Chapter 258: Chapter 53 Punishment_2

Facing Grandpa and Grandma’s concern, Shen Chi shook his head and said, "It’s nothing, the sound of firecrackers just kept me from sleeping well."

In his heart, though, he sighed. As an energetic young man, stirred by desire yet forbidden by Wanwan to touch her, he had tossed and turned all night, staring helplessly at his ’little brother’ below. It was no wonder he had no energy now.

Lin Xiaoguai stood nearby, somewhat smug—Shen Chi had promised to listen to her for the whole week!

He hadn’t expected visitors so early in the year, but there was Shen Mincheng, holding a big grass carp.

"Little Niangao, look what Grandpa has brought for you!" As soon as he entered, he greeted Little Niangao with a smile.

Despite infrequent interactions over the past few years, Shen Mincheng was genuinely kind to Little Niangao, sending him things every month—food, clothing, and once even a wind-up tin frog toy that could jump.

As such, Little Niangao was not at all unfamiliar with this grandpa.

"Grandpa, where did this fish come from? Is it still alive?" Little Niangao liked anything alive. This trait was very much like Shen Chi when he was a child, and Shen Mincheng, who had raised Shen Chi, knew exactly how to appeal to his interests.

"Dad." Shen Chi wasn’t surprised by his arrival and simply called out indifferently.

Shen Mincheng looked like he wanted to say something, but despite his mouth moving, he remained silent.

"It’s alive, just pulled out of the river." Shen Mincheng took out a red envelope and handed it to Little Niangao with a beaming smile, "Here, this is a red envelope from Grandpa."

Little Niangao unhesitatingly took it, "Thank you, Grandpa."

"No thanks needed," Shen Mincheng loved it when his grandson was so straightforward with him—it meant he didn’t treat him like an outsider.

"Min Cheng is here?" Luo Yufang and Shen Zhangming’s relationship with their son had improved a lot over the past two years because of Shen Mincheng’s affection for Little Niangao. Of course, they still loathed Wang Zhaodi as much as ever.

"Mom, Dad," Shen Mincheng looked up and said with a smile.

"You’re here just in time; dinner is almost ready. Stay and have some food," Luo Yufang said warmly.

Her son could be flawed, but he was still a part of her, and she could not be truly indifferent. Now, happily getting along because of their great-grandson, she was secretly delighted.

Besides initially greeting him, Lin Xiaoguai had been quiet and returned to the kitchen after picking some onions from the yard.

Despite Shen Mincheng not having harmed her directly, without his indulgence, she wouldn’t have lost Little Niangao in her previous life. In both her past and present lives, she couldn’t see him as an enemy, but neither could she consider him family—even though he was Shen Chi’s acknowledged father.

Shen Chi noticed her reaction and sighed, but said nothing.

He had always been tolerant of Lin Xiaoguai. As long as she cared for him, he didn’t want to force anything else.

He had only forced her once in his life, but after that, he couldn’t bear to ever force her again.

Since they hadn’t expected Shen Mincheng’s visit, the meal was of their usual standard, albeit a bit more lavish for the New Year. It was decent enough to entertain a guest.

The three men had all had drinks, and Lin Xiaoguai and the others were finished eating while the trio was still drinking.

The meal lasted until nearly one o’clock, and then Lin Xiaoguai made them some tea to sober up.

"Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, I have something to tell you," Shen Chi paused, then looked at Shen Xiu, "Xiuxiu, you listen too."

The dishes had been cleared away, and now the table was set with tea. Lin Xiaoguai, holding Little Niangao, sat down quietly, knowing what Shen Chi was about to say.

"I’ve found my biological father in the Capital."

Shen Chi mentioned it casually, but to the others, it was as shocking as a bolt from the blue. Luo Yufang and Shen Zhangming were completely taken aback, but Shen Mincheng’s expression carried a sense of "it’s finally come," as if he had anticipated this news.

And Shen Xiu...

Lin Xiaoguai sighed and comfortingly patted her hand.

Coming back to her senses, Shen Xiu said in disbelief, "Brother, what are you talking about? Biological father? Isn’t Dad right here..."

She looked up at Shen Mincheng and noticed that his expression was not the expected anger or confusion. Her words stopped abruptly as if she understood something. She looked at Shen Chi hesitantly and asked, "So, Brother isn’t my biological brother?"

Without hesitation, Shen Chi replied, "In my heart, you are indeed my sister."

Shen Xiu visibly relaxed. Nearby, Luo Yufang and Shen Zhangming’s expressions also softened. Shen Mincheng, however, asked emotionlessly, "So, what now? Do you plan to acknowledge your lineage?"

Lin Xiaoguai could detect the sadness and anger deep in his eyes, despite his effort to hide it.

"No."

Shen Mincheng was taken aback, "What did you say?"

"My life was saved by you and Mom. No matter what, I acknowledge you. This lifetime, I am your son and will carry on the Shen surname," Shen Chi stated solemnly.

Tears streamed down Shen Mincheng’s face. Luo Yufang frowned, "But what about your biological father? Does he have someone to provide for him?"

"Don’t worry, Grandma, I have an older brother and a sister above me; they don’t lack for a son like me." As for the complications with the Han Family, Shen Chi didn’t plan to worry his grandparents with them.

"What about Little Niangao? Are you planning to let him take their surname?" Shen Mincheng wiped away his tears and looked up to ask.

Shen Chi shook his head, "No, Little Niangao will still have the Shen surname, and his descendants will continue to carry on the Shen family legacy."

Lin Xiaoguai didn’t know how to describe Shen Mincheng upon hearing this. At first, he was confused, seemingly unable to believe Shen Chi’s words. Then, as he comprehended, elation took over, followed by regret, guilt, and pain.

He covered his eyes, and tears slipped through his fingers as he murmured repeatedly, "I was wrong, so wrong, disastrously wrong..." (To be continued.
