Chapter 138 - 138 : Going to Asgard

At the same time...

After several people nodded in agreement, Stephen immediately formed a dimensional portal with both hands. Golden sparks flowed steadily from his Sling Ring, and the full image of Asgard shimmered into existence on the other side.

Without wasting a moment, everyone stepped through the portal and arrived in Asgard without incident.

The scenery was breathtaking. The sky glowed with a majestic blend of cosmic hues, and dense fog rolled over the town, giving everything an eerie, quiet beauty. A deceptive calm, peaceful and silent.

Although Gorr the God Butcher had once brought devastation here, the people of Asgard had worked tirelessly, and most of it had been restored.

"Where should we go now?"

Spider-Man—Peter Parker—frowned slightly, scanning the surroundings with cautious eyes. He examined every corner, his senses alert.

"Let's go inside. If I'm right, Thor should be in the palace right now."

Finn led the group forward with steady steps.

Inside the magnificent, gleaming palace, the Asgardians sat in a solemn circle, their faces grim as if deep in tense discussion.

Suddenly, everyone turned their eyes toward the entrance. Upon seeing Finn and the others, several rose and approached quickly.

"Finn. It's been months—why are you here now?" Thor's voice boomed as he stepped forward, greeting Finn, Doctor Strange, and the others.

Finn offered a slight smile. "We're here for something important. Life-threateningly important."

His eyes scanned the gathering. He noticed Valkyrie, but Jane Foster—Mighty Thor—was nowhere to be seen.

"Where's Jane Foster? I don't see her," Finn asked without hesitation.

As soon as he said it, the atmosphere dropped like a stone.

Other than Stephen and the Earth-bound heroes, everyone's mood visibly fell. Eyes welled up with tears.

"What's going on?" Finn's tone shifted—serious, a subtle tension curling in his words.

"Sit down," Thor said, placing a firm hand on Finn's shoulder. "This isn't something quick to explain."

Soon, everyone found a place in the palace's great hall, surrounded by intricate Asgardian architecture glowing with ancient runes. Thor began to speak.

He explained that after their battle with Gorr, they had indeed managed to rescue the children, though the ordeal left many wounded. Still, all made full recoveries—physically, at least.

Except one.

Jane Foster had been battling cancer for some time. Her transformation into Mighty Thor had given her strength, but also cost her dearly. Each time she wielded Mjolnir, it drained her mortal energy, accelerating the disease rather than healing it.

Eventually, her body could no longer keep up. When she lost Thor's power, her condition deteriorated rapidly. Pale, frail, her vitality fading, even Asgardian healing couldn't fight a force as merciless as cancer.

Despite every effort—magic, science, even gods' intervention—nothing worked. freēnovelkiss.com

In the end, Jane Foster passed away... with a smile on her face.

Listening to the story, Finn nodded quietly.

As a time traveler, he already knew of this part of the timeline, but experiencing it in real time still struck a nerve. This version of events held a rawer truth than what any record could show.

Yes, Jane Foster had terminal cancer. The only reason she lived as long as she did was thanks to Mjolnir and the power of Thor, which kept her going... until it didn't.

In the end, not even the gods could save her.

"Was there no other way?" the Scarlet Witch—Wanda Maximoff—finally asked, her voice soft but sharp with disbelief.

She had fought alongside Jane, respected her as a warrior. Losing her felt personal. Painful.

Valkyrie shook her head, lips tight. "We tried everything. I didn't want to accept it either. But she's gone... really gone. It's like reaching into the wind—you can feel it, but you can never catch it."

"She deserves peace... in Valhalla, with no more pain." Thor's voice cracked, and a tear rolled down his cheek.

He had tried. He would have given his godhood for her, but even gods have limits.

Just as the mood dipped into a quiet sorrow, a sudden surge of energy burst across the realm.

It was distant—yet massive. It trembled through the foundations of the palace like a silent earthquake.

Every pair of eyes went wide. Pupils shrank.

Thor stood up abruptly. "What the hell was that? That wasn't normal. I felt something—a massive energy fluctuation. Far, but strong. Did any of you feel that?"

He looked to the group—especially Finn.

"Is this what brought you here?" Valkyrie asked, slowly standing, her grip on her sword tightening.

She had suspected something from the moment they arrived. Now the tremor in her soul confirmed it.

"That's right," Finn said. "Before we came here, we sensed a divine presence. Subtle, back then. But now? It's much stronger. And here in Asgard, it's almost undeniable."

His eyes scanned the group.

"It seems I was right."

Valkyrie nodded in confirmation.

"What's going on?" Thor demanded, still trying to piece everything together.

Stephen Strange stepped forward and filled Thor in on everything—how this new godlike force seemed to be spreading its influence, slowly but steadily, and how Finn had intercepted its presence just before it became this intense.

Once Thor fully grasped the situation, he frowned deeply. "No wonder you all came straight here. We hadn't heard anything directly... but now I see it."

"Don't worry, friend. We're here to save the world," Peter Parker said, standing tall with a wide grin.

"Quiet, Spider-Man," Wanda said with a helpless sigh, shaking her head.

"So what now?" Thor asked seriously, his warrior instincts taking over. "If this is the threat you speak of, what's our next move?"

"That energy just now... You all felt it. I believe some god is behind this," Finn said, eyes narrowing. "But I don't know which one. We don't have all the answers yet."

"You suspect it's Loki?" Thor asked bluntly.

Though mischievous, his brother wasn't evil. But history had its scars.

"No," Finn replied without hesitation. "Loki's been many things—but this doesn't feel like him. This is something else."

"Then what do you suggest?" Valkyrie asked.

"The best thing we can do is investigate here—Asgard is the source. That energy surge just now was strongest here. If we dig, maybe we'll find something."

Finn's voice was calm, yet determined.

Everyone fell silent for a beat, then slowly nodded.

"Well... if you're all in agreement, then I won't object," Thor said, nodding resolutely.

And just like that, the room—once filled with grief—found a new resolve.
