Chapter 175: Life Altering Allegations

(Arata)

He stood before me in his expensive suit and bowtie. The mousse brown hair gelled backwards as if he was Leonardo DiCaprio from Titanic.

But his words were the ones which angered me the most.

His eyes, which reminded me of shattered glass, held this softness today, which he always carried before he jerked my heart out.

What was he even rambling about?

Andy tried to take a step towards me, reaching with his hand but I stepped back. His face and hand fell and he didn’t mask the disappointment.

"We need to talk alone, it’s urgent." He opened the door of an empty room and invited me in with a pleading look. "Please! Just hear me out."

I looked around and reluctantly followed but remained super alert. He was never able to defeat me whenever we had a friendly duel so I knew if he decided to do something funny, I could take him.

I crossed my arms and deadpanned.

"You have two minutes."

He vigorously nodded.

"The truth, I only want to tell you the truth today. I could no longer live with the guilt, Arata. The guilt of what I did, learning you have started working for and dating the same guy who destroyed us."

Was he talking about Karsten? Confusion marred my features and my heart took a dive.

"Speak clearly, I don’t have time for your stupid riddles." I hugged myself tightly; the ache in my heart was becoming unbearable now, but I ignored it.

Andy huffed, slowly shaking his head.

"I am talking about Karsten Chevalier, your current boyfriend as per what I have heard from a source. He was the one who threatened me to break up with you or he would kill my family, starting with my niece."

My head spun at the blatant lies Andy was spinning.

How shameful one could get. He couldn’t see me happy. After destroying our future together when finally I had pushed myself to get over him, he was back to manipulation.

"You have some nerve, Andy. You think I am going to buy your bullshit after you openly embarrassed me and married another woman on the day of our engagement party."

The rage coursing through me, made my body shake like a leaf in the harsh winter wind. Tears were forming at the back of my eyes but I still kept my head high. I wasn’t going to crack and crumble in front of this shameless man.

"You don’t believe me? Didn’t you find it odd, the way I broke up with you? No one does that, Arata unless the person is being forced."

The rage almost made me blind.

"Shut up! You said you found my body disgusting and only dated me because of my family name and now you are knitting another story," I lashed out, my hands digging into the flesh of my arms. I wasn’t sure how long I would be able to hold myself against him.

Andy slowly shook his head, his face morphing into a pained one.

"I know what I said and regret that every day. I just wanted you to be healthy but you never disgusted me, Arata. I loved you, still do."

~Thwack~

My hand connected with his cheek as all my patience withered away.

"Shut uppp! Just fucking shut up..."

Andy placed his hand on his reddened cheek and faced me with saddened eyes. He didn’t step back or quit.

"I knew you wouldn’t believe me so I have evidence." He reached into his coat’s pocket and extracted his phone. After fumbling with it for a few seconds, he pulled out a video and played it, turning the screen towards me.

The video was of Andy’s five-year-old niece. The little child had been tied up, looking scared as hell with tears streaming down her cheeks. My heart almost jumped out of my chest from rage and anger at the sight. What sick head would tie up a child and film her crying?

A booming voice echoed, the voice which sounded like Karsten’s but I knew in my bones it wasn’t him. He was smarter than to use his real voice if he was to do something like that.

"Let go of Arata. Marry someone else tomorrow or I will send pieces of your niece to you. Once it’s done, she will be returned unharmed."

I remembered Andy’s sister suddenly had to go abroad in those days, and she was under Andy’s care. We all adored that little girl.

"Ninva was taken from our house while playing in the garden and we were asked to stay quiet. Any alert to police or you and he threatened to kill her," Andy remorsefully informed me. The tears shimmering in his eyes spoke volumes. They weren’t fake as he continued. "But when I obliged and married someone else after spewing hate for you. She came back to us unharmed, as promised. The man I was later able to identify through voice filtering as Karsten Chevalier."

My world trembled and crumbled; I shook my head; this couldn’t be true. Could it? Karsten would never.

Andy continued to speak.

"He had threatened my whole family with dire consequences so I didn’t go to the police. But when I learnt that you were working for him and had become his girlfriend, I could no longer stay quiet. He is dangerous, Arata. Stay away from him."

The neurons in my brain almost fried from the hyperactivity at that moment. Karsten wasn’t stupid to send a video in his voice so he could be found out. This was definitely someone trying to frame him, someone like my stalker.

But then I was reminded of the message I had received right after Andy broke up with me. The Arsten Empire never sent out random messages to hire people from other cities.

So why me?

Was it him or someone else trying to frame him?

So many questions emerged in my brain as tears leaked out of my eyes.

My whole life crumbled in front of me. If what Andy was saying was even half true then he had never ever betrayed me.

"Why should I believe you? It could be you who made that video using software to implicate Karsten," I shouted back at Andy, tears clogging my view.

Andy appeared sympathetic.

"I would do anything, but I would never hurt Ninva, and you know it, Arata." He stepped closer, trying to put his arms around me, but at that moment, I needed to get away from everyone and not be touched.

"Stay away from me."

Pushing him aside, I frantically ran out of the room. My dress flowed all around me as I sprinted and collided with a hard body.

"Arata??? What happened?" Karsten’s chilly voice seeped into my bones and made me extremely stiff.
