The air in Elion's office was heavy. A dark cloud of frustration loomed over his desk, growing thicker with each passing second. His fingers drummed against the surface, his jaw clenched as he reviewed the reports Kade had compiled for their upcoming lunch meeting. But his mind was elsewhere.

The usually cold, collected man had spent the entire morning with a scowl, his fingers twitching as if restraining himself from lashing out at the next unfortunate soul to cross him.

Raelynn.

He let out a sharp exhale, his fingers tightening around the pen in his grasp. That woman was driving him insane. One moment she clung to him in the dead of night, trembling in his arms, and the next, she was pushing him out of her room, blushing so hard it looked like she'd caught a fever. Elion ran a hand through his dark hair in frustration. What was she thinking? What did she want? Why was she so difficult to understand?

Kade sat across from him, tapping his pen idly against the sleek glass surface of the table. He had been watching Elion closely all morning, observing every shift in his expression, every irritated sigh that escaped him.

Elion was not himself today.

"You look like you want to kill someone," Kade commented, finally breaking the silence.

Elion shot him a warning glance. "If you're offering yourself as a target, I'm happy to oblige."

Kade smirked. "Ah, so I'm right. Let me guess—Raelynn?"

At the mere mention of her name, Elion's jaw tightened. His fingers curled into a fist, then loosened, only to curl again as if struggling to suppress his emotions. Kade sighed deeply, shaking his head. "She really has a talent, doesn't she? Messing with you like this."

Elion exhaled through his nose, his irritation clear.

"You're sighing too much," Kade pointed out, shaking his head. "And you look like someone kicked your puppy."

Elion shot him a glare. "Since when do you have the right to comment on my mood?"

"Since I have to deal with you like this," Kade muttered, leaning back into his chair. "Honestly, Raelynn is truly amazing. I've never seen anyone twist you up like this."

Elion's fingers twitched. "Twist me up?" he repeated coldly. "She is merely unpredictable."

Kade smirked. "And that unpredictability is driving you mad."

Elion scoffed, choosing not to reply. The irritation bubbling within him was bad enough without Kade adding to it. He returned his gaze to the reports, but the words blurred together. Damn it. Even at work, she occupied his thoughts.

His mind kept replaying the morning's events—Raelynn's flushed face, the way she had bolted from the bed, how she stammered through her denial before literally shoving him out of her room. And the way her heart had been pounding when she did.

He had heard it.

Felt it in the air between them.

Yet, she refused to acknowledge it.

Kade sighed dramatically. "Look, I get it. You're not good with women, and you definitely don't know how to handle someone like Raelynn. But please, do me a favor and don't take your frustration out on the board members today."

"Since when do you have the right to tell me what to do?" Elion's voice was laced with annoyance.

He simply shrugged. "Since I'm the one who has to clean up the mess when you make the executives piss themselves." Kade replied lazily. "So yes, I am asking nicely."

Elion exhaled sharply and picked up the documents. "Fine. But if they say something stupid, I won't hold back."

Kade chuckled. "Fair enough."

The lunch meeting went surprisingly smoothly.

Despite Kade's concerns, Elion didn't snap at anyone, nor did he send anyone running from the room in terror. He remained quiet, responding only when necessary, his presence alone enough to keep the room tense. The executives spoke carefully, choosing their words wisely, knowing that one misstep could bring Elion's infamous wrath down on them.

By the time they returned to the office, Kade was feeling strangely victorious. "See? That wasn't so bad. You managed to sit through an entire meeting without scaring anyone half to death. That's progress."

Elion ignored him, stepping into his office. He had barely taken a seat at his desk when Kade followed him in, placing a small box in front of him.

Elion narrowed his eyes. "What is that?"

Kade grinned. "A gift."

"Take it back."

Kade shook his head. "Nope."

Elion's patience was wearing thin. "Kade. I am not in the mood for games."

"Oh, but you should be," Kade said, tapping the box. "Because this? This might just help you with your Raelynn problem."

Elion's eyes darkened. "You're testing my patience."

Kade simply leaned against the desk, looking far too pleased with himself. "Look, I know you're bad at dealing with women—"

"Kade."

"And I know Raelynn is making you feel things you don't want to admit—"

Elion's glare was lethal.

Kade smirked. "But! I think this might help."

Elion exhaled slowly, his fingers drumming against the desk. "You're playing a dangerous game."

Kade chuckled. "Come on, aren't you curious?" He slid the box closer to Elion, watching his expression with a knowing look.

Elion glanced between Kade and the box, his irritation growing with curiosity.

Elion wouldn't say it out loud, but Kade had him.

Everything about Raelynn—her thoughts, her feelings, the way she looked at him like she wanted to run but also wanted to stay—he needed to understand it. If there was even the slightest chance that whatever was in that damn box could help him figure her out, he'd take it.

His fingers twitched. An itch he couldn't ignore.

Don't do it. His logical side warned him, but his resolve was already crumbling.

Kade, ever the devil on his shoulder, leaned in with a grin. "Come on, Elion. You need this."

Elion clenched his fist, trying to fight the urge. But the longer he sat there, the more unbearable it became. The unknown gnawed at him, taunting him.

Damn it.

Finally, with a sigh, he reached forward, fingers brushing against the smooth surface.

Kade's grin widened. "Good choice, Boss."
