Chapter 70: Reunions and screams.

It was a night unlike any other at Jiang’s Oasis, one of the city’s most exclusive bars were the rich liked to party. The bar was famous for its AI bartenders with an attitude and holographic DJ’s that played beats so good that even the drinks seemed to dance. The atmosphere at Jiang’s oasis was always inviting, the human bartenders and servers, extraordinarily good looking.

Celebrities competed every year for the opportunity to endorse Jiang’s Oasis. It was a place where secrets if the ultra-rich and famous were whispered. One secret could be the difference between a life of poverty and one of wealth.

Tonight, it was even more crowded that usual and yet security had been multiplied, only specific guests were being allowed into the bar. Money alone could not buy one an opportunity to mingle with the children of the nobles and ultra wealthy that were partying inside.

The reporters that had been at the opening of Pearl Space Camp where the only members of the media allowed inside. The rest stood outside and took pictures of guests as they arrived, sulking as they missed the opportunity to be among the guests.

They constantly checked their phones, waiting for an update from the mighty little peepstar.

In walked the VIP of the night Jun Meilin, in an outfit that left the guests amazed. They expected to see her in a dazzling dress, jewelry dripping from her hair to her toes. Instead, she was dressed as if she had plans to involve herself in combat later on.

Then again, divorce was combat, many thought, especially those that had been divorce before. Whatever her choice in outfit was, tonight she was celebrating her divorce from Mo Lang-the man she had once given up her glittering world for.

They had all seen the videos of him kneeling outside Phoenix group for three days to convince her mother to allow him marry her daughter. He had promised her forever and sunsets and instead delivered arguments, emotional abuse, a mistress and a bastard child.

As Mei Mei sauntered to the stage where the holographic DJ’s were spinning their beats, she was joined by Rose and Jiang Ruby, the owner of the bar. She was the niece of Jiang Cherry, her uncle Ringo’s wife.

Hugs and squeals were delivered first. The volume of the music was lowered and a microphone was handed to Mei Mei.

The crowd of familiar faces which had loved her once for her generosity, passion with a dash of craziness that never failed to entertain watched her eagerly.

A robot bartender brought over the champagne and handed a glass to each of the women. Mei Mei held her glass up and said, "To my ex-husband-the black hole of my past, sucking in all the fun and never giving anything back! May his spaceship run out of fuel on a planet of Klingon’s."

Thanks to Chi Lian and Phoenix entertainment, Star trek was a famous series of movies on the Blue star. It was a large franchise and almost everyone in the bar knew at least one or two fictional alien species. Some knew them all.

The joke landed and the crowd loved it. The women left the stage, the music was restarted and free drinks started to flow like a river. Rose took Mei Mei to an upper floor lounge where the VIPS sat. They could oversee the rest of the crowd better while keeping a safe distance.

Mei Mei did not leave Jingzhe behind, she made him join them and he sat next to her, handing her wine, snacks and responding to questions from Rose.

When Mei Mei removed her jacket, jaws dropped.

Ruby covered her eyes and laughed. "The queen of scandal returns."

"Hey its just a shirt, if they don’t want us wearing it they should not be selling it." Mei Mei answered, but she was laughing as well.

As chaotic laughter increased in their group, camera flashes did the same. Mei Mei raised her glass to the paparazzi dramatically. "Yes darlings, I am back--as fabulous as ever."

Seeing her smiling so care freely and interacting with everyone, her old friends couldn’t help wanting to go closer to take a look.

Chen Zhilan was the first to approach, almost tipping over a bag that someone had dropped on the floor. Mei Mei caught her, saving her from the fall.

"Almost a decade and you have yet to learn how to walk in high heels Zhilan." Mei Mei laughed softly.

Chen Zhilan righted herself and smiled in response as she said, "I would have given them up if someone had stuck around to judge me more often. Or maybe I would have found my balance."

Mei Mei tuned her head to Rose and she yelled over the slightly loud music. "We need some slippers, size six."

Rose produced the slippers from her bag, they were size seven but Zhilan made do anywhere. As she squeezed in next to Mei Mei, the rest of their friends approached as well.

Rong Meihua and Tao Taiyuan, squeezed into the chair as if there was no other space around. To make Mei Mei comfortable, Rose shifted to the single sofa and Jingzhe sat where she had been.

"Do we have to squeeze into the same chair after all these years?" Mei Mei asked.

"Yes." Meihua laughed. "We have missed you in case you did not get the memo. And we are angry with you by the way?"

A few awkward beats passed and then Mei Mei pulled her friends into an awkward hug as her hands could not reach everyone. Like puppies, her friends clung onto her, Zhilan even moved and sat on Mei Mei’s lap to get a more comfortable hugging position.

"I missed you too, terribly." Mei Mei admitted. "If it is any consolation, I was cheated on by the jerk that made me cut you all out of my life so that was karma."

Their laughter and reunion was captured by a news drone hovering in the air before Rose gestured for it to get lost. As the friends started to reminisce about old things and update her on their current lives, more and more people came over to welcome Mei Mei back to their circle.

Kang Shengjie was one of those people, he was the son of Professor Kang Yuze one of Jun Muyang’s closest friends. He was from the Kang family and a close friend of Mei Mei’s in the old days. He was two years younger than her so he been like a little brother when they were growing up.

He was a now an imperial soldier, serving under Jun Mingzhe.

"Mei Mei." he bellowed and literally carried her out of the chair. "Look at you all free and out of the cage. I flew all the way from S city just to see you."

There was nothing reporters loved to blow out of proportion more than a relationship between two people of the opposite sex. Cameras flashed even more than before at the sight of her in the arms of another man.
