Chapter 92 - 92 : Reason

The town at the base of the Himalayas was shrouded in an icy fog.

Whoosh!

Households had their curtains drawn tightly, shutting out the bitter cold. The wind howled through the streets, carrying an eerie, cutting chill.

In the snow-covered town, a crimson figure moved forward through the storm, her steps slow and heavy.

Wanda Maximoff.

Her eyes were vacant, her expression hollow. The biting wind whipped through her thin crimson cloak, yet she felt no cold.

Pedestrians along the road pulled their coats tighter, their gloved hands shoved deep into their pockets. At the sight of a lone woman, barefoot and barely dressed in the middle of such unforgiving weather, their curiosity was piqued. Some paused, sparing her strange, lingering glances.

Whoosh!

A powerful gust of wind sent an involuntary shiver down their spines, prompting them to pick up their pace, fleeing from the unsettling sight.

"Wanda! Where are you going?"

From behind her, two familiar voices rang out.

Stephen Strange and Wong.

Seeing her, their tense expressions softened—momentarily relieved. They had been worried she might do something reckless.

But Wanda paid them no mind. She kept walking, unfazed. Beneath her eerily calm eyes lurked an abyss of something darker, something far colder than the wind and snow around her. The light that once shone in them had long since faded.

"Stephen, stop her. I have a bad feeling about this..." Wong muttered, unease evident in his voice.

"Wong, it's easy to stand there and say that," Stephen replied grimly. Without another word, he took a step forward and lowered himself to Wanda's side, moving with measured caution. "Wanda, I'm sorry, but I can't let you leave Kamar-Taj right now."

His voice was firm, but not unkind. His sharp, intelligent eyes studied her expression—so eerily serene that it sent a chill through him.

If she left now, he had no doubt that disaster would follow.

"I just want to clear my head," she said quietly.

But Stephen wasn't fooled. Her words were empty—her tone devoid of anything resembling sincerity. The emptiness in her eyes told a different story.

"I understand," he said carefully, "but for your own safety—and everyone else's—come back with us."

He knew exactly what Wanda was capable of.

If she left, unchecked and unrestrained, the aftermath would be devastating.

"I'm in a bad mood, Strange. Don't push me," Wanda warned, her voice carrying a quiet, dangerous edge. She quickened her pace.

Her fingers twitched. The air around her grew heavier, a barely perceptible tremor vibrating through the ground.

"Then hand over the Darkhold," Stephen pressed, his expression hardening. "I can't let you leave with it."

Silence.

Wanda stopped in her tracks. Slowly, she turned to face him, her scarlet-tinged eyes narrowing dangerously.

"And if I don't?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, but the sheer force of her presence sent a shudder through the air.

The temperature around them plummeted.

Even through the layers of his Cloak of Levitation, Stephen felt the cold pierce into him. Wanda wasn't just upset—she was teetering on the edge.

"Then I'll have no choice but to stop you." Stephen's tone was unyielding.

The moment the words left his lips, the air between them exploded.

Wanda moved first.

Scarlet energy surged from her fingertips, a concentrated blast of Chaos Magic tearing through the air toward him like a bolt of lightning.

Stephen barely managed to throw himself out of the way. The blast missed him—but the town behind him wasn't as fortunate.

BOOM!

A section of the town was obliterated, leaving behind a gaping hole and a fiery wreckage of debris.

Stephen's jaw tightened.

"Witches are such a headache," he muttered under his breath. His hands moved swiftly, golden sparks igniting around his fingertips as he conjured the crackling energy of the Vishanti.

A bolt of Eldritch Magic shot from his hands, arcing toward Wanda with blinding speed.

She didn't move.

She didn't need to.

With a flick of her wrist, a scarlet shield materialized in front of her, absorbing the attack with ease. The energy rippled and dissipated into nothingness.

Boom!

The impact sent shockwaves through the snow, shaking the ground beneath them.

Wanda exhaled sharply, her breath visible in the frigid air.

"Move aside, Stephen."

Her voice had turned hoarse—low, raw, and seething with restrained fury. Her crimson cloak billowed around her, hair whipping wildly in the wind.

Her sheer presence was suffocating.

"Her power is increasing," Wong murmured, stepping up beside Stephen. His face was pale, his expression grim.

They had made a grave miscalculation.

Wanda Maximoff was far beyond their ability to contain.

"We can't let her leave," Wong pressed. "If she does—"

"I know."

Stephen didn't hesitate. He moved swiftly, his hands weaving through the air, golden runes forming in rapid succession. He cast his spell, summoning chains forged from the purest Eldritch energy.

The golden chains lashed out, wrapping around Wanda with perfect precision, binding her tightly in place.

For a fleeting second, they thought it worked.

"We got her!" Wong exclaimed.

But then—

Crack!

The chains shattered into thousands of pieces, disintegrating under the sheer force of her power.

A massive pulse of red energy erupted outward, sending both sorcerers hurtling backward.

Wong coughed, staggering to his feet, waving away the thick dust cloud surrounding them. His stomach dropped as he realized—

Wanda was gone.

"Stephen..." Wong's voice was quiet, yet heavy with unspoken dread.

Stephen stood still, his expression unreadable, his mind racing.

Wanda Maximoff had vanished into the unknown.

And if they couldn't find her soon—

The multiverse would burn.

Meanwhile, in another universe...

Under the dim glow of artificial lights, Finn— -—sat across from a man who had no business being there.

Lying on the cold leather couch, Finn stared at the ceiling, his expression unreadable.

"Explain," he muttered.

His tone was laced with frustration, laced with confusion.

It had only been a few months since he arrived in this version of reality—

And yet, someone already wanted him dead.

"A few years ago," the Scarlet Witch—this universe's Wanda—spoke gravely, "someone came to kill you. I couldn't stop them then."

Finn's expression darkened.

Nothing about this timeline made sense.

But one thing was clear—

Something was coming.

Something big.

And for reasons he couldn't yet understand—

He was at the center of it.

When she recalled that moment, it remained vivid in her mind, a memory she couldn't escape from.

"Even if I was there at the time, I couldn't have prevented it?" Finn asked, confused.

He knew the attack was coming, so why hadn't Wanda taken him away in time?

A sigh escaped the lips of the Wanda standing before him, though she wasn't his Wanda. "That's right, but when that person arrived, the moment he laid eyes on you in this universe, I saw something unusual—fear."

Finn froze.

If the attacker feared him, why was he so determined to kill him?

The contradiction gnawed at him, but a greater concern emerged.

This Wanda, who wielded Chaos Magic and had studied the Darkhold, had been powerless against the mysterious figure.

How strong was this person?

"And then what happened?" Finn pressed.

This story wasn't simple. There was more to it than he knew.

"After he killed you in this universe, he vowed to slaughter every version of you across the multiverse. Later, I realized that the chaos spreading across realities was caused by that man."

Wanda's gaze darkened as she relived the painful memory.

The mysterious figure was unimaginably powerful.

Even after studying the Darkhold, even with all the power at her disposal, she hadn't stood a chance.

"After he killed 'you' in this universe, I was lucky to survive the chaos. I understood his strength—I wasn't his match. I stayed here in this apartment, continuing my studies of the Darkhold and honing my Chaos Magic."

She took a deep breath.

Even now, the thought of that man's power sent a shiver down her spine.

She had always considered herself strong, but against him, she had been utterly helpless.

"Then you didn't destroy this universe?" Finn blurted out.

He had seen firsthand the devastation of a world. The force required to do that was at least on par with a corrupted Doctor Strange.

"Do you think so?" Wanda's eyes glowed red with suppressed emotion.

At that moment, she seemed almost fragile, as if she had been misunderstood for far too long.

"I didn't know before," Finn admitted, shaking his head. "But now, I believe you."

He could feel the sincerity in her words.

There was no deceit.

He was sure of it.

"Plum."

Tears welled up in her eyes. Her hands trembled slightly.

Finally, after so long, someone believed her.

A quiet joy stirred within her heart.

"Go on," Finn said, his voice calm.

Even though he believed her, he wouldn't let himself be swayed emotionally.

His love, his devotion, belonged to his Wanda.

The woman before him looked at him with mixed emotions.

She knew he would never turn back.

After composing herself, Wanda continued, "I've known of your existence for a long time. And later, through fluctuations in the multiverse, I finally found you."

She sounded both happy and disappointed.

Though she had found Finn, he wasn't her Finn.

They shared the same face, but they were not the same.

"Then why did you seek me out?" Finn's brow furrowed. His voice turned cold. "Was it to imprison me?"

Wanda met his gaze, unwavering. "I brought you here to protect you from being killed by that man."

She had her reasons.

The most dangerous place could also be the safest refuge.

The attacker would never think to look for Finn in the very universe where he had already been killed.

Even if the mysterious figure sensed Finn's existence and came searching, she would be ready.

She had spent years studying, growing stronger. She had no illusions of defeating him outright, but now, at the very least, she could hold her ground.

"Then do you have a way to stop him?" Finn asked after a long pause.

This enemy was too strong.

If Wanda couldn't guarantee victory, the outcome was inevitable.

He would be at risk.

And under the system's rules, his own power was still locked. If he revealed it too soon, all his progress would be for nothing.

Right now, he had to rely on Wanda to hold the line.

"When the time comes, I will fulfill my promise to protect you," Wanda said confidently.

There was no panic in her voice, no doubt.

She had changed.

She had spent years studying the Darkhold, growing her power.

Even if she couldn't defeat the mysterious man, she was certain she could get Finn to safety.

"But when will he arrive?" Finn asked, deep in thought.

He had things to take care of. He needed time.

"I've done the calculations. He'll arrive in five months."

Wanda's expression turned serious. "For the next five months, you need to stay here. If you leave, he'll find you much sooner."

She had gone through too much to bring Finn here.

She couldn't let him slip away now.

"No, I have to go back," Finn said firmly.

If he stayed away for too long, everything he had built would collapse.

That was something he couldn't allow.

Besides, his Wanda was waiting for him.

He would never abandon her.

"No, I won't let you go back! It's too dangerous!"

Wanda's red eyes flashed as she spread her hands. Her determination was unwavering.

She would rather fight him than let him walk into certain death.

"And America? Where is she?" Finn suddenly asked, realizing he had lost track of her.

"She's asleep in the guest room," Wanda answered, sensing his concern. "Don't worry, I didn't hurt her. I just borrowed some of her power."

Without that, she wouldn't have been able to bring them here safely.

"Wanda, I have to go back. Even if the mysterious man arrives, with Stephen's help, Kamar-Taj, and others, we have a fighting chance," Finn argued.

It was a lie.

He knew Stephen and the others couldn't win against someone who had defeated this Wanda.

But he needed more time. He needed to stay on course until his own power unlocked.

When that happened, nothing would be able to stop him.

Wanda stared at him.

She saw the conviction in his eyes.

And he was right. There was only one of him, but many potential allies.

Maybe together, they could resist the attack.

After a long silence, she exhaled. "Fine. I'll let you go back. But I'm coming with you. And I'm staying in your room."

Her red eyes shimmered with something unreadable.

A dangerous glint.

An almost seductive edge.

Like a beautiful flower hiding venom.

Finn's expression stiffened.
