My Happy Daily Life After Being Reborn-Chapter 260 - 54 The Woman He Cherished_2
Chapter 260: Chapter 54 The Woman He Cherished_2
Since all the relatives who needed to visit had come by, Shen Chi and Lin Xiaoguai simply stayed at home and didn’t go out, just chatting with grandpa and grandma.
On the sixth day of the new year, when Shen Chi went out to buy alcohol, he ran into Shen Mincheng at the door, holding his luggage.
"Dad?"
His father’s face was reddened by the wind, and he rubbed his hands together, attempting to ingratiate himself, "How about I move in and live with grandpa and grandma?"
"What about Wang Zhaodi and the others?" Shen Chi arched an eyebrow.
"I left the countryside house to them; from now on, we’ll each live our own lives." After a pause, worried that his son would be angry, he explained, "I was actually thinking of divorcing, but in reality, we never registered our marriage, just had a few tables of drinks."
Shen Chi said nothing, and Shen Mincheng, a bit uneasy, said, "If you don’t like it, should I kick them out of the countryside house?"
Shen Chi indeed wasn’t too happy about giving the house that Mom had once lived in to that family, but considering the house had long been changed beyond recognition by Wang Zhaodi, he said, "Forget it, if it’s for them, then it’s for them. But Dad, from now on, don’t give them any more money."
"I know, I know," Shen Mincheng said cheerfully, "I’m saving the money for Little Niangao to spend in the future."
"Grandpa, what good stuff have you brought me this time?" Just then, Little Niangao came out, and his eyes lit up when he saw Shen Mincheng, pouncing on him and asking.
"Let me show you." Seeing his grandson, Shen Mincheng’s smile grew broader, as he opened the snake-skin bag at his feet to reveal a brightly feathered pheasant inside, "Look, isn’t it beautiful? This was caught up in the mountains."
Despite wanting to get along well with his son, the years of estrangement wasn’t something they could bridge overnight, yet Shen Mincheng felt much more at ease with his grandson.
"Did grandpa catch it?" Little Niangao was extremely excited, reaching out his little hand to touch it while asking.
"No, I bought it from someone," said Shen Mincheng, somewhat embarrassed.
"Oh." Little Niangao wasn’t disappointed, instead, he comforted him, "Grandpa, don’t be sad. When Little Niangao grows up, I’ll catch pheasants for you."
"Alright, grandpa will wait for it," Shen Mincheng suddenly didn’t feel embarrassed either and smiled happily.
Shen Chi reached out to pat his son’s head, "Alright, take grandpa inside. Dad will be back soon."
"Chi, where are you going?" Shen Mincheng asked upon hearing this.
"I’m going to buy some alcohol for grandpa." Shen Chi waved his hand and left.
Luo Yufang and Shen Zhangming, upon learning that their son would move in with them, were of course over the moon. Even Shen Xiu, although her face showed nothing, her eyes sparkled with joy.
Lin Xiaoguai bowed her head to touch Little Niangao’s hand, feeling that it wasn’t cold, then satisfied, she kissed him, saying, "Mom made you a little cape; go try it on yourself."
"Really? Just like the one the Great Sage Equalling Heaven wears on TV?" Little Niangao was thrilled.
"Why don’t you see for yourself?"
Little Niangao skillfully opened a sieve and quickly found a small red cape inside. He didn’t need any help, draping it over himself and clumsily tying it in place.
Little Niangao was excited out of his mind, striking one pose after another, boasting, "When I get back, Brother Junzi and Taotao will be so jealous. If they call me ’Your Majesty,’ I’ll consider lending them the cape to wear."
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoguai couldn’t help but laugh, but Little Niangao already bolted into the yard.
"Look at my Somersault Cloud!"
"Monster, where are you running to!"
"Here comes Old Sun!"
The whole family was delighted watching Little Niangao’s performance, with Luo Yufang commenting, "This is still missing a Jingu Bang though."
Hearing this, Little Niangao found it made perfect sense and started looking around to find something that could serve as Jingu Bang.
"Shall grandpa make you a branch?" Shen Mincheng suggested.
"No way, no way. Jingu Bang shines with golden light." Little Niangao was particular; he wouldn’t settle for less.
Little Niangao hopped and skipped around, searching for a "Jingu Bang," while the adults watched the lively scene.
"Dad, can you make me a Jingu Bang?" Eventually, unable to find one, Little Niangao clung to Shen Chi’s leg and asked.
"I can’t," Shen Chi straightforwardly declined.
"But Mom can make capes!" Little Niangao displayed a child’s logic.
Shen Chi frowned and imitated his tone, "But other kids don’t ask their dads to make Jingu Bangs!"
With furrowed brows and a look of grievance, Little Niangao complained, "Dad is mean!"
The adults couldn’t help but laugh.
Until they set off to return to the Capital, Little Niangao still hadn’t found a satisfactory Jingu Bang.
"How come I feel like my son has gotten dumber?" On the train, looking out at the quickly receding scenery, Shen Chi suddenly spoke.
In his memory, his son was always clever and articulate, talking like a little adult, able to express his desires clearly when he was just a wee bit big, a veritable child prodigy. But having attended kindergarten for the past half year, he noticed no improvements; if anything, his son’s speech and actions seemed more childish.
"It’s not that he’s gotten dumber, he’s simply been influenced by other kids, just one of the crowd," Lin Xiaoguai didn’t mind, preferring the current Little Niangao, who blended in with his peers and acted more childishly, over the previously obedient and sensible child who never threw tantrums.
Shen Chi, stroking his chin and looking concerned, said, "I don’t mind him lying low like a cunning rabbit, but it would be bad if he really turns into a rabbit in the end."
"That would be against biological principles," Lin Xiaoguai glanced at him coolly, speaking indifferently.
"Are you still mad?" Shen Chi pulled her into his arms and kissed her earlobe, saying, "I didn’t mean to do it, but who made you ’starve’ me for a week. I’m a man. I’ve been acting like a monk, but facing the woman I love, if I could still hold back like a virtuous man, you’d be living like a widow."
"Nonsense," Lin Xiaoguai turned her head away, but her earlobe secretly turned red under Shen Chi’s gaze.
