Chapter 445: A Fearful Presence

After we spent a few hours on the 65th floor looking for the exit, we were quite disappointed when we realized there weren’t any more elevators.

The grass field levels were much easier to traverse, as it was an ample, open space. However, floors 66 to 69 were all heavily dense forests, which took us hours to explore, and we couldn’t skip them with the elevators as we did with the fields.

By the time we were exploring the 67th floor, I was standing atop a tree crown, scanning my surroundings, when I sensed a familiar presence getting closer.

I could tell that the MP I sensed wasn’t from an enemy, so my body didn’t react with hostility. Nevertheless, I was still a bit confused since it felt like the source of the energy was traveling at high speeds toward me.

"Sage Louie?" I pondered aloud.

Not even ten seconds later, I spotted a small white crystal flying out of the entrance to the 67th floor, and as it quickly approached me, I realized it was one of the crystals that Sage Louie used for his broadcast spell.

When the white crystal hovered a little over two meters away from me, it stopped flying all over the place and simply started following me.

Two minutes later, I received a message on the voice crystal explaining that Sage Louie would be broadcasting the war to all of the countries in the world, which was the same thing he did with the war in the Northern Empire.

Honestly, I didn’t mind that idea since I didn’t consider the war with the demons to be a secret. Moreover, it was a good way for Sage Louie to spectate different teams and send help wherever it was needed. novelbuddy.cσ๓

With the white crystal following me from quite a distance, I kept searching for the staircase leading to the 68th floor, but my companions managed to find it before me, so I quickly regrouped with them before advancing.

When we got to the 69th floor, we were all annoyed to see another dense forest before us.

It was already nighttime, so resting would have been our best choice. However, we didn’t want to leave the exploration for the following day, so my team decided to search for the exit as quickly as possible.

Whenever another team stopped their advance to rest, they would send everyone else a message on their crystals, and by the time we found the staircase to the 70th level, all the other groups in the tower were resting.

"Should we go up, or do you guys wanna rest?" I asked my group.

I was still feeling quite energetic since I barely used any of my magic that day, and the only ones in the group who actually needed to sleep every day were Melina, Yoru, Karla, and me.

Seeing that everyone wanted to keep going, I didn’t think there was a point in letting that energy go to waste by going to sleep, so we all decided to keep moving.

After going up a few steps, I felt a chill running down my spine that made me halt for a brief moment.

"You guys felt that?" I asked, turning around to check on the rest of my team and seeing that all of them were frozen in shock.

Even Vespera and Arashi, who didn’t really flinch in the face of powerful enemies, were both standing still with their eyes widened as if they were preparing themselves to attack at any moment.

"Jackson..." I called my friend’s name, who looked up at the rest of the stairs with fear and anger.

"That bastard... He did it," Jackson muttered, so naturally, I had to ask what he meant.

"Ichiro... Does that aura feel like a demon’s?" Jackson answered with another question.

For some reason, I seemed to be the only one in our team who wasn’t as unsettled by the strange aura emanating from the 70th floor. I mean, I could still sense a fearful presence upstairs, but it didn’t compare to Drakzen’s power when we fought at the Northern Empire.

Nevertheless, it did feel ’different’ from the aura that emanated from other demons.

"That... Must be a Primordial..." Jackson muttered.

"Like, the giant one we saw outside the tower?" I continued asking.

"No. That was a ’Primal’ demon. This is a ’Primordial,’" He replied.

Primordial demons were allocated into the same group as the ancient demons. However, compared to the power level of an ancient fiend or harpy, a Primordial demon was as strong as a Demon King—sometimes even stronger.

These demons didn’t have any interest in conquering the lands of hell. In fact, they were known for helping demons who were aiming for the throne.

The Primordial demons didn’t have clear objectives. Most of them simply liked to be entertained, while others enjoyed killing as much as possible.

It didn’t matter if the Demon King asking them for help was weaker than them. If they believed they could get some amusement from the situation, they would agree to the conditions.

"Well—with or without the Primordial there—we still have to keep moving," I said to my team, who were slowly regaining their composure.

The more we went up the stairs, the denser the air. It was almost hard to breathe from the sheer pressure extruding from the demon on the 70th floor.

Even Ovi, who had been sitting on my shoulder all that time, lowered his head in exhaustion, so I gave him a few pats on the head and told him to rest as I kept advancing.

When we finally stepped into the 70th level, we found ourselves in a normal-sized room. It was still a large area, but compared to the previous floors, which were the size of a small town, the 70th floor was the size of a living room.

At the back of the chamber, I spotted a large empty throne that was being illuminated solely by the moonlight that entered from the large window panels behind it, and right as I took another step forward, my whole vision was shrouded by pitch-black darkness.

I couldn’t see anything for a few seconds, almost as if I had gone completely blind. However, I did sense a powerful and foreboding presence not too far from my position, making my body tense up in response.

"Welcome, sages..." A deep, slightly raspy voice echoed in the room, making everyone freeze in shock.
