Chapter 202: She Blacked Out

(Karsten)

Arata’s words left me stunned. She cared so deeply, even after I broke her heart. I hadn’t smoked in front of her in a long time, and yet she always knew when I did.

I saw her hide her head back down under the quilt, disappointment clearly visible on her face.

Tossing the towel aside, I slowly lowered myself onto the sofa and lay down, picking my legs up.

Did she abhor my smoking so much, or was she only concerned about my health?

She was so near and yet I couldn’t even touch her. The memories of our lovemaking erupted inside me like fireworks, setting everything on fire.

I was so desperate that I wished she would return to me in my Azul persona. But she was even ignoring me there. She was smart, and her sixth sense must have been warning her not to trust anyone, especially a masked freak she hadn’t even seen.

Swirling in warm memories and the feeling of her lips, I fell asleep, only to be awakened by her shrill cry.

For a second, I thought I was dreaming, but then she cried out again, and I sprang up from the sofa. My sleepy eyes darted towards the bed, thinking she was struck in another nightmare.

But the bed was empty, and sound was coming from the bathroom. I rushed towards the door and found it locked.

Frantically knocking on it, I called out.

"Arata! What happened?" My heart was about to leap out of my chest.

Her pained voice came from inside.

"I fell and can’t get up..."

Worries clouded all my judgment at her words, and picking up my leg, I kicked the handle hard. It rattled but didn’t break.

Fucking door.

"I am coming...." I shouted back so she wouldn’t try to get up.

What if she were seriously hurt?

What if she had broken a bone or several?

Another kick and then another against the locked door. It rattled, and the handle finally dangled down, breaking apart.

At least those hours in the gym paid off in some way.

Frantically pushing it, I entered the bathroom like a hurricane and found her on the floor holding her foot. Her beautiful face was twisted with pain as she held my gaze. Seemed like she had hurt her foot.

"Where did you get hurt?" I asked, rushing towards her.

She breathed out, her hair sprawled all around her like carmine snakes.

"I think I have twisted my ankle. I tried to stand but couldn’t."

I didn’t need to hear more. Bending down, I scooped her from the floor and safely cradled her in my arms.

"I got you." I slowly stood up as my hands rested under her knees, and I could feel her body shaking.

She came without complaints. I wanted to see the extent of damage that might have been caused to her ankle, but first, I needed to get her out of the bathroom.

Like one carries their bride, I took her out of the bathroom.

Arata was fully dressed in her night suit, meaning she must have woken up to use the restroom and slipped.

I carried her to the bed. She was trying not to touch me and breathing through the pain. Her hand rested on her belly, and the other dangled down.

Gently, I lowered her onto the bed and straightened her legs. Picking up two pillows, I adjusted them behind her back, making her comfortable. My eyes slithered down to her feet, and her right ankle was swelling up fast. Carefully, I picked up her foot and examined her sprained ankle.

"Sssss!" She hissed in pain when my fingers brushed against her bloated skin.

"What happened?" I asked, trying to keep my emotions in check.

"I went to the bathroom, and suddenly I don’t know how I blacked out for a second." She paused, pushing her hair away from her face and trying not to flinch from the pain. "When darkness lifted, I was falling towards the ground, trying to steady myself so I wouldn’t hit my head. I frantically moved and twisted my foot."

She almost fainted because she hadn’t been eating.

The rage consumed me like a wildfire does to a forest. I had been telling her to eat properly, but she was so hellbent on punishing me that she wasn’t even taking care of her health.

Every part of me wanted to snap at her, but this was not the time and no way it would end up not blowing up in my face.

"You hardly ate dinner, take care of your diet," I quietly said. Placing her foot down and getting up. I needed to call the doctor.

"I don’t get hungry," she stated in a pained voice, closing her eyes and placing her head against the headboard.

"Try it, or you will faint and cause serious damage to yourself." I picked up my phone and called the family doctor.

After making the call, I went inside the bathroom again to fetch the first aid box to apply some pain-relieving balm to her ankle. Seeing her in pain again and again had killed whatever peace was left in my heart.

Chaos only chaos reigned free.

Her eyes popped open as I exited the bathroom carrying the box. Seeing me approach with the medical box, she quickly said.

"I am fine, I am sure it will be better by the morning."

She was trying to act brave, or maybe she didn’t want me to bandage her. Right now, she needed me, she could act mad later.

"You are not. It will be swollen like a balloon by morning, and you won’t be able to travel."

Settling near her feet, I placed the box in my lap and reached for her right leg.

Carefully picking it up as if handling a fragile glass piece, I placed it in my lap and tilted it a notch.

This was going to be painful.

For her and me.
