My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 123: Flickering Light
The room was dim, the only source of light coming from the wide screen at the front of the home theater. Elion and Raelynn sat beside each other on the plush leather seats, separated by only the faintest sliver of space. The room was silent except for the hum of the projector and the faint rustle of Raelynn shifting in her seat.
The movie started with its opening credits rolling against a starry backdrop, but neither Elion nor Raelynn dared to glance at one another. Elion leaned slightly to the side, his elbow resting on the armrest, his fingers tapping lightly against the polished surface. His profile was sharp in the faint glow from the screen, and Raelynn found herself stealing quick glances at him before quickly looking back at the screen, pretending to be engrossed.
Finally, Elion broke the silence. "Are you… okay?" His voice was low, soft, but carried the unmistakable weight of concern.
Raelynn blinked and turned her head slightly toward him, offering a small smile. "Yeah, so far. I've thrown up a few times today, but it's fine. Nothing out of the ordinary."
Elion frowned, his brows knitting together as his hand curled into a loose fist on his lap. "Are you sure you should be here? Maybe you should rest instead."
Raelynn waved him off lightly, her voice laced with reassurance. "Nah, it's a good change of scenery. I feel fine, really." She hesitated before adding with a teasing lilt, "Don't worry so much. The baby's fine."
Elion's frown didn't ease. Instead, he shifted slightly in his seat, leaning toward her. "I'm not only worried about the baby, you know."
His words made Raelynn's breath catch. She turned her head to look at him, her eyes widening slightly. Elion's gaze was steady, holding hers with a depth she wasn't sure how to interpret. She quickly cleared her throat, breaking the moment. "Uh, right. So, the movie," she began, "It's a romance fantasy. The story's about two people from different worlds who have to work together to—"
Elion nodded faintly, his expression unreadable as he turned back toward the screen. "Sounds interesting."
Raelynn exhaled quietly, grateful for the shift in focus. She leaned back into her seat, watching as the film unfolded. The plot moved quickly, with vibrant colors and dramatic music filling the room.
Every now and then, Raelynn would make a small comment—pointing out a detail in the scenery or predicting what might happen next. Elion, however, remained silent, his attention seemingly fixed on the screen.
Still, Raelynn couldn't help but occasionally glance at him. His posture was relaxed but not entirely at ease. His jaw was tense, his lips pressed together in that contemplative way of his. After a few moments, Elion noticed her gaze and turned to her. "Why do you keep looking at me?" he asked, his tone more curious than accusing.
"To make sure you're not sneaking off to take a nap," Raelynn replied with a grin, trying to keep the mood light.
Elion huffed a soft laugh, shaking his head. "I'm not going anywhere."
As the movie continued, a pivotal scene began to play out. The male lead leaned closer to the female lead, asking quietly, "Can I kiss you?" before their lips met in a gentle kiss. Raelynn's eyes lit up, and she leaned forward slightly in her seat. "Oh, come on," she said, her voice filled with frustration. "That's not a kiss. It's just a peck."
Elion turned to glance at her, his lips twitching as though suppressing a smile. "I didn't realize you were such a critic."
Raelynn shot him a look before returning her attention to the screen. The scene grew more intense, the couple's chemistry undeniable as they touched each other with increasing urgency.
Raelynn felt a flicker of discomfort, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. She shifted in her seat, her gaze darting between the screen and Elion. To her surprise, he was watching her, not the movie.
Their eyes met briefly, and Raelynn quickly looked away, her cheeks warming. "Um," she started, hoping to dispel the awkwardness. "It's probably going to end soon."
But it didn't. The scene escalated, the characters shedding their clothing as their passion intensified. Raelynn's heart raced, and she found herself unable to focus on anything but the tension in the air. She stole another glance at Elion, who was still watching her.
"I think…" Raelynn began, her voice unsteady. "I think we should call it a night." She stood up abruptly, reaching for the remote to turn off the movie. "I'll just turn it off."
Before she could finish, Elion's hand shot out, catching hers gently but firmly. His touch was warm, his fingers curling around hers in a way that sent a shiver up her spine. "No," he said, his voice low and steady. "Why turn it off?"
Raelynn froze, her breath hitching as she turned to look at him. Elion was close—closer than she had realized. His face was partially illuminated by the flickering light of the screen, his eyes holding hers with an intensity that made her stomach flutter. For a moment, the world outside the theater room seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them suspended in the silence.
"Elion…" Raelynn whispered, unsure of what to say, her voice barely audible over the soft hum of the movie.
His lips quirked into a faint, almost teasing smile, but his gaze remained serious, unwavering. Raelynn couldn't tear her eyes away, her heart pounding in her chest as the air between them seemed to grow heavier, thicker.
Raelynn's pulse quickened as the distance between them closed further, the soft warmth of Elion's breath ghosting against her lips. Her breath hitched again, her mind struggling to piece things together. Their noses brushed, a featherlight touch that sent a shiver down her spine. Time seemed to slow, the muffled sounds of the movie a distant hum as the moment stretched between them.
"Elion—"
Before she could say more, Elion moved, his lips capturing hers in a kiss that stole the air from her lungs.
