Raelynn sat on the edge of her bed, her fingers tracing the fabric of the blanket. It wasn't just her bed anymore—not after earlier, when Elion had shared it with her. Her cheeks warmed at the memory, and she shook her head quickly, as if trying to shake the thought away. "Why am I even thinking about that again?" she muttered, giving her cheek a gentle slap.

The room was calm, but Raelynn couldn't shake the restlessness in her chest. Despite the quiet, her thoughts were a tangled mess, much like the tousled waves of her hair. The memory of Elion's kiss lingered stubbornly, replaying in her mind like a broken record.

It didn't mean anything, she had told him. But deep down, she wasn't so sure.

Before she could delve deeper into her thoughts, a loud knock on the door startled her.

"Raelynn!" Sloane's cheerful voice called from the hallway. "Are you good in there? I'm coming in either way."

Raelynn barely had time to respond before the door swung open, and Sloane stepped inside. She wore a playful grin, her hair tied back in a loose ponytail, and her eyes sparkled with mischief. In her hands, she carried two mugs of steaming tea.

"Morning, Elion's bride," Sloane said, handing one mug to Raelynn before flopping onto the bed beside her. "You look… disheveled. Long night?"

Raelynn frowned, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I didn't sleep well," she admitted, taking a sip of the tea. The warmth spread through her, but it did little to ease the unease in her chest.

Raelynn's fingers tightened around the warm mug, her eyes narrowing slightly as she glanced at Sloane, who was now comfortably sprawled across her bed like she owned it. How does she do that? Raelynn wondered, taking in Sloane's breezy demeanor. She looks so casual, like she wasn't the one who abandoned me last night with Elion, leaving us alone… which led to—ugh.

Her cheeks heated at the memory, and she quickly took another sip of tea, hoping the warmth of the drink would mask her flush. She gave Sloane a long, flat look, her expression deadpan.

"Tck." The sound slipped out before she could stop it, a soft but clear click of disapproval that made Sloane glance over with raised brows.

"What?" Sloane asked, feigning innocence, though the glint of mischief in her eyes suggested she knew exactly what was on Raelynn's mind.

Sloane's grin widened, and she leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Does this have anything to do with a certain brooding, impossibly handsome man? Hmm?"

Raelynn nearly choked on her tea, her cheeks flushing a deep shade of pink. "What? No! Why would you even—"

"Oh, come on," Sloane interrupted, waving a hand dismissively. "Don't play coy with me. Hera told me she saw you and Elion together. And not just together—she said it looked… intimate."

Raelynn's eyes widened in alarm. "Hera needs to mind her own business," she muttered, her voice laced with embarrassment.

Sloane laughed, clearly enjoying Raelynn's discomfort. "Relax, I'm not here to interrogate you. I just want to know… what's going on? Did something happen between you two?"

Raelynn hesitated, her fingers tightening around the mug. "Nothing happened," she said after a moment, though her voice lacked conviction.

Sloane raised an eyebrow, tilting her head as she studied her friend. "You're a terrible liar, Raelynn. Just be honest with me."

Raelynn sighed, setting the mug down on the bedside table. "Fine," she relented. "We… kissed. But it's not what you think! It was—it was just in the heat of the moment. It doesn't mean anything. Thanks to the stupid movie."

Sloane's eyes widened in mock surprise, and she placed a hand over her heart. "Oh, my goodness. You kissed Elion. Or wait—did he kiss you? Details, woman!"

Raelynn groaned, covering her face with her hands. "Why are you like this?"

"Because this is the most interesting thing that's happened in weeks," Sloane replied, pulling Raelynn's hands away from her face. "Now, spill. Was it a good kiss? Did it make your toes curl? Did he do that thing where he—"

"Sloane!" Raelynn interrupted, her voice high-pitched and mortified. "Gosh..."

Sloane laughed again, leaning back against the headboard. "Fine, I'll stop. But seriously, Raelynn… are you sure it didn't mean anything? And please don't drag the innocent movie into this."

Raelynn opened her mouth to respond, but before she could, a sudden wave of nausea hit her like a freight train. Her stomach churned violently, and her face paled. Without a word, she bolted from the bed and rushed to the bathroom.

"Sloane!" Raelynn called weakly from behind the bathroom door, her voice muffled. "I think I'm going to—"

The sound of retching cut her off.

Sloane jumped up from the bed, her playful demeanor replaced with concern. She knocked on the bathroom door, her voice gentle. "Raelynn? Are you okay there?"

Raelynn didn't answer immediately. She was hunched over the sink, her hands gripping the edges for support as she struggled to catch her breath. The nausea had subsided, but she still felt lightheaded and weak.

After a moment, she opened the door, leaning against the frame for support. "I'm fine," she said, though her voice was shaky.

Sloane frowned, her eyes scanning Raelynn's pale face and trembling hands. "You don't look fine," she said firmly. "Sit down before you pass out."

Sloane helped Raelynn over to the edge of the bed, her firm grip steadying her as she sat down. Once Raelynn was seated, Sloane crossed her arms and gave her a long, scrutinizing look, the corners of her mouth twitching as if she was trying to hold back a grin.

"You know," Sloane began, "you seemed to have no problem kissing Elion last night. But talking about it? Now that's apparently vomit-worthy."

Raelynn groaned, burying her face in her hands. "Please, Sloane. Not now."

"Fine, fine," Sloane replied with an exaggerated sigh, though her smirk didn't waver.

She couldn't tell if she was more annoyed by the vomit or grateful that she was off the hook about the kiss.
