noticed them gave Adrius a respectful salute, and Adrius responded with a simple nod. After that, the guards returned to their duties, though their eyes still lingered curiously on Eccar.
Eccar looked out over the land beyond the wall. It stretched into a wide, grassy plain for several dozen meters before giving way to a vast forest filled with towering trees.
"So, what do you think of our kingdom?" Adrius asked.
"It's actually amazing. There's so much going on, and it's all fascinating. Back in the Elven Kingdom… well, everything's a bit too organized. It's neat, white, perfect—almost boring. I barely ever left my room there," Eccar replied.
Adrius laughed. "Thanks for going out of your way to compliment us. But I'm sure what goes on in the Elven Kingdom is better than here. Like you said, they're neat. So I suppose they're also clean, right?"
"Hey, I didn't say your kingdom was dirty," Eccar retorted.
Adrius scoffed. "I did."
They stood in silence for a few seconds before Eccar said, "I need to head to Qomore now. Which direction is it?"
"We'll go together. I think I need to be involved in this matter too."
"Is it okay for you to leave your kingdom like that?"
Adrius shrugged. "I can return whenever I need to. Anyway, we'll depart tomorrow. Tonight, I'll speak with the king about all of this. That's the most annoying part."
"Haha. So the king here is annoying too, huh?"
Adrius then motioned for them to descend the wall. As they did, Eccar looked eastward, where he felt another tug on his Magic senses—but he didn't say anything to Adrius just yet.
