Chapter 270: Chapter 5 Satisfaction_2

After spending over a year in Myanmar, he had come to understand the jade trade, but he never tried his hand at it. As someone confident in his abilities, the last thing he wanted was to rely on what people call ’luck.’

"Where do you want him to open the Jade Store then?"

"Of course, in the Capital," Shen Chi answered without hesitation. "Wei Qiang is a bachelor with no parents left and his only sister is just fourteen years old; he has no strings attached — why stay in that small county?"

Lin Xiaoguai thought about it and agreed; however...

"You should ask him before you make a decision."

"Of course."

It took some effort for the two of them to move a box full of items into an empty room.

"Wanwan, look at this gold, its quality is much better than what we have back home." Seeing Lin Xiaoguai’s attention fixated on those pieces of jade, Shen Chi quickly pitched the gold, pulling out a few sets of gold jewelry from a pile of gold bars, "These are the ones I bought, see if you like them."

Lin Xiaoguai looked over them. Each set of gold jewelry was crafted with great precision and didn’t focus on heft like the ones Shen Chi had preferred in the past; instead, they were delicate, beautiful, the color rich and pure, soft, without any of the tacky nouveau riche feel that gold jewelry usually had.

"These are pure gold?" Lin Xiaoguai picked up a ring to try on and found it quite attractive, she asked.

"You noticed," Shen Chi touched his nose, "I went through some connections to get these."

"Don’t buy anymore in the future," Lin Xiaoguai said, seeing his crestfallen expression, and leaned in to plant a kiss on his chin, chuckling, "I really like these, but I already have a lot of gold jewelry. If I still want something new, with these gold bars, I can completely make them myself."

Shen Chi couldn’t help but smile at her words. He had seen the silver bracelets Wanwan had made herself — they were no worse than what you could buy, and although he was doubtful that jewelry could be that easy to make, he subconsciously wanted to believe her.

If something were to go wrong, wasn’t he there to fix it?

It wasn’t long before Shen Chi’s appointment letter arrived. Contrary to Lin Xiaoguai’s expectations, he had been promoted directly to Major General, skipping the rank of senior colonel, and in addition to that, he had been appointed as Division Commander, officially becoming a high-ranking officer.

Yet looking at Shen Chi’s expression, it seemed that he had anticipated such an outcome and calmly changed his shoulder boards.

Turning his head, Shen Chi looked at Lin Xiaoguai with a gentle expression and hooked his lips, "My Wanwan is now the wife of a Head."

Lin Xiaoguai’s face turned beet red from his teasing, and to make matters worse, Shen Yinian chimed in by saying, "Does that mean I’m the son of a high-ranking family now?" Little Niangao grew up in the military compound where kids naturally compared their parents’ ranks, and they were particularly sensitive about military titles.

"That’s right," Shen Chi couldn’t help but chuckle.

With such good news, Shen Chi didn’t even let her cook, taking them straight out to eat.

"Is it okay for us to just leave like this? My sister and the others are probably going to come over to celebrate," Lin Xiaoguai said with a tinge of concern in the car.

"It’s fine; I’ve already spoken to my elder brother and the others. We’ll all go out for dinner tomorrow night," Shen Chi had already planned everything.

As for the others who might come to offer their congratulations upon hearing the news, he hadn’t given them a second thought.

The car eventually arrived at Jinjiayuan, and after Shen Chi parked, they entered the well-known private restaurant in the Capital.

Once they had gotten themselves a private room and were just about to enter, a group of people came up to them. Shen Chi’s expression paused for a moment, and he nodded, "Mr. Su."

"That’s Shen Shang... No, that’s not right. Look at me..." The elderly leader slapped his head and said with a beaming smile, "It should be Major General Shen now, congratulations on your promotion."

"Thank you," Shen Chi extended his hand for a light shake.

Mr. Su’s gaze swept over Lin Xiaoguai and Shen Yinian, "I won’t disturb your family time."

After the two parties departed, Shen Chi, being the junior, stepped aside to let the other party pass first.

Lin Xiaoguai couldn’t help but watch the pampered lady and the dignified young master by Mr. Su’s side. Not long ago, she had seen them at Aunt Yang’s.

The Chairman’s son... seemed to be even more remarkable than she had imagined.

"Wanwan?" Shen Chi called out tentatively upon entering the private room and seeing Lin Xiaoguai’s distracted face.

Lin Xiaoguai snapped back to reality, smiled, and said, "I’m fine."

After a pause, she still couldn’t help but ask, "The person just now..."

"Mr. Su?" Seeing Lin Xiaoguai nod, Shen Chi said indifferently, "I’m not familiar with him; I only met him once at a meeting with the Military Committee Chairman. Su Changxin is the vice-chairman of the standing committee, and he suffered persecution during the Cultural Revolution; he was vindicated in the eighties."

"Is there any talk about the Su Family?" Seeing Shen Chi’s suspicious look, Lin Xiaoguai hurriedly added, "Xiao Li might be dating the Su family’s young master, so that’s why I took notice."

Hearing this, Shen Chi’s expression softened, and after thinking for a while, he said, "Su Changxin himself shouldn’t be a problem; he’s from a humble background and doesn’t really hold class-based viewpoints, but his wife is from a distinguished family and may value the background of a future daughter-in-law."

"I see," Lin Xiaoguai felt it was both unexpected and expected.

Today was supposed to be a day of celebration, and although she was worried about Yang Xiaoli, she did not wish to dampen the mood and thus chose not to bring it up anymore.

The family happily enjoyed their meal, and on leaving Jinjiayuan, Shen Yinian whined about wanting to go to the night market. Lin Xiaoguai gave it some thought and agreed, and Shen Chi naturally had no objections.

This was Lin Xiaoguai’s first time at the Capital’s night market, which was similar to the night markets of Shanghai she remembered from her previous life, only with different kinds of goods for sale.

The quality of the goods at the night market wasn’t particularly high, and Lin Xiaoguai was not impressed; having just had their fill at dinner, they weren’t interested in the snacks either, but Shen Yinian thoroughly enjoyed playing games like marble shooting, goldfish scooping, and dart throwing.

Shen Chi joined the fun as well, and they won a fair amount of trivial items, to the delight of Little Niangao whose face was beaming with happiness the whole time.

Lin Xiaoguai watched them with a smile, occasionally helping them carry their winnings, her expression filled with quiet satisfaction.
