Chapter 1378 - Xerneas vs. Yveltal
Just as Yuga was at a loss, the Poké Ball at his waist suddenly trembled. Reaching back, he found that it was Absol's Poké Ball.
After releasing Absol, Yuga asked, "Absol, what's wrong?"
"Absol~"
Absol let out a cry, then lifted its foot and walked straight into the Forbidden Zone of Life before Yuga even had the chance to stop it.
To Yuga's surprise, nothing happened to Absol after it entered.
The black orb on Absol's forehead floated out, spinning rapidly as it extracted wisps of black energy from the ground beneath its feet. As the black mist was drawn out, the scorched earth beneath Absol slowly transformed into a normal yellowish-brown color.
"Absol~"
After finishing this process, Absol turned back and called out to Yuga again.
"You want me to go in?" Yuga asked in astonishment.
"Absol~"
Absol nodded its firmly.
"Alright... I guess?"
Trusting Absol, Yuga nodded in agreement.
Clenching his teeth and shutting his eyes, he stepped into the small restored patch of land. Sure enough, nothing happened.
"It really is safe!" Yuga said in delight.
However, when he looked at the black orb on Absol's forehead, he couldn't shake the feeling that it was a hidden danger—though it had certainly been useful this time.
"Absol~"
At that moment, Absol crouched down and called out to Yuga once more. Yuga knew it was offering him a ride.
Right now, the only way to enter Allearth Forest safely was through the black orb, so without hesitation, Yuga climbed onto Absol's back and let it carry him deeper into the Forbidden Zone of Life.
However, what Yuga didn't know was that the moment the black orb appeared, a nameless lake outside the Forbidden Zone began to stir.
Within the lake, a massive black cocoon trembled violently, releasing an overwhelming surge of black mist. Every blade of grass and tree surrounding the lake turned to ash the moment they came into contact with the dark energy.
With Absol and the black orb's assistance, Yuga was able to traverse this dead land unhindered. Along the way, the black orb continuously absorbed the black energy from the ground and air, purging the ominous aura wherever they passed. For the first time in decades, the lifeless state of Allearth Forest finally began to change.
Yet, as the black orb absorbed more and more of the black energy, Yuga's unease grew stronger. He had a sinking feeling that something bad was bound to happen.
Still, his concern didn't deter him from continuing his exploration of Allearth Forest. Whatever dangers lay ahead, he would face them head-on.
For three to four days, Yuga rode Absol through the vast wasteland, cleansing nearly half of Allearth Forest. However, he still hadn't found any sign of a large Electric-type Pokémon colony.
The Forbidden Zone of Life was completely devoid of any living creatures. Whether day or night, an eerie silence blanketed the land. Anyone who stayed here long enough would probably go insane. Even Yuga felt a creeping sense of irritation.
As more black energy was absorbed, Yuga noticed that the black orb was growing darker and deeper in color. At one point, it even attempted to break free from Absol's control and fly away, but Absol managed to suppress it just in time with the power of the Seed Of Unknown.
By the fifth day, Yuga still hadn't found anything. He decided it was time to leave. He had a strong premonition that if he stayed any longer, the black orb could cause disaster.
Once he left, Yuga knew he had to find a way to deal with the orb. He hadn't realized the danger before, but now that he did, he couldn't allow such a potential threat to remain attached to Absol.
It was undeniable that the black orb had made Absol much stronger, but Yuga would rather see Absol grow through steady training rather than rely on something as unstable as this.
However, just as Yuga resolved to leave, the black orb suddenly erupted. It had accumulated enough power and now attempted to break free from Absol's control, shooting off into the sky.
At the same time, terrifying fluctuations suddenly erupted from the northwest of the Allearth Forest, followed by a pillar of black energy shooting straight into the sky. The Black Orb seemed to be drawn by this energy pillar, struggling desperately to break free from Absol and the Seed of the Unknown's control, trying to fly toward it.
Just as Absol and the Black Orb remained locked in a stalemate, Yuga saw the black energy pillar slowly contract. Once it condensed into a black sphere, a massive bird spread its wings and flew out.
The bird's speed was incredibly fast. In no time, Yuga realized it was getting closer and closer to him. When he finally saw the creature's appearance clearly, his heart filled with horror—this wasn't just any bird; it was Yveltal!
"Absol, run!!" Yuga shouted immediately.
Hearing Yuga's command, Absol bolted toward the outskirts of Allearth Forest, all the while still struggling to suppress the Black Orb.
But Yveltal was far too fast. No matter how hard Absol ran, Yveltal continued closing the distance.
If it had been any other Legendary Pokémon, Yuga might have considered fighting back. But against Yveltal? No way. The terrifying deathly aura in its attacks was too overwhelming. Just looking at the devastation left in the Allearth Forest was enough to understand its destructive power.
Engaging it head-on would be way too reckless!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Despite Absol running at full speed, Yveltal quickly caught up and launched an attack at them.
Absol frantically dodged while fleeing, but everywhere that had been purified by the Black Orb instantly reverted to a dead wasteland when struck by Yveltal's attacks.
As Yveltal got closer and closer, Yuga grew more and more anxious. He also realized that leading Yveltal out of the Allearth Forest would be a huge mistake—if he let it escape, the disaster it could bring to the outside world would be on his hands!
If he hadn't brought the Black Orb here, Yveltal wouldn't have awakened in the first place!
Suddenly, an idea struck Yuga. If the Black Orb had the power to awaken Yveltal... then what about the Bright Orb? Could it awaken Xerneas?
If Xerneas appeared, he wouldn't have to fear Yveltal anymore. It might even be able to seal Yveltal away again!
With that thought, Yuga hurriedly took out the Bright Orb from his system storage.
However, the moment he retrieved it, Absol could no longer suppress the Black Orb. Under Yveltal's pull, the Black Orb shot toward it at incredible speed, merging into Yveltal's body in the blink of an eye.
"Yveltal~"
A chilling cry echoed through the sky. Now that it had reclaimed the Black Orb, Yveltal had become even stronger—this was Yveltal in its fully awakened form!
But when Yuga looked down at the Bright Orb in his hands, he realized... it wasn't reacting at all.
Let alone summoning Xerneas—it wasn't doing anything.
"Yveltal~"
Yveltal showed no gratitude for Yuga bringing it the Black Orb. Instead, it launched another fierce attack toward him and Absol. Left with no choice, the two of them fled in a desperate scramble. Getting even brushed by Yveltal's attack would be deadly!
As time passed, the areas purified by the Black Orb once again turned into barren wastelands under Yveltal's onslaught.
Now that the Black Orb was gone, Yuga and Absol had lost their protection. Their safe zone kept shrinking, and yet they still couldn't afford to lure Yveltal outside the forest.
In his frantic escape, Yuga failed to notice that as Yveltal flew over a certain area within the land of death, a forest flickered into existence for a brief moment before vanishing again, as if it were nothing more than an illusion.
As Yuga ran, he realized that Yveltal was closing in on him. With no other options, he desperately prayed, Xerneas, oh Xerneas, if you can hear me, please come and take care of this disaster!
As if responding to his plea, the pearl in Yuga's hand suddenly emitted a pink beam of light, extending far into the distance.
Seeing the pink light, Yuga's heart leaped with joy. Could this be showing me where Xerneas is?
"Absol, run in the direction of the light!" Yuga shouted.
"Absol~"
Absol didn't hesitate and accelerated with all its might in the direction Yuga pointed.
As they crossed the purified area, the dark energy quickly surged toward them. Yuga's heart sank—this is bad!—but to his astonishment, the pearl in his hand flashed, and the dark energy was instantly repelled.
With the pearl's protection, Yuga and Absol no longer had to hold back. Following the light's guidance, they soon reached the edge of the Allearth Forest. Just beyond this point, they would leave this death zone entirely.
Is Xerneas outside?
For a moment, Yuga hesitated. If they left, wouldn't Yveltal follow them out as well?
"Absol, go!"
There was no time to think. Gritting his teeth, Yuga gave the command. Right now, finding Xerneas was the only way to resolve this disaster, and the pearl's guidance was their sole hope.
I can't believe I brought this trouble on myself and got nothing out of it! Yuga thought bitterly. Damn that stupid system, what a scam!
"Absol~"
At Yuga's command, Absol dove straight into the dense forest ahead. Right behind them, Yveltal burst out as well, its attacks withering every tree in its path.
Luckily, Yuga and Absol didn't have to run much farther before a massive ancient tree, radiating a dazzling rainbow-colored light, appeared before them.
"Human."
A soft, melodious voice echoed in Yuga's mind.
Telepathy! Yuga's heart skipped a beat.
"Xerneas? Is that you?" Yuga shouted.
"It is I. I am the ancient tree before you," the gentle voice replied.
At that moment, Yveltal arrived, preparing to attack Yuga and Absol beneath the tree. However, the tree's canopy suddenly flared with a pink halo, sending Yveltal flying back in an instant.
Though Yveltal had just escaped the Allearth Forest, it was now forcibly sent right back in.
Yuga, watching this unfold with sheer amazement, failed to notice that the pearl in his hand was slowly floating toward the ancient tree. By the time he realized it, the ancient tree had already transformed into Xerneas.
"Thank you, human," Xerneas said warmly.
Decades ago, during the "Great Destruction," Xerneas and Yveltal engaged in a fierce battle, both sustaining severe injuries that forced them into slumber. If not for the pearl that Yuga brought, Xerneas would have been unable to awaken. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
The pearl and the black orb were originally parts of Xerneas and Yveltal's essence that were lost in ancient times. Over time, they fell into human hands and became sacred relics for those who worshiped the God of Life and the God of Destruction.
As time passed, the influence of the gods on humanity gradually diminished, and the followers of these faiths slowly disappeared. The pearl and the black orb were also lost in the river of history.
"Yveltal~"
Yuga had been about to say something, but Yveltal, which had been blasted away, once again took to the sky and unleashed a Dark Pulse from its mouth.
Seeing this, Xerneas leaped forward, soaring over Yuga and Absol's heads. The multicolored light shimmering on its antlers gathered into a pink energy beam, colliding with Yveltal's Dark Pulse.
Boom!!!
A deafening explosion erupted. The shockwave generated by the clash of these two legendary Pokémon nearly sent Yuga flying, but thankfully, Absol shielded him with its large body, blocking the blast.
With Xerneas now taking action, the destructive energy from Yveltal's attacks was contained within the boundaries of Allearth Forest.
After exchanging several blows, neither of the legendary Pokémon had gained the upper hand. At the same time, both of them activated their abilities—Fairy Aura and Dark Aura.
Pink and black auras expanded outward from the two Pokémon, quickly clashing and refusing to give way, with the border of Allearth Forest serving as their dividing line.
"Yveltal~"
"Xerneas~"
Yveltal's shrill cry intertwined with Xerneas' gentle yet firm roar. The two Pokémon launched their attacks once more—Yveltal's Dark Pulse condensed into a pillar of black energy, while Xerneas' Moonblast formed a beam of silver light. The two attacks collided once again, and neither side was able to overpower the other.
Since their long-range attacks failed to determine a winner, the two legendary Pokémon resorted to close combat. Yveltal folded its wings and charged forward with Dragon Rush, while Xerneas leaped up and countered with a powerful Megahorn.
Boom!!!
The moment they clashed, the force of impact sent them both flying backward.
Watching this, Yuga thought to himself: This can't go on. I have to help Xerneas.
He quickly recalled Absol into its Poké Ball. Without the black orb, Absol had grown weak and was in no condition to fight.
Then, he released Florges.
Yuga instructed firmly, "Florges , restrain Yveltal!"
"Florges~"
Florges nodded its head resolutely.
Just as Yveltal was about to take off again, countless green vines suddenly emerged from the ground, wrapping around its body and binding it tightly. It struggled, but couldn't break free.
This was Florges 's doing.
Before upgrading into a Legendary Pokémon, Florges wouldn't have been able to use this move in the lifeless wasteland. But now, things were different. Even though Allearth Forest lacked any trace of vitality, there was still Grass-type energy present.
The vines binding Yveltal weren't actual plants but rather manifestations of pure Grass-type energy.
"Yveltal~"
Yveltal let out a sharp cry, dark energy surging around its body in an attempt to corrode the vines. However, since the vines weren't real vegetation, they couldn't be eroded so easily.
Xerneas, now back on its feet, cast a grateful glance at both Yuga and Florges before using its signature move—Geomancy!
Unlike the offensive signature moves of other legendary Pokémon, Xerneas' signature move was purely supportive.
A white radiance bloomed beneath Xerneas' hooves, and a surge of energy rippled through its body. In an instant, its presence became overwhelmingly powerful, completely suppressing Yveltal.
