Chapter 21: The Girl

The elder lich stretched out his hand and uttered a spell. "Wraith of death!"

The air grew cold as he conjured dark energy from his scepter.

A chorus of haunting moans filled the hall. as tall gaunt figures wrapped in tattered, smoke-like robes emerged from the scepter.

Their glowing red eyes burned with hunger and malice as they swarmed around me, leaving trails of shadows in their wake

The lich laughed with a dry rasp. "IT’S THE END OF THE ROAD FOR YOU, BOY. ONE SINGLE TOUCH WILL DRAIN YOUR LIFE FORCE!"

The wraiths shrieked then lunged at me. I closed my eyes and allowed them to phase through me as many times as they want.

The moment their ghostly form touched my body, they wailed in loud tortured screams.

Their forms began to dissolve into smoke and vanished.

The lich staggered back in shock. "WHAT IS THIS? YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD BY NOW!"

"Wraiths have no effect on me," I replied him, opening my eyes. "I bear the blessings of a Great Dragon. As such, Death magic has no hold over me."

The lich drew his head back in shock. "A GREAT DRAGON? IMPOSSIBLE. DRAGONS ARE EXTINCT. YOU ARE MAKING THIS UP!"

I pulled back my cloak and showed him the crest etched on my chest. "Does this look like I’m making anything up?"

A wave of fear must’ve rushed through him the moment he saw my dragon’s crest. He couldn’t believe his eyes.

"IT CANNOT BE!" He lamented. "I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT!"

"You had better believe it," I said, approaching him. "As long as I have this crest, no death magic can work on me."

The lich snarled then screamed, "UNDEAD KNIGHTS, ATTACK HIM! SLAUGHTER THAT MONSTER!"

At his command, the undead Knight’s charged at me, swinging their swords.

I had spent seven grueling hours practicing this magic that I learnt from the Red dragon’s library.

Now was a good time to test it.

"Devouring Void," My golden eyes gleamed as I whispered under my breath. "

A micro black hole began to swirl in my palm.

In an instant, it doubled then tripled in size, swelling into a whirling darkness the size of a shield.

The gravitational pull from the black hole shook the courtroom, cracking the stones beneath my feet and pulling dusts into it’s center.

The undead Knight’s slowly lurched to a halt as the vortex force of the black hole began tearing their weapons from their hands and armour from their bodies.

The black hole grew wider and wider, expanding to the size of a barrel.

Using my hands, I guided it around the entire courtroom, sweeping it’s consuming abyss at the undead.

Tables, armours and bones were all dragged into the black swirling sphere along with the undead.

The lich dropped his scepter to the floor. He had seen enough and knew didn’t stand a chance against me.

He knew that too well.

Fearing for his life, he tried to escape but it was already too late for him.

The vortex seized him into the black hole. He tried to claw his way to safety but the force of the black hole was so strong he was instantly sucked in.

"NOOOOO!" His voice stretched thin as the vortex swallowed him whole.

I snapped my finger and ended the spell. The black hole imploded with a thunderous boom and collapsed.

Silence gradually fell in the now empty courtroom.

The only one standing was me.

I opened and closed my hand as I felt the last remnant of the spell dissipating from my palm.

"I can only use this spell once a day," I murmured. "It consumes too much mana. But the result is totally worth it. Magic is so much fun."

My eyes landed on the scepter the lich dropped on the floor.

I bent over and picked it up. This scepter could summon a legion of undead. It might come in handy in the future.

I opened my Infinity Vault and put it inside. It’s a personal magic space that allows me to store and retrieve items instantly.

Very handy.

"How did you do that?" A voice said behind me.

I felt a chill wash over me as I turned around sharply.

There she was, standing a stone throw away from me and clutching hold of her staff. freewebnσvel.cøm

I recognized her instantly. She’s the brave girl who rushed in first into Red Gate.

My jaws dropped. Don’t tell me she saw everything.

"I saw everything," she said, approaching me cautiously. There was a sparkle in her big brown eyes. "Can you teach me how to become a powerful mage like you?"

I stared at this girl, wondering to myself how to get out of this jam.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching from the other tunnels.

One by one, the rest of the other candidates emerged from the tunnels and gathered in the courtroom.

They looked around, their eyes wide with surprise.

"The undead are all gone."

"Wow, someone finally defeated the summoner."

"I was having a difficult time making it through. I could have died if their onslaught continued."

"But who could have defeated the summoner?"

The girl was still staring at me. Before she could open her mouth to say something, I pointed my finger at her and uttered.

"She did it!"
