Chapter 1177: Thank Dominic’s breathing for that
[Reaper’s Base]
"Joker!"
Joker flinched when he heard Tiger’s roar. When he turned his head, his brain immediately screamed at him to make a run for it.
"Hey!" Joker put up a brave front while taking hurried steps back. "Whatever you’re trying to do, beating up a cripple makes you a dick!"
"The fuck?" Tiger slowed down, glancing at the other reapers who were just putting off the fire around the chopper. They were all looking at him with hostility and alarm, as if they were expecting him to do something vile and idiotic.
"I’m not here to break you up!" he threw his hands, approaching Joker slowly. "What are you guys doing?"
"Can’t you see? We’re putting out the fire," Joker haughtily sneered before shifting his eyes to the chopper. "I’m assisting them since who knows if this thing has some sort of secret self-destructive to it? Or maybe a tracker. If those guys know that kid is here, then they may have a tracker."
"By using that?" Tiger glanced at the handful-sized device in Joker’s hands, which had a little monitor attached to it.
"Yeah," Joker remarked, gazing down at this scanner. "Pretty cool, huh?"
"Yeah, but then again, they already came in here before anything else. So, getting tracked isn’t really a problem, since they already know where our base is."
Joker looked at Tiger dead in the eyes and said, "This is why I don’t get along with you. Sometimes, your brain just lacks muscle or perhaps, it has too much muscle —" Before he could even finish his diss, Tiger casually grabbed him by the chest and easily pulled him closer.
"What the — Hera will kill you if you hurt her star player!" Joker screamed in panic, knowing full well if Tiger wanted to beat him up, he would easily do so. "I mean it!"
"Well, I didn’t come here for you to bitch on me." Tiger’s tone was playful with a tinge of authority. "Tell me. How come Hera can freely stay on a call with Dominic?" ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Ah?"
"Don’t "ah" me. She’ll not willingly melt her ears with that earpiece if you don’t give her the green light. I wanna know what’s up?"
Joker tapped Tiger’s arm and the latter immediately let him go.
"Tsk." Joker glared at him while pulling the hem of his shirt. "I gave her the green signal because it’s safe. I’m monitoring their line."
"How?"
"What do you mean, how? Who do you think I am?"
"Joker, if you had the means to do that, you would’ve done it way before today. What’s going on?"
"Well, you’re right." Joker nodded while shifting half of his focus to the device in his hands. He then started walking slowly, going around the chopper. "It’s not actually me, but rather, Moose."
"Moose?" Tiger followed Joker’s pace. "What did he do?"
"It’s not what he did, but what he gifted Basti."
"Elaborate."
"That bastard acts like he doesn’t care, but in the end, he snuck his little ass behind everyone’s back and gave Basti a gift. It’s a smartphone made by some pathetic genius in the black market that is just perfect for a sneaky bastard like him."
"And Dominic is now using that?"
"Yeah. He’s using it and so, I simply had to manipulate Hera’s signal and all those things you won’t understand that wouldn’t be on the record." Joker paused as he faced Tiger. "Did you really think I’d let her do something I know she would regret just because she misses him? If you do, then I’m disappointed."
Joker snapped his tongue once more as he resumed his activity. "So, if you came here to know if it’s safe, then don’t worry."
"I’m not here because of that." Tiger sighed. "I want one."
"Huh?" Joker slowly looked back at Tiger in disbelief. "What did you say?"
"I didn’t come here because I’m worried Hera is putting everyone at risk. She can bring the inferno in here and put the world on fire for all I care, since we can put off the fire anywhere." Tiger straightened his back as he said. "I want that phone as well. Two, to be exact."
"..." Joker was speechless for a moment. "Are you saying you want a phone like that for you and Ivy Wei?"
"Who else am I going to give it to?"
"Hah!" Joker scoffed, but then, why was he surprised? "Well, I’m sorry, but like I said, it’s Moose."
"What about the one that Hera is using?"
"Well, that’s the only one in the world," Joker shrugged. "You know me, I don’t make or keep more than one of my products unless it’s necessary for the battlefield. Also, Hera is my biggest client for all my products and she doesn’t like others to have what she has, but you already know this."
"Are you saying I can buy it in the black market today?"
"Which part of what I said did you extract that understanding from?"
"Moose." Tiger rocked his head, completely ignoring Joker’s sarcasm. "I get it."
With that being said, Tiger walked away in a hurry while Joker was left behind like a stray kitten. Joker tilted his head to the side. But as he thought about it, a realization struck him.
"Hey!" Joker yelled. "There’s only two of those phones in the world! It’s no use!"
But Tiger didn’t stop nor did it seem he was listening.
"Shit’s gonna hit the fan," Joker hissed. "He’ll surely try to buy a pair and then he will see that his money’s gone!"
Joker felt the vein in his forehead pulsate at the thought. Hence, he called for someone around to continue what he was doing to find Hera. Joker didn’t have a hard time doing so because everyone knew where she was. All they had to tell him was for him to follow the smell of spring and it would lead it to her.
"Hera!" Joker called as soon as he saw Hera’s figure lying flat on the grass. "Tiger just came to me and I mindlessly told him that Moose bought those phones..."
"Tell the guys to get ready," Hera cut him off midsentence, eyes shut, but her tone exuded finality. "We’re going to end this soon, once and for all. My thread of patience just got burned down to the tip."
She slowly opened her eyes, keeping them partially closed as she stared at the bright sky. "This time, it’ll be the last and I’ll make sure of that."
Everything that Joker wanted to say immediately disappeared from his mind and was replaced with questions. "Did something happen to Dominic? Weren’t you on the call with him?" — she should be in a great mood, right?
"He still is." Hera kept her eyes on the sky, her eyelids drooping. "And he nodded off. So, while listening to his breathing, it made me wonder... why the hell am I getting satisfied just by listening to his voice when I could be there with him?"
Just when Joker thought that a day of freely spending on a call with Dominic would put her in a good mood, Joker was wrong. It only burned the last shreds of patience she was holding onto.
"Do you think it’s a good time?"
"There’s never a good time, but I got all the cards I needed. Dom, too." Hera closed her eyes again. "Let Tigers explain the details of our discovery. I’ll join you guys once I deal with Ulysses."
"You will kill him?"
"No." The side of her lips curled up. "I just had a better idea of how to use my cards more effectively. Thank Dominic’s breathing for that."
