Chapter 43 - Making Money [1]

Kai's eyes fluttered open as he stretched his body.

He slowly surveyed the tunnel. Seeing no one around, he allowed himself to relax slightly.

[Kai doesn't shower anyone with anything.]

Smiling softly, he replied while ruffling Legion's wolflike fur, "Thanks, Legion."

[Did you just laugh? You do realize I'm your older sister, right?]

he asked, tilting his head.

[Yes, I am your glorious elder sister. Do you understand now?]

[Yes.]

Kai's smile broadened at their banter. "Damn, you two are messing with my head."

Pushing himself to his feet, he stretched his arms while letting out a yawn.

"That nap was necessary," he muttered before pulling out his phone. Upon seeing the notifications from both Elia and the school, he quickly tapped "read all."

Noticing the time and a missed call from the merchant Alpha had previously contacted, Kai sighed and pressed "call."

'Let's get this over with. This journey has been far more exhausting than I imagined.'

'Yes.'

[But Kai, if you get a high point score, are you considering relocating to the dorm?]

'I don't know yet.'

[It's where students reside.]

< Reside huh? If that's the case, let's move already. Maybe pick up some meat on the way, you know the saying, meat for life.>

'I bet you made that up.'

[Cough cough. Of course. Kai doesn't know many things.]

'Are you two trying to gaslight me now?'

[Who knows.]

Kai looked down the long tunnel with fatigue, then shifted his gaze to the map Alpha projected in front of him.

'Alpha, can Legion assist me in transporting... without me having to ride him like a horse?'

[No, not at your current level. That's why I advise purchasing a motorcycle.]

'That would be pretty badass,' he paused. 'Then it's settled. I'm getting a bike.'

[Do you even know what a motorcycle is?]

[...Kai, why can't you be half this agreeable with me?]

Channeling mana into his feet and sprinting forward, Kai responded, "Because I'm not weird."

---

"Excuse me sir." A young girl said as she passed him.

The bustling street, strangely reminded Kai of home.

It didn't take Kai that long to reach the main streets of the southern border.

Both high-rise and small buildings stood on either side.

Ordinary humans strolled along the sidewalks, some holding coffee, others chatting with friends or listening to music.

The sun cast its warm glow on the reflective glass of the most elegant buildings, and as with most of Meltonia, most structures were painted either white or lilac, with a few exceptions in soft shades like nude, sky blue, or other muted tones.

The building Kai was heading to stood on the fourth street, specifically number 14... The Astral Guild.

Kai's gaze briefly swept over the structure a few meters ahead before dismissing the map.

'Do you think any high-ranking individual might be there?'

[I highly doubt it.]

He lingered. 'Better safe than sorry.'

Sending Legion ahead to scout the building, he stepped into a café painted pink and took a seat by the window.

'Now let's see,' he said as his eyes faintly glowed, activating Shared Vision, a skill Legion possessed that allowed them to see through each other's eyes.

Everything Legion saw, Kai could also perceive, and vice versa but only with Kai's permission.

Gliding through the shadows, Legion soon reached the front of the towering skyscraper.

Its entrance was made of transparent glass, likely crafted by a drifter. The doors were automated yet sealed tightly enough to prevent even air from seeping through. This meant Kai had to find another way inside.

Without needing a command, Legion began scaling the glass walls, prompting Kai to clutch his stomach as nausea surged up his throat.

'Damn, a little warning would've helped.'

Kai rubbed his eyes and momentarily deactivated the skill before reactivating it.

By then, Legion had already reached the top floor, peering through the glass in the most inconspicuous manner. Kai's nerves finally settled.

'No one's in the guild. Not even the guild master. Looks like the parliament meeting is going smoothly,' he thought, slowly rising from his seat.

An employee, noticing his lack of interest in ordering, approached him.

"Sir, are you not interested in our products?" a voice inquired respectfully.

Before Kai could respond, another voice rang out from behind the counter. "You old fool, how many times have I told you not to speak to customers like that? Can't you see he's a noble?" The voice belonged to a red-haired woman, slightly older than Neko-sensei.

Kai turned to her and spoke politely, "I don't think there's anything wrong with what he said, so..."

Before he could finish, she interrupted, "I know you mean well, sir, but this isn't his first offense. I was already planning to terminate his employment this week, isn't that right, Ren?"

'Ren?'

The man in question had neat black hair, an average appearance, tired black eyes, and tattered clothes.

Through his gaze, Kai saw only one thing—himself. Or rather, Kim Seoyoung.

But that wasn't the focus. The man standing before him was not an ordinary mana user like Kai had been in his past life.

'Ren' a character often described as unattractive due to being surrounded by beautiful individuals, was one of the named characters from ICUWSA, Cassie's best friend and business partner... the greatest Merchant.

[What kind of luck are you having today?]

'Tell me about it. Meeting the greatest merchant before he even became someone, this can't be a coincidence, right?'

[I doubt that matters now.]

"Alright, pack up, Ren," the woman commanded.

Ren dropped to his knees, groveling. "Ma'am, I beg you, please, I can't afford my sister's medication without this job."

'That's right... The reason Ren adored money was because his sister died of illness. Looks like we've found another route to a perfect life.'

[Let's keep stacking up.]

The woman scoffed. "I don't care if it's your girlfriend, sister, or mother, just get out of my store."

The man sobbed and pleaded. Kai waited for his frustration to peak before speaking.

"Miss," he addressed.

She turned to him with a smile. "Yes, young lord. Just disregard this worthless man."

Kai shook his head and eased back into the café chair. He couldn't appear too aligned with commoners if he was to act like a true noble.

He leaned back, interlaced his fingers, and rested them under his chin, giving the two a faint smile before speaking. "Do you believe you have the right to tell me who to disregard?"

His tone was sharp, nearly piercing. The woman stepped back in alarm, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

"I... I'm sorry, young lord," she finally murmured, lowering her gaze.

Smiling gently, almost devilishly, he replied, "That's alright."

He then turned to Ren. "Now you, what do you want?"

Ren's eyes widened at Kai's words. A strange sense of reverence washed over him. After what felt like a minute, he whispered, "I want to save my sister."

"No matter the cost?" Kai asked.

"No matter the cost," he replied hastily.

"In that case," Kai said, glancing at the startled red-haired woman, "How much do I need to pay to take him off your hands?"

The woman flinched before whispering, "I wouldn't dare take money from someone as esteemed as yourself."

Kai's gaze swept the room before settling on her. "I won't dare."

She lifted her eyes and smiled.

'Damn it, don't agree. I don't even have that much money.'

[You're the fool playing king.]

'Come on, help me out here.'

[...No.]

'Tch,' Kai clicked his tongue mentally, still awaiting her response.

The woman stared at the striking figure before her; his domineering presence seemed to engulf the entire room. "Young lord, I know you're destined for greatness. If you take me under your wing, everything I have will be yours."

'Is this a cultivation novel?'

[High heart rate stabilizing.]

'Shut it.'

"But you don't own him, do you?"

The woman lowered her gaze once more. "I apologize if I offended you, young master."

"Don't worry," Kai said, waving his hand. "I know you're just trying to find a stable place in this world."

He rose slowly, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I like that spirit."

Signaling Ren to follow, he headed toward the door. Before leaving, he added, "I'll send my subordinate to assist you."

Her face lit up with joy. Bowing repeatedly in gratitude, she exclaimed, "Thank you so much, young lord. I'll await your message with sincerity."

Kai waved once more as he exited the café.

[What subordinate? What help?]

'Haven't you heard of bluffing before?'

[I have, but weren't you the one ranting about not giving people false hope?]

'That was a different situation.'

[Really now?]

'Yes.'

Legion asked, slipping back into Kai's shadow.

'Nothing much,' Kai replied, his gaze drifting to the figure shyly trailing behind him.

'Now, onto the main task. Time to acquire another ally. I can't let Ivy handle all the business, and Cassie has her own duties...'
