Chapter 1224: Hadn’t reached the finish line, have you?

[Oxley Island]

"Goodness."

Ivy stared at the ruins of the Oxley Mansion and shook her head. Since the end of the battle, she had been working hand in hand with Interpol, the Secret Society, and even as the minister’s assistant. This matter involved the Secret Society, and because of that, all of them were discreet about it.

They wanted to keep this under wraps, which was for the best.

Still, seeing the main battlefield brought a tightness to her chest.

"He was here?" she murmured, thinking about Tiger.

Ivy was around the area during the battle. However, she was on a battleship. Even though she witnessed the fierceness of the battlefield, she couldn’t imagine how it was to be in the middle of the chaos.

Tiger was on this very hill, inside these ruins. If she didn’t see how things unfolded, she would never understand the dangers Tiger always faced as a member of the reapers.

She heard Tiger was safe and was recovering from his injuries. The last time she heard, he still hadn’t woken up. Ivy didn’t want to hear further details and buried herself with work, thinking it would lessen her anxiety and worry.

"Miss Wei."

Ivy snapped back to her senses when someone called her.

The person who called her stood beside her, updating her on the state of the island. They were checking for any survivors and also retrieving any bodies left. Interpol lost a few people, and as much as possible, they wanted to return the fallen soldiers to the bereaved families.

"Are there still any bombs around?" she asked after understanding the state of the island.

"We heard from the head butler of the Oxley Family. He said that he knew about the bombs and secretly defused them without Florence Oxley’s knowledge," explained the man.

"If that’s the case, how come this mansion collapsed?"

"He didn’t know about the bombs placed in the mansion."

Ivy nodded in understanding. "The bomb squad is already on their way. We aren’t sure if there were any other bombs the head butler didn’t know about. It’s best if we retrieve everything."

"Yes, ma’am."

"For now, continue with the search."

"Yes." The soldiers saluted the woman in charge before leaving her alone.

Ever since the search started, they already found over twenty people from Interpol and the Oxley family combined who were trapped on the island. Most of them were injured but still alive. However, they put up some measures with the soldiers of the Oxley because they weren’t sure if they were Florence’s men.

Looking at the people around the mansion, Ivy let out a faint sigh.

Her phone buzzed at the same time. Checking who it was, she quickly answered as it came from the office of the military.

In no time, Ivy found herself preoccupied with the current matters at hand and the incoming calls. Despite having split this job with Axel, Elliot, and Lukas, Ivy felt they still lacked manpower. However, she didn’t complain.

After a few hours, her shoulders felt stiff.

Getting up from her seat in the temporary tent they set up, she saw that everyone was already tired.

She picked up her walkie-talkie and spoke. "I think we can call it a day." She then cast the people in the tent a look.

"I’ll head to the Silvers’ territory," she announced to avoid worrying them, as they were all members of the Secret Floor. "Axel called. He said Dominic had already regained consciousness."

Relief washed over everyone’s faces upon hearing the news.

"Can you stay behind and assist everyone?" she asked, and the people didn’t hesitate to agree.

"Miss Wei, you’ve been working hard before and even after the battle."

"Yes, don’t worry about us here for now."

"We’ll call you when we need your help."

"You should go and rest."

"Seriously? How can Miss Wei rest when she’s going to the Silvers where the minister is recuperating? Now that he’s awake, I’m afraid she can’t rest at all!"

Ivy couldn’t help but chuckle, seeing that their reassuring looks changed into worry. She could even read their unspoken thoughts. It looked like they wanted to ask her if she could make an excuse not to see Dominic.

"Don’t worry. I’m just going to visit Dominic. He’s still not allowed to work, so I’ll rest as soon as I can."

Having said that, Ivy grabbed her stuff and rode the mobile service to the shore. Since there was a big-scale search, there was no shortage of transportation. All thanks to Lukas Silvers, who provided them with almost everything they needed.

When she reached her destination, a boat was already prepared for her. The Silvers Island was six hours away from this island via ship. Hence, her route would be to ride a speedboat to the nearest island, which was two hours away via speedboat, and then from there, she would ride a helicopter.

"Miss Wei!" called the person from the speedboat, rushing to her to assist her. "Let me help you."

Ivy smiled. "Thank you."

But just as Ivy reached for the person who would bring her to the next island, she heard a rotor sound not far away. She turned her head and her brows rose, catching a speedboat approaching the shore.

"Hmm? Who..." she squinted before her eyes slowly widened.

Her heart pounded against her chest as she held her breath. Her lips quivered slightly, keeping her eyes on the person driving the speedboat. She retrieved her hand from the person assisting her, waiting for the speedboat to reach her.

Once the speedboat did, she watched Tiger jump out of it hurriedly. His hair was still frozen in place because of the wind, but he didn’t care. When he turned his head, he immediately locked eyes with her.

For a second, Tiger found himself frozen. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

The tension in his shoulders slowly dissipated, and he heaved a sigh of relief now that he could see her. His eyes softened as he saw her eyes gleam with tears, almost making him choke on his breath.

"You..." he whispered, the corner of his lips curling up slightly. "... hadn’t reached the finish line, did you?"
