Chapter 61: Pearl Space Camp opens. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Just before the cutting of the ribbon, emperor Long Junjie showed up. His arrival excited the crowd almost as much as the moment the national space baby called Mo Hao daddy and the spontaneous Q&A that Mei Mei had permitted.

The reporters that had left to chase after Mo Liang regretted it as they rushed back to The Hollow. They had a feeling that it was too late for them to catch up. Their bosses were already berating them for making a foolish decision.

They had not got any exclusive news by chasing after Mo Liang as they had not been allowed on hospital grounds and Tang Yue rejected all interviews. Meanwhile, other media houses had been lucky enough to speak to Jun Meilin, question her about the affair, score an invitation to drinks with her and the CEO of Phoenix media.

Now, they were covering the opening of the camp, the emperor had come with his own scissors and he declared the space camp open.

After the opening ceremony, emperor Junjie followed Mei Mei inside into the tallest building which was named Moon camp. The reporters and the crowd followed them as well, children were excited to see what the camp had in store for them.

For many little ones, camping meant fun and games which is what they expected.

The twenty six employees, Feng Qi and Jingzhe divided the people into groups to give them separate tours at the same time.

All the workers, including Mei Mei first changed into their uniforms, suits of different colors, according to the sections where they worked. Mei Mei had chosen the zero gravity playground so she was in a sleek silver suit.

When she reappeared before the group in her suit, excitement overwhelmed the children. Reporters cameras flashed eagerly because her suit looked better and more futuristic than the ones the space pilots and other experts wore.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Mei Mei started. She lowered her eyes to look at the children. "And future space explorers, welcome to the birth of imagination." She raised her hands like a magician waving a wand and a floating hologram appeared.

It showed videos of adults and children playing various games while floating. Many adults wondered if the reality would match up to the dream because such scenes existed in movies. In reality, not so much.

"Without further delay, let me show you what Pearl space camp has to offer. This is our zero gravity playground, first up we have a zero gravity soccer or orbit ball field."

A screen shimmered and the playground became visible to all. Amidst gasps, people rushed to get closer to the glass like barrier that was separating them from the field. A group of young testers was already inside. They were all robot butlers but a new kind that could not be detected by earth’s machines.

The players got to work, gliding through the air, bouncing off invisible walls and they chased a glowing, comet like ball. One player managed to get the comet into the opposing teams net and somersaulted only to burst into tears when it turned out that the goal was offside. It made most parents laugh and the reporters loved it.

"Genius C4, you are a genius." Mei Mei praised her system.

The tour moved to dodge ball, some children had to be pulled away forcefully from the soccer area.

"The emperor will be very happy to demonstrate for us this game." Mei Mei said with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Let’s cheer him on."

Long Junjie was not happy or willing to demonstrate, he had a feeling that Mei Mei was simply looking for an opportunity to beat him up with balls. Reluctantly, for the sake of the press and eager children, he was suited up and then her joined Mei Mei on the field.

"There are two types of dodge ball." Mei Mei shared."

Emperor Junjie who was just getting used to floating lost balance and fell but did not touch the ground, he fumbled around, arms flailing and kicking his feet like a frog which made the adults and children snicker.

Before he could find balance, Mei Mei was already hurling a ball at him. It hit him right on the forehead, making him spin around.

"Well, now we know that the mighty dragon emperor cannot dodge a ball. Kids, that is how you slay a dragon, with a ball not a sword." Mei Mei joked. As the people snickered, she introduced another kind of dodge ball.

This one involved energy spheres that zipped unpredictably, thrust out of invisible space. They were like comets on fire and their glowing trails lit up the faces of the children.

"Who wants to volunteer?" she quizzed.

A dozen hands went up, adults and children all wanted to try it out. They were suited up and sent in. The children were dodging with gleeful shrieks while their parents danced on pins, anxious about how challenging or dangerous the game seemed.

"Do not worry parents, it does not hurt much if the balls hits your babies. The pain is like the prick of a needle, just enough to remind you that you are alive." She said.

A grown woman fainted.

"I guess she is afraid of needles." Mei Mei mumbled. Medics rushed to attend to the woman and in ten seconds, she was on her feet, conforming that she was afraid of needles indeed.

Mei Mei made another joke to make the people feel at ease. "Why did the needle bring a lollipop to the doctor’s office?" She allowed a five second silence and handed the woman that had fainted a lollipop. "To sweeten the deal before the jab."

Some people laughed, some did not not, either way, they were having a good time.

At planetary capture, Mei Mei again involved the emperor, making him and his agents form one team while some parents and children formed another. "In this game, team work is everything." she said in a stern reminder filled voice like an army instructor. "The more planets you capture from your enemy, the higher your chances or winning."

An orb fell from the sky and a startled child clung onto her father’s arm.

"You must also keep an eye out for other obstacles and protect your teammates. If you capture an orb, it can be used as a weapon against the enemy." She got the orb and handed it to the little girl that was clinging to her father. "Here baby, why don’t you blast the emperor to pieces."

"Jun Meilin.." Emperor Junjie growled.

Mei Mei put her hand on the orb and helped the little girl to fire in the direction of the emperor. His agents dove in front of him, floating like balloons all around him.

"That is not how the game is played, the emperor’s team has lost." Mei Mei declared.

The children shrieked, simply happy to be on a winning team.

From there, they moved to galactic relay race. In the first game, Mei Mei once again put the emperor and his agents up against a team of children. This time when they lost, it was deliberate because they could not win against four and five year olds.

"Should we give the emperor a time out?" Mei Mei asked the children.
