Erend sat stiffly in his chair. His eyes looking forward as the task force leader pointed at the projection on the wall. It wa a map marked with red circles and notes about enemy movement. It was the usual tactical briefing before a mission that he must do now as the member of this task force to catch the spies.

But just then, a tingling sensation brushed against his mind, sharp and familiar.

"Eccar," Erend thought, recognizing the signal. He inwardly sighed, hoping this wasn't something serious. This was not the best time to be dealing with problems from another world.

He accepted the call. "Yeah? Eccar? What's up?"

Eccar's voice echoed in his head, calm but direct.

"Don't worry, nothing too serious. We've arrived at Qomore Kingdom, met with King Roderic. Now we're staying in an inn in the city, trying to look for clues. But… to be honest, I don't even know where to start. I was wondering if you had any pointers from your end?"

Erend blinked, keeping his face neutral as the leader kept speaking at the front.

In his mind, he pulled up his System. The familiar interface appeared—Main Quest name, the same description as before. Nothing new. No updates.

"I checked my power…" Erend answered. "But there's nothing new. The quest's still the same as before. No extra hints."

"Hm… I see." Eccar's mental voice carried a tinge of disappointment, though he kept his tone steady. "Alright then. I'll keep looking on my end first. Maybe something will show up once we stir things around."

"Yeah… Sorry, I can't help much right now," Erend said, feeling a little frustrated at his own lack of answers.

"It's fine," Eccar replied with a low chuckle. "You focus on your job there. I'll handle things here for now."

With that, the mental connection faded, the telepathy coming to a natural close.

Erend exhaled quietly through his nose and tuned his focus back to the briefing just as the leader tapped the map again.

"And here—this is the last known location of the spy we're tracking," the leader said, his finger landing on a darkened sector near the edge of the city.

Erend straightened slightly in his seat. Whatever was waiting for him there, he'd have to deal with what happen here first, before worrying about old gods and awakening forests in another world.

The briefing continued without pause. The leader tapped a button, and a new image appeared on the screen: a grainy photo of a man with sharp features and dark hair.

"This is our target," the leader said. "Name's Varlen. A known operative working for enemy intelligence. His main objective appears to be gathering information about our experiments with Magic power at the facility in Avenridge City."

The room grew a little heavier at the mention of Avenridge. Everyone here knew how sensitive that project was.

"Our mission is to track him down and capture him alive," the leader continued. "We believe he's not working alone. He must have local contacts or a small cell helping him move around. Unfortunately, we don't have clear identification on his allies yet. That part will be up to fieldwork."

Then the leader's eyes swept across the room before settling squarely on Erend, Billy, and Adrien. His gaze hardened.

"This will be your job," he said firmly. "Find them and bring them in."

Erend exchanged a glance with Billy and Adrien, then they all nodded in unison, a silent acknowledgment that they understood their task.

The leader gave a small grunt of approval, then straightened. "Good. That's all for now. Dismissed."

With that, the meeting broke up. Chairs scraped back, and people began filing out of the room, voices already dropping into low conversations about prep work and equipment.

Erend stayed seated for just a second longer, his mind already shifting gears—one part on the spy they had to catch, the other still faintly lingering on Eccar's call and the old gods sleeping deep in another world.

But first things first.

Erend stepped out of the briefing room, his mind shifting fully back to the mission at hand. He walked alongside Billy and Adrien toward the locker area where the rest of the task force was already gathering their gear.

Inside, the atmosphere was light but charged with focus.

Several members greeted them with nods and casual remarks, voices laced with a mix of respect and camaraderie.

They made a few jokes, saying they were counting on Erend, Billy, and Adrien to carry this mission on their backs, as usual. It was their way of showing trust — rough around the edges but genuine.

Adrien, ever the steady presence and bearing the rank of Captain and their squad leader, gave a confident smile in return.

He adjusted the straps on his armor and answered with calm assurance, saying he'd do his best to live up to their expectations. His voice carried enough weight to ease the tension but still kept things light.

With that, they all turned back to their tasks. Erend tightened the seals on his black combat suit, checking each piece with practiced hands, while Billy loaded his gear in silence.

Adrien finished his own preparations and gave his squad a final words before they begin.

When the last weapon was checked and the last lock clicked shut, all of them stood ready, fully geared for the special mission that awaited them.

Night had fallen over the city, and the streets glowed dimly with lantern light as Jan received word that the new party—outsiders who had drawn attention even in the royal palace—had left the king's halls and chosen to stay at one of the city's busiest inns.

Now, Jan stood outside that very place together with Hund, Esther, and Annette. The hum of voices and laughter from inside the tavern drifted out to meet them.

Esther crossed her arms and glanced at the building. "I thought it would be difficult to get close to them, especially if they stayed in the palace. But they picked the most crowded inn in town."

Jan gave a small nod, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

"Me too. It's good, though. Makes it easier for us." He adjusted his coat and turned toward the door. "Come on."

Without another word, the four of them stepped forward and pushed through the entrance, disappearing into the warmth and noise of the inn.
