Chapter 116: Long Bo’s long hands.
Long Bo’s order was ignored by the soldiers and royal agents alike. Mingzhe’s orders on the other hand were not. While everyone’s heart was thrumming intensely from all the unexpected excitement, two imperial soldiers jumped dramatically on He Yuan, knocking over Long Bo as they arrested his bodyguard. He was not just knocked over, he was kicked in the shin and it was deliberate.
"Jun Mingzhe!!" Long Bo gutturalized the name like a an angry animal.
Mingzhe stood up and faced the emperor, inclining his head politely. "I apologize for my actions your highness."
Junjie waved the apology away. "You told me that you would be making an arrest of someone close to me tonight so I was prepared for some theatrics. I just didn’t expect you to fire a weapon."
Those around them were surprised. This was a planned arrest!! Why did it have to be done in their presence and why had a gun been fired? Professor Jack was certain that his blood pressure was through the roof.
"He touched his gun and I was afraid that he would attempt to take you hostage to weasel his way out." Mingzhe said in a cold voice.
"I saw it." Ringo confirmed.
He Yuan was put on his feet but he was struggling, fighting against the soldiers. One of them elbowed him in the ribs ruthlessly, making him hunch over, groaning in pain.
Long Bo heaved angrily, "Jun Mingzhe what do you mean by this? Why are you arresting my guard?" He looked Emperor Junjie, "Why are you watching this happen? Your majesty, even if you favor the Jun family..."
"You are so stupid." Ringo cut in, shaking his head. "With all due respect Prince Long Bo, we are simply carrying out our duties. There is no correlation between He Yuan’s arrest and our surnames. I might as well tell you his crimes and then you can tell us if you are involved somehow." free𝑤ebnovel.com
Mingzhe tapped a his smartwatch and a hologram the size of a small vertical table appeared. "Fifteen years ago, He Yuan broke into the Pear Scientific Park and he stole two research papers and three models of a next generation space ship that he sold to a French spy. Ever since then we have been watching him."
Gasps went around the room as the video of He Yuan breaking into the park was played. Nearly everyone in the room glared daggers at He Yuan, wishing they could beat him up.
Scientific research was one of the backbones of the empire. Competition between nations was tight, they had to guard against thieves jealously. And yet, there was never a shortage of traitors like He Yuan that were willing to sell out the empire for money.
"Damn asshole." Someone cursed.
Ringo presented the new evidence, he was not looking at He Yuan but prince Long Bo, his master. "He seemed to stick to the straight and narrow path, taking on a job as a bodyguard to the prince. Recently we have uncovered evidence that proves he is involved in Ivory smuggling.
Not just ivory but antiques and relics some of which are national treasures like, the third Jade Phoenix seal which was stolen six years ago. The Eternal Lotus crown of prince regent Feng Juan, a scroll of heaven’s mandate and the silk pearl which is said to be a crystallized tear of Emperor Zhou Ze."
The mention of each relic that had been stolen and sold abroad had everyone holding their breaths or increasing them. Professor Jack finally fainted and he was rushed out of the room by soldiers.
After he was carried out, Ringo looked at Prince Long Bo and asked, "Altogether, these relics sum up to six and a half billion. Do you know anything about this Prince Long Bo?"
Prince Long Bo shot to his feet, snarling angrily as if he had been offended. "Are you trying to pin this one me?"
"Well, you have long hands." Ringo chuckled.
"What do you mean?" Long Bo quizzed, folding his hands into fists. He was a like a cat whose tail had been yanked roughly.
"I mean that you are a prince and Hue Yuan got his hands on many royal relics." Ringo clarified.
Long Bo jutted his pointy chin out, "I have nothing to do with this." He turned to He Yuan, eyes flashing viciously. "I am warning you, do not get me involved in your crimes. I hired you because you are retired soldier that served with a friend of mine. I have taken care of your family generously like I care for the families of all my people. I do not know why you were too greedy to the extent of betraying the empire but I am not involved and do not count on me for help."
He gave Junjie the stiffest of bows and stormed out of the room, furious, if sparks could fly they would be coming off the top of his head.
Mingzhe and Ringo read the subtext. Prince Long Bo was warning He Yuan to keep his mouth shut and go down for the crime or his family would be wiped out.
"Like I said, long hands." Ringo muttered.
"Leave us and take him." Emperor Junjie commanded.
Everyone left, including the members of the royal family. Only Mingzhe and Ringo remained.
Junjie sat down and gestured for the two to do the same as he had questions to ask.
"I know that my face is the last one you want to see up close but all things aside I am the Emperor and you are my subjects. Your worth to me has never been in doubt and I sincerely appreciate all you do to keep the empire safe.
That said, I need to know if my uncle involved in this and how deep it goes. Is anyone else in the royal family participating in the theft of national treasures?"
Ringo almost sneered, but he covered it up with a cough. "Why do you think I said that Long Bo has long hands? Your uncle is knee deep in this but he has covered his tracks quite well so we can only arrest some of his subordinates. I think Long Bo is ambitious, too ambitious that he probably harbors greedy intentions for the throne."
Mingzhe’s crossed one leg over the other and leaned forward. "He is the biggest instigator behind the scenes, trying to poke holes in the relationship between the families that are loyal to the crown and you. Half of the morons you consulted for advise before Mo Liang returned had already been bribed by him."
Junjie made a silent wince. He had been waiting for one of them to bring up Mo Liang at the same time, he had been hoping they would sweep it under the carpet. "I apologized to aunt Chi Lian and uncle Jun Muyang. I even sent an apology to the entire family chat group. Why haven’t I been forgiven?"
Ringo folded his arms. "Speaking of...why are you in our family chat group? You are neither a Chi nor a Jun. You are not even one of the strays my sister-in-law picked up, human or animal."
