Chapter 155: Trouble With Amanda

(Arata)

Karsten walked inside, all stiff and tense. Unease settled in my heart seeing his glacial expressions.

Quickly leaving my seat I rushed to him and asked.

"Everything alright?"

I knew Urisa had been in his life since his childhood and it wasn’t easier for him to see her like that.

I didn’t know the reasons for their break up but it seemed like they had unresolved issues.

"Nothing, just people close to me trying to destroy whatever peace I try to find," he bitterly spat out, his hand reaching to crawl around my waist, pulling me into himself.

I willingly went, crossing my arms around him so he could hug me. His lips settled in my open hair, warming my whole body up.

"Sometimes people close to us don’t realise they are suffocating us but whatever issues you have with Urisa, it’s better to resolve them," I murmured, rubbing my hands up and down his corded back.

His body tensed, not because of my touch but, I could assume, because of my words.

Karsten separated from me so he could gaze at my face, his warm hands stayed around my waist. freёwebnoѵel.com

"My mom and Urisa are not the kind of people you can just talk to. They are firm in their beliefs and try to impose them on others as well. Not realising what they are doing."

I couldn’t even imagine someone forcing their beliefs down my throat. My family always respected each other’s opinions and provided space. Even when we weren’t on the same page, we tried to respect the choices of each other.

"I am sorry, I understand how burdening that could be."

"It’s fine. Get ready so we can leave for the office, I want to bury myself in work," he requested, letting my waist go. His features remained set in stone.

I wished I could comfort him, tell him it would change but I wasn’t even certain of what the future held.

This fake relationship was already messing with my head and mind. I didn’t know where we were headed.

Nodding at him, I squeezed his hard arm one last time and headed upstairs to change. Asbela followed me.

Once we had arrived in my room she advanced towards my closet to take out a suit for me while saying.

"Miss Marique’s visit always leaves a bad taste with the Master."

I nodded sadly and answered.

"He seems upset."

"He ought to be. She threatened his girlfriend." Asbela turned around and showed me the pants and blouse she had chosen while continuing. "Master loves you deeply, I can tell from the way he looks at you and protects you."

My eyes bulged out and I almost choked on my saliva. But I had to contain my expressions.

Love? Karsten didn’t do love. What was Asbela even rambling about?

"No, we just began dating. Love needs a very deep connection and time to develop." I tried to not make a big deal out of it.

Asbela advanced forward, placing the dress on my bed and grabbing my arms lightly.

"You are the first woman he ever brought home. Miss Marique comes but she is his childhood friend and Madame Camilla makes a lot of fuss if the Master doesn’t entertain her," she explained and then meaningfully smiled.

"The way he worries about you, the way he cares and gazes at you. I have never seen Master do that. It’s love, Arata, believe me."

My world seemed to have slightly tilted on its axis hearing her words. But I knew, Karsten needed to act like that to make this believable, no way could he fall in love. He cared because I was his acting girlfriend.

I just laughed it off for now.

"Yeah, we shall see. Help me change or his anger will shift to me."

Seeing my slight discomfort on the topic, Asbela didn’t push me further and got to the task of changing my bandages, applying the ointment and assisting me with my attire.

Soon I was ready with the office look. Grabbing my handbag, I headed down to find Karsten pacing the living space, while furiously typing on the phone.

His brows were furrowed even more and I couldn’t help but ask.

"Something wrong?"

He lifted his head and his dark gaze danced with irritation.

"Yeah, Amanda broke her ankle. We need a new showstopper. This fucking day started with a disaster and is continuing to spiral."

Shit! This was bad.

"Oh! Do we have a backup girl?" I asked, moving closer, seeing him ripple with tension.

"No one on par with Amanda but we have a few options."

And then as if a light bulb had been lit on his face and his forehead cleared of all those obstacles.

"I know you are trying not to come into the spotlight but would you like to consider fulfilling that role."

Me? No way was I fit to be a model. I had done my part of ramp walks but that was just for fun. This was an important event for the company.

"No, I can’t. I am not even in practice." I frantically shook both my hands in front of me and Karsten had to bite down his lower lip. If I hadn’t been tensed, I would have found the action extremely alluring.

"Let’s head to the office and then we can decide, come."

Quietly I let him take me to his car. The continuous calls kept him distracted and gave me time to consider it.

It did mean staying closer to Karsten.

We reached the office amidst this chaos and Ranold met us with his Cheshire Cat grin in the practice hall. Halima stood with him, seeming as if her most valuable possession had been stolen from right under her nose.

"How did this even happen?" Karsten asked.

"She broke her heel and twisted her ankle," Ranold answered with a meh expression.

Wasn’t he sleeping with her? He could show a tiny bit of concern.

"This is a disaster, no one can replace Amanda. What are we going to do?" Halima seemed on the verge of fainting.

"Well, the option is right in front of you. Why aren’t we considering Arata?" Ranold extended both his hands towards me.

Great, here we go.
