Chapter 1199: Kill them!
"Kill me... and all my men, including the other families, will disintegrate the entire Oxley Family to smithereens. However, take my side and I will reassure you the Oxley Family will secure the number one spot. I think our brief exchange here is enough for you to see who better fits the title. Now, take your pick."
Florence couldn’t help but laugh out loud at everything Hera spewed. It was ridiculous!
"Hera Cruel, you called me foolish just because I let you in?" she repeated in between her laughter. "Don’t you think there’s a reason for me why I let you in in the presence of my people?"
Florence slowly turned and faced her lovely niece squarely. "Oh, goodness. You truly remind me of Felice. All you do is talk big, but when it comes to this family, you are nothing but a selfish little coward who thinks they could do everything they want."
"Hera Cruel, if you think using mere words is enough to sway my people, then you have underestimated us!" she added with a sneer. "Say everything you want to say, but they are my people. They might agree with you on some things, but they’ll never fight for you."
Hera’s eyes glossed over at everyone, only to see the displeasure in their eyes. "It seems you are right," she said. "The Oxley Family looks like a loyal bunch. I guess I insulted them when I asked them to choose me?"
"You are young, my lovely niece," Florence smirked. "So don’t feel bad for making mistakes here and there."
"I never felt bad making mistakes." Hera smacked her lips. "Oh, my god. My brother’s gonna kill me if I die here."
"My men are already searching for your brother. So, do not fret. He might die before you." Florence raised her chin as she shrugged mildly. "Unlike you, there’s nothing I’d like to hear from him."
"Tiger won’t die that easily, you know?"
"That is why I sent a hundred men to kill him."
"Huh?"
"I heard your sworn brother is a man worth a hundred men. Even if he manages to fight half of them, I don’t think he’ll last that long. And if by a miracle he’s still alive after those hundred elite soldiers, then another hundred are on standby, ready to take him down."
"A hundred men... all for one man." Hera slowly cast her eyes down as her jaw tightened. When she raised her head, the corner of her lips curled up. "You... flatter him, Florence. But if he heard you, he’d say a thousand isn’t enough."
"Gloat all you want, but your biggest mistake is stepping foot in my house instead of dying in yours." Unfazed, Florence slowly took a step back. "It was pleasant meeting you, my lovely niece. It’s a shame that you... have to die. I meant that."
With that being said, Florence was done with her. Thus, she turned around and listened to the clip-clop of her heels. After several steps, her lips parted as her order rolled out of her tongue.
"Kill her."
This time, without wasting a breath, every armed man around cocked their rifles and aimed them in Hera’s direction. However, instead of pulling the triggers as they had usually done in the past, they didn’t.
Florence’s steps halted as she heard this particular click from a direction. Raising her eyebrow, she slowly twisted her neck in a direction, only to see a small pistol aimed directly at her.
"Nigel," she hissed. "So in the end, you would betray me?"
Nigel swallowed a mouthful, unfazed by the ridiculing look in Florence’s eyes. "I am sorry, Madam. However, I am doing this for the sake of the family."
"For the family? Hah!" Florence scoffed. "And how is pointing your gun for the sake of my family?"
"Hera Cruel came here alone, which means she sent her people somewhere else," Nigel explained solemnly. "Madam, please do not make your people die in vain. I will forever serve you, even if you’re not the head of the family. So please, don’t make me do this."
A thick layer of frost coated Florence’s eyes while staring at Nigel. In other words, Nigel was asking her to back out and step down in a fight she picked.
What a joke.
"Nigel, it seems you do not understand your disposition." Florence slowly adjusted her position and faced him. "You are in that spot because my father put you in there. I let you keep it just because Charlotte likes you. However, it seemed to mistake it as something you can leverage with."
Her mouth curled up into a smirk as a glint flickered across her eyes. "You are replaceable, Nigel."
Nigel’s expression turned pale as his heart sank. However, the unwavering determination in his eyes was clear to everyone. This flamed up the growing anger in Florence’s heart, but it also earned Hera’s praises.
"Nigel, I hereby sentence you to death for betraying the family," Florence announced. "Kill him along with Hera Cruel."
"Wait!" Hera raised her hand before they started drilling holes into her body. "You guys sure are not taking my side? Nigel said it himself. I didn’t send my people here because I sent them elsewhere. Do you know where?"
Her lips stretched until her teeth were on full display. "One of my charms is that I don’t purposely send my men to their demise. I think of ways to get what I want without inflicting too many casualties. So, knowing the Oxley Family were expecting us, I sent them to places where they weren’t expected."
"For instance..." she paused and let the tension rise. "... The Capeti and the Ashton’s."
The soldier’s expression turned even more grim, but some of them couldn’t help but look in Nigel’s direction. After a second, at least fifteen out of fifty soldiers inside shifted their guns to their comrades.
"Hah!" Florence ground her teeth as her face contorted, seeing several of her men turning against her. "All these traitors... Kill them!"
"Ten units and a handsome butler? My loots are not bad! Those ten people and their units, don’t forget who you now fight for. Wear a bandana so I won’t accidentally kill you," Hera grinned happily before her eyes glinted malevolently, making her eyes appear like they were the color of blood. "Joker! You better be ready because these guys are gonna kill me for real!"
The second those words rolled out of her tongue, Florence furrowed her brows. Just then, she noticed some little insects crawling on the walls of the great hall and before she could wonder what it was, the walls exploded.
