My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 386: Army Preparations (Part 1)
Chapter 386: Army Preparations (Part 1)
The following day, after meeting Thorgest, the emperor’s brother, we received a potion batch from Reinar and Jen and started the treatment of the remaining soldiers.
Thankfully, there weren’t that many of them left, so we were finished by noon after more groups of soldiers had gone out of the village to look for survivors.
Florencia and Luca, the two twins from Vista, had accompanied Melina with the reinforcements, and it seemed to me like they had been practicing their magic since they were pretty helpful around the village.
Still, the main reason they were there was because, as the princes of Vista, they needed to get more experience in battle, and their father told them to support us in the north to improve their battle senses.
I knew both twins well enough to know that they wanted to come here, and honestly, the north was so messed up that we were taking any help we could get.
That same day, after curing the last brainwashed soldier in our village, we had a meeting with all the different group leaders, and we started devising a plan to kill Baelzor.
We didn’t know what would happen to the cursed citizens if we killed the devil, but at the very least, we were sure they wouldn’t die from it.
Thorgest, the emperor’s brother, gave us a clear description of the capital and how its defenses worked.
The city was divided into five different rings, and each ring was separated by tall iron walls, with the center being the area where the Steel Castle was located.
When I asked if the castle was actually made of steel, Thorgest confirmed it, saying that there was no other castle in the world that could compare, and even Jackson and Karla said it was true.
Still, it wasn’t a big deal what the castle was made out of since we could attune our magic to whatever we needed, but a warrior would have trouble with their defenses. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
My plan was to surround the capital with our army and have them advance at the same time from all directions, which would also split the devils’ forces—similar to what we did in Guanghua.
However, the capital of Guanghua was much larger than the Iron Capital, so there was more distance between their troops.
We had a few people who were able to fly, including all of the knights from the 4th order, which I named the "backline group," since our job would be to enter the city by air and open access to the inner rings.
Ideally, Melina and I would fly all the way to the Steel Castle and confront Baelzor as quickly as possible, but we knew that Drakzen was going to be there with all his Accursed Beasts.
Besides, I didn’t think that our army had enough people to fight against theirs, so we had to think of a way that we wouldn’t have our warriors facing them straight on.
Bjorn and Magnus were apprehensive when I told them that we needed to come up with a more stealthy plan, saying that warriors were honorable and always fought face-to-face.
"Hold on—I’m not asking you to assassinate the soldiers when they are sleeping or something..." I said, clarifying my idea.
I was thinking about infiltrating the city and weakening its defenses without them noticing. That way, advancing inside through the rings would be much easier for the warriors.
Thorgest warned us that almost every single citizen was brainwashed, and if anyone saw us, they would alert everyone around them.
It was much easier to infiltrate Guanghua since we just needed to act like we were nobles with our fake documents, but that wouldn’t work here.
Apparently, there were greater demons on the gates for each ring who prevented any citizen from crossing unless they were asked.
There were also two greater demons guarding the main gates to the city, and those were the ones checking if the people going in and out were under the brainwashing curse or not.
Hearing more about their defenses, I was sure that our army wouldn’t be enough to overtake the capital. Still, I didn’t want to ask other countries for help since I thought they already had stuff to deal with.
Nevertheless, Melina didn’t share that same feeling with me, and she used the voice crystals to send messages to all the kings we knew, explaining the situation in the north in detail.
The kings were already aware of what was happening here, but now that we had more information, she decided to spread the truth.
It didn’t matter if everyone knew the truth since Baelzor and Drakzen were the last devils that we needed to kill to get them out of our world completely, and so many countries had suffered under their powers that we knew nobody was conspiring with them.
The following morning, we started receiving reinforcements from all over the world.
The first ones to arrive was a large group of a hundred jungle beastkins, with Gio and Gia being their leaders.
It had been a long time since I saw the two jaguar beastkin twins, who used to guard the entrance to the ancient temple where we found the first relic.
Yuki arrived after with five hundred Kyotoran samurai, and I noticed that their armor had been upgraded since the last time we were there.
Keiko, the princess from Lotus, arrived with five royal guards, who were considered the strongest in her country.
At first, I was dubious since there were only five of them, but after inspecting them, I realized they were stronger than Harvey, who was a knight commander.
It seemed like Keiko’s brother was the one who wanted to come, but her father sent her specifically, which we preferred since we liked Keiko but not her brother.
The new emperor of Guanghua, Renjun, sent five hundred more soldiers, and their leader was Lord Bao, the man who allowed us to hide in their home after curing his wife during our stay in the eastern capital.
The dwarves from Durinhold sent a group of ten dwarves, who asked for a place where they could work as soon as they arrived, as they weren’t warriors but smithies.
The mages from the tower at Balinesia also decided to help. Although they were already helping us in their own way, they still sent one hundred mages to support our army. However, they arrived with a letter from Sage Astra, telling me that I was the one in charge of the mages.
Last but not least, the elf chief, Aiwin, sent a group of fifty elven hunters led by Darfin, the commander we met when we fought Salamandra in the Lunar Forest.
